Tromsø Northern Lights for Travellers From Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China: December and Chinese New Year 2027 Plan
Chinese New Year falls on 6 February 2027, and December school holidays are close behind. If you are flying to Tromsø from Asia, the flight is long and the winter is cold, so a clear plan helps. Here is how we would build a four-to-five-night trip around the northern lights, with the tours to book first.

This guide is built from our own winters in the Arctic and from the live Legendary Adventure tour pages in Tromsø — prices, pickup times and what is included come straight from the operator, never invented.
For a December or Chinese New Year trip from Asia, plan at least four nights in Tromsø, book the Northern Lights Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for your second night, add one daytime tour and keep a spare evening in case of cloud. Why Tromsø Works for Asian Winter Holidays
For many travellers from Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China, the northern lights are a bucket-list item, and a winter holiday is the natural time to do it. Tromsø is a good base because it is a real town with hotels, restaurants and an airport, and because tours depart daily from the centre.
The December school holidays and the Chinese New Year break in February are both busy, so book flights, hotels and tours early. Legendary Adventure’s tour calendars are live, and popular dates can fill, particularly in holiday weeks. We would book the chase as soon as you know your dates.
How Many Nights to Plan
Because of the long journey, we recommend at least four nights. Arrive, rest on the first evening, chase on the second, and use the third and fourth for daytime tours and a spare chase. The northern lights depend on clear sky, so one attempt is a gamble.

If you can stay five nights, even better. A sample plan looks like this:
- Night 1: Arrive, hotel, easy dinner, early sleep.
- Day 2: Morning rest or the town. Evening: Northern Lights Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 at 19:00 (18:30 from 25 October).
- Day 3: Late start. Afternoon free. Evening: spare chase or dinner.
- Day 4: 10:00 Sommarøy & Kvaløya Scenic Fjord Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 with lunch.
- Day 5: Departure.
Flights and Jet Lag
Flights from Asia to Tromsø normally involve a connection in a European hub such as Oslo or another city, and the total travel time is long. We cannot quote schedules, so check with your airline. The point is that you will arrive tired, and the time difference with Asia is large.
This is why we suggest booking the chase for night two rather than night one. You will be more alert and more able to enjoy the evening. If you are on a very tight schedule, our guide on first night or second night covers the choice in detail.

What to Wear
Tromsø in winter is cold and often windy. Pack thermal base layers, a warm mid-layer, thick socks, gloves and a hat. The chase includes a winter suit, but you still need warm boots and layers. Our what to wear in Tromsø guide covers everything. If you are coming from a warm climate, buy or rent items early rather than leaving it until you arrive.
