How to Save Money on a Lapland Wedding: Ten Honest Ways to Spend Less Without Losing the Magic
A Lapland wedding can cost from €5,000 to €30,000 or more, and a lot of that range is decisions you control. We are Joona & Alla, and Rovaniemi Weddings is our own wedding planning company. These are ten honest ways to bring the cost down, and three places where we would not cut.

The biggest savings on a Lapland wedding come from fewer guests, one venue for everything, a spring or autumn date, a shorter photography plan, rented rather than bought décor, and a smaller planning scope. Costs range from about €5,000 for an intimate elopement to €30,000 or more, with €10,000–€20,000 typical for 20–50 guests. Through our own company, Rovaniemi Weddings, you can book full planning, on-the-day coordination only, or just styling, so you pay only for what you need. Keep a contingency of around 10%. Start With What a Lapland Wedding Costs
Before you save, it helps to know the ranges. An intimate elopement starts around €5,000, a beautifully styled event for 20–50 guests is typically €10,000–€20,000, and a larger celebration can pass €30,000. Within that, the main costs are the venue (a cabin or glass igloo for an intimate day is roughly €500–€1,500, while a hotel or resort event space is €2,000–€8,000), styling (a full package is €1,500–€5,000, with elopement styling from around €800), photography (€1,500–€4,000 for full-day coverage, and videography adds €1,500–€3,500), catering (a sit-down dinner for 20–50 guests is €50–€150 per person) and travel.
These are broad guides, not quotes. Our honest budget guide goes through each line, and Lapland Wedding Cost lists the figures.
Saving 1: Choose a Smaller Guest List
Catering is charged per person, so each guest you remove is one dinner, one flight, one room and one chair off the bill. In Lapland, small is also beautiful. Weddings for 2–30 guests are common, and many memorable ones are for 10–20 people. Our guide to small weddings with one venue and one table shows how a short guest list can feel generous rather than reduced. If you are tempted by a full list, consider holding a party at home afterwards and keeping Lapland for the ceremony.
A practical way to decide is to write the list in three columns: people you cannot imagine the day without, people you would love to have, and people you feel obliged to invite. Lapland is a long way from most homes, so the first column tends to come along happily and the third column tends to understand. Many couples find that the trip itself becomes a gentle filter, and that nobody is offended by a small wedding in a place that is hard to reach.
Saving 2: Use One Venue for Everything
Every move between places costs transport, time and coordination. A single venue that offers the ceremony space, the dinner and the accommodation, such as Silver Birch Resort or Arcticmint Villa, removes much of that. At Silver Birch Resort, for example, venue hire starts from €799 until midnight, an extra hour after midnight from €99, a staff service fee from €219 and a cleaning fee from €119, with a four-course dinner at €60 per guest, a buffet from €43, and a cocktail reception from €28 per guest. These are from-prices, and we confirm current figures with the venue. Our Silver Birch Resort cost guide works through an example.

Some venue packages include catering, accommodation and coordination, which can simplify the budget. Ask what is included before you compare prices, because a higher package that includes dinner, rooms and coordination can come out cheaper than a lower venue fee with everything added separately. Ask also about minimum spends, cleaning and staff fees, and the hours the price covers, since a late finish can add cost. We help couples compare venues like for like, and our venue comparison is a good start.
Saving 3: Pick the Right Season
Winter aurora season has the highest demand, and spring and autumn often offer more competitive pricing. April, with snow and long bright days, is popular but quieter than February; September and early October bring autumn colours. See our month-by-month wedding guide, spring weddings and autumn weddings. Christmas, New Year and Valentine’s Day are the busiest of all, so avoid them if price matters. A shoulder date also tends to leave more choice of venue and supplier.
It is worth saying that cheaper does not mean worse. A spring wedding in April has snow and nearly 20 hours of daylight by late April, and an autumn wedding in September has the colours of the ruska season. Both give you a different Lapland rather than a lesser one, and your guests may enjoy the longer days.
Saving 4: Spend Less on Photography Without Losing the Photographs
Full-day coverage costs €1,500–€4,000, and package ranges for a Lapland wedding photographer run €2,000–€6,000 depending on hours, photographers, travel and adventure sessions. You can save by choosing coverage for the ceremony, portraits and the first hour of the celebration rather than the whole day, skipping the second photographer and leaving out videography, which adds €1,500–€3,500. Light matters more than hours, so ask the photographer to prioritise the best-light window. Our guide to wedding photography in Lapland explains how to decide, and Lapland Wedding Photographer has the detail.

Saving 5: Rent Décor Instead of Buying
Arches, backdrops, napkins, table runners and candles can be rented from our curated décor collection, and the styling can be delivered, set up and taken down by our team. That is often far cheaper than buying and shipping décor to Lapland, and it avoids carrying anything. Our décor rental guide explains the options. We also work with high-quality artificial and preserved flowers, which last and are not affected by cold, so you are not paying for fresh flowers that would freeze.

Saving 6: Book Only the Planning You Need
You do not have to book full planning. Rovaniemi Weddings can be booked as full planning, as on-the-day coordination only, or as styling only, and an elopement tier sits below a full package. If you are comfortable planning most of it yourself, on-the-day coordination keeps the day safe for a fraction of the effort, and our guide to packages compared sets out the tiers. See Lapland Wedding Packages and Lapland Wedding Planner. A planner can also save money in quieter ways: by knowing which suppliers fit a budget, by avoiding double bookings and transport costs, and by keeping a timeline that does not run into expensive extra hours at the venue.
Savings 7 to 10: The Smaller Wins
- Saving 7: Marry at home, celebrate in Lapland. Complete the legal formalities in your own country and hold a symbolic ceremony here. See Getting Married in Finland and our symbolic versus legal guide. The examination of impediments in Finland costs around €60, so the legal step itself is not expensive, but documents and translations add up.
- Saving 8: Book flights early. Return flights from most European cities cost about €150–€500 per person, with direct flights from Helsinki year-round and seasonal ones from London, Paris and others.
- Saving 9: Choose simpler accommodation for guests. Guesthouses cost €80–€150 per night, while glass igloos and resort suites cost €300–€800. Suggest igloos for a night rather than every night.
- Saving 10: Keep a contingency. Around 10% of the budget is not a saving, but it prevents expensive last-minute decisions.
A Worked Example From the Ranges
To show how the numbers add up, here is a simple illustration using only the ranges above. It is arithmetic, not a quote, and it leaves out flights and accommodation, which depend on you.

| Item | Intimate day for two | Day for 20 guests |
|---|---|---|
| Venue | €500–€1,500 (cabin or glass igloo) | €2,000–€8,000 (hotel or resort space) |
| Styling | from around €800 | €1,500–€5,000 |
| Photography | €1,500–€4,000 for a full day; less for part of the day | €1,500–€4,000 |
| Catering | A private dinner, priced with the venue | €1,000–€3,000 at €50–€150 per person |
| Legal examination | around €60 | around €60 |
The point of the table is the difference in shape. For two people, the venue and the styling are small and the photography is the biggest line. For twenty, catering and the venue take over. That is why guest numbers drive the budget more than any other choice, and why a modest increase in guests can move the total more than a better photographer.
Costs also hide in the corners: certified translations and apostilles for your documents, transport between venues, extra hours after midnight, and cleaning or staff fees at some venues. This is exactly what the 10% contingency is for.
Three Places We Would Not Cut, and How to Start
We would not cut warmth: a heated space and warm clothes matter more than any décor. We would not cut the photographer’s best-light window, because photographs are what you keep. And we would not cut the timeline: a coordinator or a clear plan saves money on the day by preventing mistakes.
