Loro Lodge Suite: A Canopy Room with Sea Views in Bocas
Loro sits on the third floor of Casa Cayuco’s main lodge, high in the canopy, with the Caribbean in view and an open-air shower looking at the jungle. This is who it suits, how it differs from the beachfront bungalows, and what to know before you book.

Some travellers want their feet in the sand; others want to wake up level with the treetops. If you are the second kind and travelling as a couple, Loro is the room to look at. We have not stayed at Casa Cayuco yet — we researched it in depth before becoming its partner — so this guide sticks to what the lodge publishes and tells you honestly where Loro fits.
The Loro Lodge Suite is a bocas del toro hotel room with sea views, high in the canopy on the third floor of Casa Cayuco’s main lodge. It sleeps two in one queen bed and has the lodge’s most unusual open-air shower, with a view of the jungle canopy. It is our pick for couples who want views and to stay close to the dining deck. Loro at a glance
Loro is a lodge suite rather than a freestanding bungalow. That means it is inside the main building, where the dining area, the bar, the guest library and the lounge deck are, and you reach it by stairs.

- Type: lodge suite, third floor of the main lodge
- Sleeps: 2 — one queen bed
- Views: the Caribbean Sea and the jungle canopy
- Signature feature: an open-air shower with a view of the canopy, described by the lodge as its most unique
- Cooling: high-powered ceiling fan; no air conditioning
- Extras: memory foam mattress, high thread count sheets, mosquito net, high-speed wifi, organic coconut soap and hair care
The open-air shower: the reason people pick Loro
Every room at Casa Cayuco has an en-suite open-air bathroom, but Loro’s shower is the one the lodge singles out: it looks out across the canopy. You wash with the jungle in front of you, which is either the highlight of the holiday or a reason to pick a different room, depending on your taste. Birds, the rustle of the trees and the weather are all part of it.
Practical points: it is open-air, so your comfort depends on the day and the weather. The lodge asks guests not to use hair dryers, so pack accordingly. Our packing list lists what else to bring.
Life on the third floor: what it feels like
Because Loro is in the main lodge, you are steps from the places where the day happens: the communal tables for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the bar, the lounge sofa on the deck, the guest library and the living room on the water. The afternoon snack is brought to wherever you are, and dinner is a three-course meal built around plant-based dishes and fresh fish brought to the dock by local fishermen.

The trade-off is simple. You are not on the beach in a few strides like in a bungalow, and you will climb stairs, but you gain a canopy-level view and the social heart of the lodge at your door. Couples who like meeting other travellers at the table often prefer this to a more secluded cabin.
Loro vs Pelicano vs Rana vs Starfish
Casa Cayuco has four rooms that suit couples or pairs. Here is how they differ:
| Room | Sleeps | Location | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loro Lodge Suite | 2 | Third floor, main lodge | Canopy and sea views; unique shower |
| Pelicano Beachfront Bungalow | 2 | On the beach, thatched roof | Honeymoons and special occasions |
| Rana Lodge Suite | 3 | Second floor, main lodge, fully screened | A couple or a parent with one child; a fully screened room |
| Starfish Beachfront Bungalow | 2 | Beachfront, new from 15 Dec 2026 | Screened, king bed, deck by the sea |
For a romantic trip, our honeymoon guide compares Pelicano, Loro and Starfish in more depth. For a screened room, see our Rana guide.

What is included in a Loro stay
As with every room, the stay includes the scheduled round-trip speedboat from Bocas Town, all meals plus an afternoon snack, morning coffee and tea, a guided tour of Salt Creek village, use of kayaks, SUP boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats, daily housekeeping and 24/7 staff. Drinks, taxes (10% hotel tax on room charges, 7% on excursions and drinks), gratuities (12–15% suggested) and guided excursions are extra.
Excursions are planned at check-in with the in-house guides. Couples tend to like the half-day Isla Zapatillas trip ($80 per person) and the mangrove snorkelling ($85), with prices as listed by the lodge in November 2026. There is also an in-house massage therapist you can book at check-in. We cover the options in our Isla Zapatillas guide.
Eating, drinking and evenings from Loro
Food is a highlight. The kitchen cooks predominantly plant-based dishes with fresh fish, with coconut milk, nut butters and juices made in-house, and locally sourced ingredients — coconuts from the property, chocolate from Green Acres Chocolate Farm, coffee from Boquete’s highlands. There is a full bar with well and premium liquors, organic and natural wines from Argentina and Chile, and Panamanian beers. Outside alcohol is not allowed.

For a special evening, the lodge arranges a private meal on your porch or at the end of the dock on request, and a large table on the dock is used for dinners under the stars. Rays glide past below. Tell the team when you arrive if you are celebrating something.
Who Loro is not for
We would rather you book the right trip than the wrong one, so here is who Casa Cayuco does not suit:
- Families with children under 5. The lodge does not accept guests under five, because of the remote location and safety.
- Anyone who needs air conditioning in the bedroom. Only the Estrella De Mar villa has it; every other room is open-air with a high-powered fan.
- Travellers who want nightlife. Bocas Town is 30–35 minutes away by boat, and there is one scheduled boat a day.
- Short stays. The minimum is three nights, and honestly four or five is better.
- Anyone who cannot manage stairs. Loro is on the third floor of the main lodge.
Getting to Casa Cayuco
Most guests fly from Panama City (Albrook, PAC) to Bocas del Toro (BOC) in about 50 minutes with Air Panama. The lodge recommends Flight 980, which lands around 2:00 pm, and Flight 981 home, leaving about 2:30 pm, because they match the daily boat: pickup at the Bocas airport at 2:00 pm, departure from the lodge’s dock in Bocas Town at 3:00 pm, and the return from Casa Cayuco around 12:30 pm. The round-trip transfer is included. The speedboat ride takes about 30–35 minutes through the mangrove islands of the Bastimentos National Marine Park. Other times are possible only as a private transfer for a fee, and early pickups are not available. Our full getting-there guide has the overland and Costa Rica options.
How to book Casa Cayuco with our 4% discount
Casa Cayuco does not publish nightly rates, so the booking page is where you see live prices for your dates. This is how to get our 4% off:
- Open our booking link — any button or room name on this page goes to Casa Cayuco’s own Cloudbeds booking engine.
- Check that HungryTravelPanama is in the promo box before you search dates. Our link pre-fills it; if the box is empty, type the code in exactly as written.
- Choose your dates (3 nights minimum) and the Loro Lodge Suite. Loro sleeps two, so search for two adults. Check-in is 3:00 pm and check-out 12:30 pm, and the daily boat from Bocas Town is built around those times.
- Confirm with the 50% deposit (card or bank transfer). Cancelling more than 60 days before check-in refunds the deposit minus a $100 admin fee; 45–60 days forfeits half the deposit; under 45 days forfeits all of it. The lodge strongly recommends travel insurance.
We are Casa Cayuco’s partner and earn a small commission when you book with our code, at no extra cost to you. Because bookings are tracked only by the code, please do not skip step two.

Our Honest Final Word
Loro is a room for couples who want height, light and a view, and who like having the lodge’s dining deck below. It is not the beachfront option, and it has stairs and no air conditioning. But if the idea of showering above the rainforest canopy appeals, we cannot think of another Panama room that offers it. That is a genuine point of difference, and it is why we would put Loro on a couple’s shortlist.
