Activities in Cape Town

Every Winelands bike tour, Hout Bay paddle and Table Mountain hike we would send our own friends on in Cape Town — from Bikes ‘n Wines, Cape Town Kayaks and Hiking Tours Cape Town, three small operators under one roof. We have not done these tours ourselves yet, so every price, start time and inclusion here is the operators’, checked in October 2026.

Good to know

Questions before you book

Honest answers from the operators’ own FAQ pages and terms — nothing we cannot back up.

Mostly not: the three operators meet you at the start point. Bikes ‘n Wines’ Stellenbosch tours start at Skilpadvlei Wine Farm and the Franschhoek tours at Basse Provence Country Estate (half-day tours are self-drive; the full-day luxury and meander tours list transfers as bookable online, subject to availability; the Cape Peninsula road ride includes transfers from central Cape Town). Cape Town Kayaks run from the Karbonkelberg Tourism Adventure Centre in Hout Bay, 20–30 minutes from the city centre. The hikes meet at the trailhead — the Lower Cable Way for Platteklip, the Kirstenbosch entrance for Skeleton Gorge, the Lion’s Head trail start — with optional vehicle transfers on request.

Bike tours: a guided ride, bike and helmet, bottled water and a light snack, and the wine tastings on route (two estates on the half-day tours, three on the meanders, four plus a platter lunch on the luxury e-bike tours); lunch is for your own account on the half-day tours. Kayak tours: instructor, life jacket, a seat in a two-person sit-on-top kayak and a paddle. Hikes: a mountain guide, water and a snack; Platteklip includes a one-way cable-car ticket, India Venster and Kasteelpoort include cable-car tickets, Skeleton Gorge includes Kirstenbosch entry. Every booking page lists inclusions and exclusions before you pay.

Bikes ‘n Wines and Cape Town Kayaks: according to the operators, cancelling more than 72 hours before gives a 90% refund, inside 72 hours 50%, inside 48 hours nothing; if the operator cancels for weather you get 100% (Bikes ‘n Wines) or 95% (Kayaks) back. Hiking Tours Cape Town runs in light rain and will adjust, postpone or cancel in unsafe weather and offer alternatives. Each operator’s terms and conditions are linked from the booking page.

The two family bike tours take all ages, with children’s equipment from 12 months (baby seats and buggies under 6, children’s mountain bikes over 6); every other Bikes ‘n Wines tour is 16+, and e-bikes need riders of at least 155 cm. Kayaking is from age 6 with an adult; you must be able to tread water and you will get a little wet. The hikes are from age 12 (some tour pages show 16+), and the difficulty ratings on the cards are the operators’ own, from 1/5 to 5/5 — Platteklip is steep, Skeleton Gorge is long, Lion’s Head is short with 380 m of climbing.

November to March is summer and the peak — long, hot, windy days and the busiest booking calendars, so book early; Christmas and New Year are the peak of the peak, and Bikes ‘n Wines closes on 25–26 December, 1–2 January and the Easter weekend. April–May and September–October are the mild shoulder months; June–August is winter, with rain fronts but green vineyards and fewer people. All three operators need a minimum of two guests for a departure. Cape Town is on UTC+2 all year — the same hour as Finland in winter — so there is no jet lag for a family. Our bike tour vs wine tram vs driver guide helps you pick a Winelands day.

Same tours, same operators, same booking pages — with 5% off applied automatically through our links. We have not ridden, paddled or hiked with these brands ourselves: every price, start time, age limit and inclusion here is from the operators’ own pages, checked in October 2026. We are a Cape Adventure Brands affiliate and earn a commission on bookings made through our links — the 5% is yours either way. Our Cape Town guides go deeper on each tour.

Your 5% comes off automatically on every link on this page — no code needed. We work with Cape Adventure Brands and may earn a small commission — it does not change your price.
