If you are planning a honeymoon, anniversary or simply a quiet week for two in Panama, the beachfront bungalows at Casa Cayuco are the rooms to look at. The facts below come from the lodge’s own pages and from the lodge owner’s confirmation that the new bungalows are ready from mid-December. The Starfish photos are design renderings, not photographs of a finished room, and we have not stayed at the lodge ourselves yet.

Two beachfront bungalows for two

Casa Cayuco Eco-Adventure Lodge sits on the secluded beach of Punta Vieja at the southeast tip of Isla Bastimentos, in the Bocas del Toro archipelago on Panama’s Caribbean coast. The lodge says it is one of the only resorts in the archipelago with direct access to a calm, swimmable beach all year round, and both of these bungalows are on that beach.

The Pelicano has been the lodge’s classic romantic room for some time. The Starfish is one of two new beachfront units built alongside a new guest lounge while the lodge was closed from 1 May to 31 October 2026. The lodge is open again and the new units are ready for stays from 15 December 2026.

Pelicano vs Starfish at a glance

Both follow the Casa Cayuco open-air style: an en-suite open-air bathroom, organic coconut soap and hair care made in Bocas, a high-powered ceiling fan, a memory foam mattress, a mosquito net and high-speed wifi. Rates are not published, so check live prices for your dates.

The Pelicano: thatch, jungle views and a proven favourite

The Pelicano Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama is the one the lodge singles out for honeymooners and couples celebrating something. The photos show a thatched roof, an open-air sink looking into the greenery and a queen bed under a mosquito net. It is a small, characterful room, the kind where you leave the doors open and fall asleep to the sea.

The Starfish: new, with a king bed

The Starfish Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama is a new one-bedroom beachfront bungalow for two, with a king bed. It is part of the lodge’s 2026 expansion, with the new guest lounge and the Cangrejo cabaña. Everything we can show you is a design rendering, so we describe it only as the lodge does, and we would ask the lodge if a specific detail matters to you.

Why choose it? It is the newest room on the beach, with a bigger bed, and for a couple who like fresh and modern over thatched and traditional, that is the draw. Our Starfish guide has more.

Which one suits which couple

• Honeymoon with a romantic, thatched look: Pelicano.
• Bigger bed and the newest room: Starfish.
• Travelling before 15 December 2026: Pelicano, because the Starfish is not ready yet.
• Christmas or New Year at the lodge: either, but book early for peak weeks (the New Year dock dinner, champagne toast and fireworks carry an extra per-person charge).
• You want a sea view from above the canopy instead: consider the Loro Lodge Suite in the main lodge.

What a couple's stay includes

Included: the round-trip scheduled speedboat from Bocas Town, all meals (chef’s choice breakfast, lunch, a three-course dinner and an afternoon snack), morning coffee and tea, sea kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats, a guided tour of Salt Creek village, daily housekeeping and 24/7 staff.

The food is mostly plant-based with fresh fish brought to the dock by cayuco each evening. For a special night you can ask for a private meal on your porch or at the end of the dock. Excursions such as the Zapatillas islands (listed at $80 per person) and mangrove snorkelling ($85) are extra, as are drinks, tips and taxes. The minimum stay is three nights.

Who these bungalows are not for

Two things to be honest about. These are open-air rooms with fans, not air-conditioned ones; only the Estrella De Mar villa has air conditioning. And Casa Cayuco is remote: Bocas Town is a 30–35 minute boat ride away, there is a three-night minimum stay, and the lodge does not accept guests under 5. If you want nightlife every evening, Bocas Town is a better base.

If you can travel before mid-December, or you love a thatched roof, choose the Pelicano. If you are travelling later and want the newest room on the beach with a king bed, choose the Starfish, and ask the lodge about any detail the renderings do not show. Both sit on a calm swimmable beach, and both come with all meals and the boat from Bocas Town, which is why we picked Casa Cayuco as our Panama partner.
