Do I need a special licence to drive a campervan in the Nordics?
For most campervans and motorhomes under 3.5 tonnes, a standard car licence (category B) is enough. Larger motorhomes can require a C1 licence — the vehicle listing always states it, so check before you book.
How much does a campervan cost to rent in the Nordics?
It varies a lot by season and vehicle. In shoulder season smaller campervans often start around €50 per day, while high-summer family motorhomes cost several times that. Comparing brands on the same dates is exactly why we use a comparison site — the spread for an identical van can be huge.
Can I camp anywhere with a campervan?
Not quite. Norway, Sweden and Finland have generous right-to-roam traditions, but they were written for tents — vehicles must stay on or next to roads and parking areas, and Denmark and Iceland require campsites in most cases. We’ve written honest country-by-country guides below.
When should I book for a summer trip?
Early. July and August fleets in Iceland and Norway genuinely sell out, and prices climb as availability drops — booking 3–6 months ahead is realistic for summer. Off-season you can be far more spontaneous.
