We both work in tourism marketing. Joona has spent years in destination marketing in Lapland, watching how places sell themselves — and how they could do it better. Alla is an AI engineer, originally from Ukraine, and the one who actually makes the content worth looking at.
We started Hungrytravelfamily as the place where the travel and the craft meet. The name isn’t about food — it’s how we feel about travel. Hungry for the next small village, the next long drive, the next country we haven’t figured out yet.

From Lapland to the world
Joona grew up in South Finland and moved to Rovaniemi in 2022 for a job in the husky-and-aurora industry. Alla moved from Ukraine to Finland to study, fell for the Arctic the first winter, and stayed.
We met in Rovaniemi. The weekend drives started almost immediately — frozen lakes, reindeer farms, sauna cabins a hundred kilometres from anywhere. They turned into ferries across the Baltic, flights into Europe, and one very long one to Singapore.
We’ve visited 21 countries together. Every trip has made us a little slower, a little less opinionated, and a lot more curious about the people who actually live there.

Rovaniemi, Finland
We live just south of the Arctic Circle, in a town of about 65,000 that quietly triples in size every December.
Our winters are dark and very, very quiet. Our summers don’t really have a night. The aurora shows up more often than the weather forecast would like you to believe.
