A Valentine’s Dinner Proposal in a Glass Dome Near Rovaniemi: What It Is Like, What It Costs and When to Book
February is one of the most romantic months in Lapland, and a private glass dome in the forest is one of the easiest ways to ask a question without an audience. We plan these proposals through our own company, Rovaniemi Weddings, so here is the honest version: what the evening looks like, who it suits and how early to book.

Yes, you can propose over dinner in a private glass dome near Rovaniemi on or around Valentine’s Day. Our Dinner in the Glass Dome proposal (from €1,450) at Invisible Forest Lodge includes a private three-course dinner with a welcome drink, proposal décor outside the dome or at your table, a bouquet of 30 roses, private transport within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre and a professional photographer. Domes are limited to keep the setting private, so ask early, especially for 14 February itself. We plan it through Rovaniemi Weddings, our own company, and reply within one business day through Contact Rovaniemi Weddings.

Why a Glass Dome Works for Valentine’s Day
A Valentine’s dinner has the same problem in every city: a full restaurant, a table too close to the next one and a question you cannot ask because someone might hear it. A glass dome removes all three. It seats two, it glows in the forest, and in February you are surrounded by snow-heavy trees. It is warm inside, you can see the sky, and the only person who walks in is the waiter you expect.
The second reason is that the dinner is a natural cover story. You do not need an excuse to be somewhere special on Valentine’s Day, and nobody becomes suspicious about a booked dinner. The proposal itself can wait for the moment that feels right: before the first course, with the dessert, or after the coffee. That is the real advantage over a timed outdoor setting.
Finally, February in Lapland is cold but beautiful. Day length is returning, the snow is deep and the northern lights are possible. If you want to know how the whole month looks, our post on the proposal in Rovaniemi in February goes through it.
What the Evening Looks Like
This is how a dome dinner usually unfolds with us. The exact times depend on your date, your transport and the lodge’s schedule, and we confirm everything with you in advance.

- Before you arrive: we prepare the proposal décor. You choose where it waits: outside the dome among the snowy trees, inside on the dinner table, or both (both is an add-on).
- Arrival: a transfer from Rovaniemi is included within 10 km of the city centre. Invisible Forest Lodge is beside the Ounasjoki river, less than ten minutes from town.
- The welcome: a welcome drink and the dome itself, glowing in the forest.
- Dinner: a private three-course meal from fresh local ingredients, served at your pace.
- The question: when it feels right. The photographer is hidden nearby and captures the moment, then the couple photographs.
You choose the moment, and we make sure everything is ready for any of them. If you want to understand the lodge better, read our guide to a forest lodge wedding at Invisible Forest Lodge, which shows the same setting.
What Is Included, and What You Can Add
The dome dinner is one of the more complete options we offer. The from-price of €1,450 includes:
- Organisation, planning and coordination of the proposal
- A private three-course dinner with a welcome drink
- Proposal décor outside the dome or inside at your table (you choose)
- A bouquet of 30 roses
- Private transport within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre
- A professional photographer capturing the moment, followed by couple photos right after the proposal
Add-ons include décor in both places, a bigger bouquet, a videographer and private transport from further than 10 km from Rovaniemi city centre. We would add the second décor spot before the videographer: it makes the walk to the dome part of the surprise.
Compare this with our other winter options in the table below.
| Option | From | Setting | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dinner in the Glass Dome | €1,450 | Private dome, forest | A long, relaxed evening |
| A Promise in the Ice Chapel | €1,800 | Ice Chapel, Sinettä | A short, spectacular moment |
| On the Frozen Lake | €1,400 | Private lake, outdoors | Blue hour and candles |
| A Thousand Petals | €700 | Your own room | A quiet, private surprise |
When to Book for 14 February
Valentine’s Day is a single evening, and it is popular. If you are flexible, 13 or 15 February are calmer, and the dome is just as lovely on a Tuesday as on the 14th. If you want the day itself, we recommend contacting us as early as you can. Our post on how far ahead to book gives the general rule; for Valentine’s week, sooner is better.

Last-minute proposals are taken too if the date is available, so it is never too late to ask, but the dome has limited reservations to keep the setting private. If it is full, we will suggest the closest alternative before you lose the date.

Dinner in the Glass Dome
From €1,450 · year-round (northern lights possible late Aug–Apr). Everything you share stays between us — we never contact your partner.
Fitting It Into a Short Trip
A dome dinner is an evening, not a day, so it fits easily around the rest of your trip. A simple pattern for a three-night stay: arrival day to settle in, a daytime activity on day two (a husky or reindeer experience), the dome dinner on the evening of day two, and a slow third day. If you want a night under the aurora as well, keep that for a different evening; the dome is its own experience.
If you are building the whole weekend around the question, our post on a weekend proposal in Rovaniemi has a plan for two nights.
What to Wear and How to Keep It Secret
The dome is warm, but you will walk through the cold forest to reach it. Wear thermal layers and boots for the walk, then something you like for dinner: you can carry or leave your coat in the dome. Your partner will probably dress up a little because it is Valentine’s Day, which is a gift for the photographs.
For the secret, the cover story is the dinner itself. Book it as a Valentine’s present and let your partner think that is the whole plan. We communicate only with you, and never contact your partner or the venue unless you ask. If your partner suspects, our post on keeping a proposal secret has tips.
Who the Dome Suits, and Who It Does Not
We would rather tell you honestly than sell you the wrong evening. The glass dome is the right choice if your partner enjoys food, conversation and atmosphere, if they would be uncomfortable being the centre of attention in public, and if you would like the question to arrive naturally rather than at a fixed minute. It is also good for couples who are nervous: a long dinner gives you time to settle before you ask.

It is less right if your partner dreams of a big outdoor image — a lake of candles, an ice-carved chapel or a sky full of northern lights. For that, On the Frozen Lake, A Promise in the Ice Chapel or Yes Under the Aurora (from €1,500, aurora season late August to April) give a more dramatic backdrop, and they are shorter. If your partner cannot sit through a three-course dinner or has dietary needs, tell us when you write and we will check with the lodge.
The dome is also a good fit if you are travelling with a particular fear of the cold. You are outside for a few minutes, not for an hour, and everything else is warm and seated. Our post on proposing to a partner who hates the cold explains how we plan around it.
A Valentine’s Week in Rovaniemi Around the Dinner
If you are coming for the whole week of 14 February, the dinner can be the anchor and the rest of the days can be easy. We would keep one evening free before and after, in case of weather, and fill the days with things you enjoy: a husky or reindeer experience, a lakeside sauna, a slow morning. Rovaniemi is compact, the airport is about ten minutes from the centre, and almost everything is within half an hour of your hotel.
Our post on Valentine’s week in Rovaniemi has a full plan for couples, and the proposal can sit comfortably inside it. If you want the dome and the Ice Chapel on separate evenings, that is also possible: some couples choose the dome for the proposal and the chapel as the place to celebrate afterwards, though we would confirm the practical details before you rely on it.
Finally, think about what happens after the yes. A dinner proposal ends with you already seated, warm and with a drink in your hand, which is exactly where you want to be. There is no need to rush to another location. Ask the photographer for the couple photographs while the light of the dome is still on your faces, then go back inside for dessert.
Cloud, Cold and the Plan B
In February there is no rain in Lapland, but there can be cloud and deep cold. The dome is heated and sheltered, so the dinner itself is not affected. If the aurora is hidden, nothing about the evening changes; if it appears, you may see it through the glass. The only outdoor part is the décor in the snow and the walk, which we keep short. We can bring clear umbrellas if it is snowing, and we agree a sheltered alternative in advance if the weather is extreme.
FAQ
How much is a glass dome proposal near Rovaniemi?
Dinner in the Glass Dome starts from €1,450. It includes planning, a private three-course dinner with a welcome drink, proposal décor outside the dome or at your table, a bouquet of 30 roses, private transport within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre and a professional photographer.
Can we book it on 14 February?
It depends on availability. Domes are limited to keep the setting private, so we recommend writing as early as you can. If 14 February is full, 13 or 15 February are lovely alternatives.
Is the dome warm?
Yes, it is a heated, glass-walled dome in the forest. You will walk a short way through the cold to reach it, so dress for winter outside and for a pleasant dinner inside.
Can I choose when to ask?
Yes. You choose the moment: before the first course, with dessert or after coffee. The photographer is nearby and captures it whenever it happens.
Will the northern lights be visible?
They are possible from late August to April, and in February you may see them through the glass. We never promise them; the evening is beautiful without them.
Can the proposal décor be in two places?
Yes, décor outside the dome and inside at the table is an add-on to the base option. We usually suggest it if you want the walk to the dome to be part of the surprise.
Our Honest Final Word
If your partner loves a long dinner and hates a crowd, the glass dome is the right Valentine’s proposal. You get privacy, warmth and a natural moment, and you do not have to time the question to the minute. We know Rovaniemi Weddings is our own business, so we are biased, but we would still choose this over a restaurant table in town.
Tell us your dates through Contact Rovaniemi Weddings and we will check the dome. If it is not the right fit, our other proposals include A Promise in the Ice Chapel and On the Frozen Lake, and our Weddings page shows what comes next.
