A treehouse is the picture many families have in mind when they search for a jungle stay in Panama. At Casa Cayuco that picture is the Mono Panoramic Treetop Cabaña. We have not stayed in it yet — we researched the lodge and partnered with it — so this guide sticks to what the lodge says about the room and tells you what to ask.

Short answer

The Mono Panoramic Treetop Cabaña sleeps six and suits families with older children or friends travelling together: the first floor is open-air with up to four twin beds, the second level is fully screened-in with a king bed, and the whole cabaña sits in the rainforest canopy. It is the lodge’s most private accommodation. What the Mono cabaña is

Casa Cayuco describes Mono as its most private and exclusive accommodation, set in the heart of the jungle. The first floor has a fully open-air floor plan with up to four twin beds and an en-suite bathroom. The second level is fully screened-in with one king bed, an open bathroom and plenty of lounge space. A staircase climbs up from the jungle floor, and the cabaña has a large porch up in the canopy.

As with the rest of the lodge, it has a high-powered ceiling fan, a memory foam mattress, high thread count sheets, a mosquito net, high-speed wifi and organic coconut soap. It is not air-conditioned.

How the sleeping works for six

The lodge lists the room as sleeping six, with one king bed and up to four twin beds. In practice the king bed on the screened-in upper level suits parents or a couple, and the twin beds on the open-air lower floor suit children or friends. That split also helps when sleep schedules differ.

Two practical notes: the lower floor is open-air, so mosquito nets matter, and the upper floor is screened, which suits anyone who wants a barrier from insects. Our guide to screened rooms explains which rooms are screened.

Who Mono is for

Casa Cayuco names families with older kids, friends travelling together and anyone who dreams of a treehouse stay. We would add adventurous teens, two couples who like their own space, and photographers who want canopy views. It is probably not ideal for anyone who finds stairs difficult. The cabaña is reached by a staircase from the jungle, so ask the lodge about mobility needs before you book.

The treehouse experience: wildlife and rainforest

The lodge sits between jungle and sea on Isla Bastimentos, where sloths, white-faced capuchin monkeys, poison dart frogs, caimans and birds live. The lodge mentions geckos, golden silk orb-weaver spiders and bats among the residents (the bats are the resident bug catchers). Mosquitoes and chitras bite at dusk and dawn, so natural repellent is wise.

Casa Cayuco Sendero, a two-hour jungle loop from the lodge, is $25 per person (price as listed in November 2026), and the Sloth Creek boat ride is $40. See our Mono treehouse guide for more about the stay.

How to book Casa Cayuco with our 4% discount

Casa Cayuco’s own site says the best rate is by reserving directly, and that is exactly where our link goes. We are Casa Cayuco’s partner and earn a small commission when you book with our code, at no extra cost to you. Because the discount is tracked by the code alone, please follow these steps in order:

  1. Open our booking link (any of the buttons on this page). It opens Casa Cayuco’s own booking engine.
  2. Check that HungryTravelPanama is showing in the promo box before you search. If the box is empty, type the code in yourself — it gives 4% off.
  3. Choose your dates (minimum three nights; check-in 3:00 pm, check-out 12:30 pm) and pick your room. Live rates are shown there — the lodge does not publish nightly prices elsewhere.
  4. Confirm with the 50% deposit. The balance is paid on site by cash, bank transfer or card.

On cancellations: more than 60 days before check-in the deposit is refunded minus a $100 admin fee, 45–60 days out half of the deposit is forfeited, and under 45 days the deposit is forfeited in full. The lodge strongly recommends travel insurance.

Who Casa Cayuco is not for

We would rather you book the right place than our place. Casa Cayuco is probably not your fit if you are travelling with children under 5 (the lodge does not accept guests under 5 because of the remote location), if you can only stay one or two nights (the minimum is three), if you want air conditioning everywhere (only the Estrella De Mar villa has it; every other room is open-air with a high-powered fan), or if you want nightlife — Bocas Town is a 30–35 minute boat ride away and the lodge’s own boat runs on a schedule.

Our Honest Final Word

If a treehouse is your dream, Mono is the room that delivers it at Casa Cayuco: private, in the canopy and big enough for six. If stairs or open-air sleeping are a concern, a beach bungalow may be easier. Either way, ask the lodge about your specific group.
