Holiday weeks are when remote lodges fill first, so planning matters more than at any other time. We have not stayed at Casa Cayuco yet; what follows combines the lodge’s published facts with the planning habits we use for our own family trips from Finnish Lapland.

When Easter and spring break fall in 2027

Easter Sunday in 2027 is 28 March, so Holy Week runs through the final week of March. US spring break dates vary by school and university, and many European school holidays also cluster around Easter. Instead of guessing, check your own calendar and then work backwards to the booking page: the lodge has a maximum of 53 guests, so its capacity is not unlimited, even though its eleven accommodations give it more variety than a typical small hotel.

Weather around Easter

According to Casa Cayuco, February to April is the generally drier part of the year, with an average temperature of about 27 °C (82 °F). Rain, when it comes, usually falls at night and clears by late morning. That makes Easter a sensible time for beach and boat days. The caveat is the sea: the lodge says the biggest surf swell runs from November to April, while the calmest swimming and snorkelling water is August to October. The beach at the lodge is described as calm and swimmable year-round, and protected snorkel spots work all year.

Which room for which group

Holiday travel usually means families and friend groups, and the lodge has rooms for most combinations. A quick guide:

Starfish and Cangrejo are new, ready for stays from 15 December 2026, and the photos we have are design renderings. A group of 30 or more can reserve the whole lodge, and groups of 20 or more get discounted per-person rates by contacting the lodge. See our group accommodation guide.

Spring break for older kids, teens and student groups

The lodge does not accept guests under 5, but older kids and teens are well catered for with free kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel gear and a jungle trail from the door. Our Bocas del Toro with teens guide goes into detail. It is not a party destination; Bocas Town, 30 minutes or more by boat, is where the nightlife is. If a quiet beach and stargazing from the dock is not what your group wants, be honest about that before booking.

Activities to line up for a holiday week

Excursions are planned at check-in with the in-house guides, so there is no advance booking, but holiday weeks suit a plan. The lodge’s published prices per person include:

• Isla Zapatillas, half day: $80
• Mangrove snorkelling, half day: $85
• Botanical Chocolate Farm Tour: $70
• Monkey Island, two hours: $70
• Sloth Creek, one hour: $40
• Nidori Beach, full day: $135 (three-person minimum)

The Salt Creek village tour is included. Prices were listed on the lodge’s website in November 2026 and can change.

What the lodge's booking terms mean for a holiday booking

A few terms matter more than usual at Easter. The minimum stay is three nights, check-in is 3:00 pm and check-out is 12:30 pm. A 50% deposit confirms your booking. If you cancel more than 60 days before check-in the deposit is refunded minus a $100 admin fee; 45–60 days means half the deposit is forfeited; inside 45 days it is all forfeited. For a holiday week with flights attached, we would take out travel insurance, as the lodge also advises.

Getting there at a busy time

Fly Panama City (Albrook) to Bocas del Toro, about 50 minutes with Air Panama. The recommended flight 980 lands around 2:00 pm and matches the lodge’s one scheduled daily boat; the return flight 981 leaves around 2:30 pm. A booking timeline for a holiday-week stay

Here is the order we would work in, whether Easter is months away or closer than you think.

1. Fix your dates and group size. Remember the three-night minimum, and that check-in is at 3:00 pm with the boat leaving Bocas Town in the afternoon.
2. Check live availability for your room. Rates are not published, so the booking page is the only reliable source. Our link opens it with the discount code already filled in.
3. Pay the 50% deposit to confirm, by card or bank transfer.
4. Book flights from Panama City to Bocas, ideally the ones that match the lodge’s boat.
5. Add insurance. The lodge strongly recommends it, and our deposit and cancellation notes above show why.
6. Fill in the pre-arrival form the lodge sends, including any dietary needs.

What is included and what to budget extra for

Your stay includes the round-trip boat transfer, all meals with an afternoon snack and morning coffee, the Salt Creek village tour, kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats, and daily housekeeping. Extra costs are staff gratuities (the lodge recommends 12-15% of the stay), drinks, guided excursions, a 10% hotel tax on room charges and a 7% tax on excursions and drinks. Payment on site can be by cash, bank transfer or credit card, in US dollars. Easter and spring break reward early planning more than almost any other period. Decide on your group, pick the room first, then fit flights around the boat. The lodge’s variety, from two-person bungalows to an eight-person villa, makes it unusually good for mixed groups.
