Romantic Getaway in Panama: Anniversary or Proposal at Casa Cayuco
A dock dinner under the stars, a thatched-roof bungalow, a porch of your own. If you are planning an anniversary or a proposal in Panama, this is how we would use Casa Cayuco’s rooms and spaces, and what we would check first.

A proposal or a big anniversary asks more of a place than a normal holiday does. It needs privacy, a setting with some drama, and people who will help you pull it off without making a fuss. We have not stayed at Casa Cayuco ourselves yet — we researched it in depth before partnering with it — so we cannot tell you about our own proposal there. What we can do is lay out, from the lodge’s own pages, how a romantic stay could work, and where to ask for help.
For a romantic getaway in Panama, Casa Cayuco on Isla Bastimentos offers rooms for two and private dining on request. The lodge can arrange a private meal on your porch or at the end of the dock for special occasions, and its smallest cabin, Pelicano Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama, is described by the lodge as perfect for honeymooners or anyone celebrating. Book through our link and the code HungryTravelPanama gives you 4% off — keep it in the promo box.

Beachfront bungalow · sleeps 2 · 1 queen bed. All meals and the boat transfer from Bocas Town included · 3-night minimum.
What makes a place right for a proposal
We would judge a proposal setting on a short list: a private spot, a good time of day, a quiet environment, a way for someone else to take photos, and staff who can help without spoiling the surprise. Remote island lodges tend to score well on the first three because there are no crowds. Casa Cayuco is on the secluded beach of Punta Vieja on the southeast tip of Isla Bastimentos, between the rainforest and the sea, with a dock where evenings are lit by stars and sting rays glide past.

A caution: the lodge has not published a proposal package, so ask them about your idea directly before you rely on it. The facts we can point to are the private meal on request, the dock, the beach and the staff on site 24/7.
The rooms for two
Casa Cayuco has four rooms that sleep two or are suited to couples:

- Pelicano Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama — the smallest, most unique cabin, with a thatched roof, step-down bathroom and a wraparound porch. The lodge calls it the perfect suite for honeymooners or anyone celebrating a special occasion.
- Loro Lodge Suite4% off · HungryTravelPanama — third floor of the main lodge, with Caribbean views and an open-air shower looking out over the canopy.
- Starfish Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama — new, screened-in, king bed and sea deck, ready from 15 December 2026 (photos are design renderings).
- Rana Lodge Suite4% off · HungryTravelPanama — fully screened, second floor of the main lodge, sleeps three.
Our honeymoon guide compares the first three in detail.
Private dining: porch or dock
On request the lodge arranges a private meal on your porch or at the end of the dock for special occasions. Everyday dinners are three-course meals built from plant-based dishes and fresh fish, with the catch brought to the dock by local fishermen in a cayuco each evening. There is a full bar and a wine list with organic, biodynamic and natural wines from Argentina and Chile. Outside alcohol is not allowed, so do not bring your own champagne; ask the lodge what they can do.

Tell the staff in advance, ideally in the pre-arrival form, what you are planning, and agree on a quiet moment. Ask who will be around and where the best light is at sunset.
A romantic three-night plan
The minimum stay is three nights, which fits a romantic weekend perfectly.
- Arrival day: boat transfer from Bocas Town, check-in at 3:00 pm, a walk along the beach, dinner at the communal table.
- Day two: a morning kayak or SUP, then the half-day Isla Zapatillas trip ($80 per person) with beaches and guided snorkelling. A massage with the in-house therapist in the afternoon.
- Day three: a slow morning, the Salt Creek village tour (included), and your private dinner on the dock.
- Departure: the boat leaves around 12:30 pm.
Prices are as listed by the lodge in November 2026 and may change. A longer stay of four or five nights gives space for the Monkey Island visit ($70) or the mangrove snorkel ($85). Our nights guide helps you decide.

Things that could go wrong (and how to plan around them)
Remote places have rules, and romantic trips depend on weather. Rain in Bocas del Toro usually falls at night and clears by late morning, but December is among the rainiest months, so have a backup plan for the dock dinner. Sea swell is biggest from November to April. The daily boat leaves around 12:30 pm and there is only one scheduled departure, so your proposal should not depend on a late departure. If you are flying in, give a buffer day in Panama City.
And remember the terms: the 50% deposit confirms your booking, and cancellation within 45 days of check-in forfeits the deposit. Take travel insurance, as the lodge recommends.
One more practical point: the dock and the beach are the heart of the setting, so pack a headlamp or flashlight for evening walks, reef-safe sunscreen, natural insect repellent for dusk and dawn, and water shoes. Pack light, because luggage travels by small boat, and remember that the lodge asks guests not to use hair dryers. Our packing guide has the full list.
What the stay includes
Your stay includes the scheduled round-trip speedboat from Bocas Town (about 30–35 minutes), all meals and an afternoon snack, coffee and tea, a guided Salt Creek village tour, and use of kayaks, SUP boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats. Not included: drinks, guided excursions, staff gratuities (12–15% suggested) and taxes (10% hotel tax on room charges; 7% on excursions and drinks). Read our prices and inclusions guide for details.
Who this is not right for
We would rather you book the right trip than the wrong one, so here is who Casa Cayuco does not suit:
- Families with children under 5. The lodge does not accept guests under five, because of the remote location and safety.
- Anyone who needs air conditioning in the bedroom. Only the Estrella De Mar villa has it; every other room is open-air with a high-powered fan.
- Travellers who want nightlife. Bocas Town is 30–35 minutes away by boat, and there is one scheduled boat a day.
- Short stays. The minimum is three nights, and honestly four or five is better.
- Couples who want a big public celebration. This is a quiet, small-scale place with 53 guests at most.
Getting to Casa Cayuco
Most guests fly from Panama City (Albrook, PAC) to Bocas del Toro (BOC) in about 50 minutes with Air Panama. The lodge recommends Flight 980, which lands around 2:00 pm, and Flight 981 home, leaving about 2:30 pm, because they match the daily boat: pickup at the Bocas airport at 2:00 pm, departure from the lodge’s dock in Bocas Town at 3:00 pm, and the return from Casa Cayuco around 12:30 pm. The round-trip transfer is included. The speedboat ride takes about 30–35 minutes through the mangrove islands of the Bastimentos National Marine Park. Other times are possible only as a private transfer for a fee, and early pickups are not available. Our full getting-there guide has the overland and Costa Rica options.
How to book Casa Cayuco with our 4% discount
Casa Cayuco does not publish nightly rates, so the booking page is where you see live prices for your dates. This is how to get our 4% off:
- Open our booking link — any button or room name on this page goes to Casa Cayuco’s own Cloudbeds booking engine.
- Check that HungryTravelPanama is in the promo box before you search dates. Our link pre-fills it; if the box is empty, type the code in exactly as written.
- Choose your dates (3 nights minimum) and your room. Mention your occasion to the lodge once you have booked. Check-in is 3:00 pm and check-out 12:30 pm, and the daily boat from Bocas Town is built around those times.
- Confirm with the 50% deposit (card or bank transfer). Cancelling more than 60 days before check-in refunds the deposit minus a $100 admin fee; 45–60 days forfeits half the deposit; under 45 days forfeits all of it. The lodge strongly recommends travel insurance.
We are Casa Cayuco’s partner and earn a small commission when you book with our code, at no extra cost to you. Because bookings are tracked only by the code, please do not skip step two.

Our Honest Final Word
Casa Cayuco is not a luxury resort with a proposal desk. It is a small, remote eco lodge with a good dock, a calm beach and a team who will, on request, serve you dinner somewhere beautiful. For many couples, that is better: it feels like a real place, not a package. Ask early, keep the plan simple and let the setting do the work.
