Multigenerational Holiday in Panama: One Villa, Three Generations
Grandparents, parents and grandchildren rarely want the same holiday. Here is how a seafront villa with air-conditioned bedrooms and full lodge service can make a multigenerational Panama trip easier.

This guide is built from our own family travels and from Casa Cayuco’s own pages and booking terms — what is included, how to get there and what each room is like come straight from the lodge, never invented.

What multigenerational travel needs
Three generations means different bedtimes, different heat tolerance and different ideas of adventure. We’d build the trip around four things: private bedrooms with bathrooms, a shared living space, meals handled for you and activities that suit both a ten-year-old and a seventy-year-old. Remote lodges can deliver this if the logistics are simple.
The villa: what the lodge says
Estrella De Mar Tropical Beachfront Villa4% off · HungryTravelPanama is a two-storey seafront villa sleeping up to eight: three king beds plus up to two twin beds. Each of the three bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom and a spacious sea-view balcony. It mixes open-air tropical living with fully climate-controlled bedrooms, the only air-conditioned accommodation at the lodge. It also has a living room, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining room and an outdoor lounge, plus the services of the full lodge.

Who sleeps where
| Group | Possible set-up |
|---|---|
| Grandparents + parents + 2 children (6) | Grandparents in one king room, parents in another, children in the third with twins |
| Three couples (6) | One king bedroom each |
| Two couples + 2 children (6) | Couples in kings, children share the twins |
| Eight guests | Use the twin beds in the third bedroom |
Guests must be 5 or older. Check exact bed arrangements with the lodge when booking.
Air conditioning, heat and sleep
Panama’s Caribbean coast averages around 27 °C (82 °F) all year. Every other room at Casa Cayuco is open-air with a high-powered fan, which most guests find comfortable, but older travellers sometimes want climate control for sleeping. That is the villa’s real selling point. During the day, the covered balconies and the lodge’s shaded seating do the rest.

Mobility and access: ask before booking
The lodge sits on a beach with boardwalks and docks, reached by speedboat. Boarding a boat from a dock, steps and uneven ground are part of the experience. If someone in your group has limited mobility, we recommend writing to the lodge before booking to ask about the specific route, boat access and the villa’s location, because we can’t confirm those details from published information.

Days that work for everyone
- Morning: coffee, then a swim or a kayak for the energetic and a book on the balcony for the others
- Late morning: the included Salt Creek tour, about two hours
- Afternoon: snack, then a Sloth Creek trip (1 hour, $40 per person) or a massage with the in-house therapist
- Evening: a long dock table dinner, three courses
For bigger days, Isla Zapatillas ($80) is a half-day boat trip with beach time.

Celebrations and bigger groups
The lodge hosts large family vacations and milestone celebrations. A group of 30 or more can reserve the whole lodge and groups of 20 or more get discounted per-person rates by custom quote. Private meals on a porch or the end of the dock can be arranged on request. Read more in our villa rental guide.
Getting three generations to the lodge
Most guests fly from Panama City (Albrook) to Bocas del Toro with Air Panama in about 50 minutes, then take the lodge’s scheduled boat from Bocas Town. The recommended Flight 980 arrives around 2:00 pm and the captain meets you with a sign. For a slower option, there is an overnight bus to Almirante and a water taxi, though we’d not choose it for older relatives. An overnight in Panama City before the flight helps everyone start rested; Casa Cayuco guests get special rates at American Trade Hotel in Casco Viejo.
Confirm the baggage rules with Air Panama and keep medicines in hand luggage.
How to book Casa Cayuco with our 4% discount
Reserving the villa takes a few steps:
- Open our booking link — any Casa Cayuco4% off · HungryTravelPanama button on this page opens the lodge’s own booking engine.
- Check the code. HungryTravelPanama should already be in the promo box. If you don’t see it, type it in before you search dates — bookings are matched to us only by that code, and it takes 4% off your stay.
- Choose your dates and room. The minimum stay is 3 nights; check-in is 3:00 pm and check-out 12:30 pm. Live rates and availability show for your dates (the lodge does not publish a rate card).
- Confirm with the 50% deposit by card or bank transfer. Cancelling more than 60 days before check-in refunds the deposit minus a $100 admin fee; 45–60 days forfeits half the deposit; under 45 days forfeits it fully. The lodge strongly recommends travel insurance.
Villas book early for holiday weeks. We are Casa Cayuco’s partner and earn a small commission when you book with our code — it costs you nothing extra and saves you 4%. For more planning, see our guide to where to stay in Panama.
The honest limits
No children under 5, three-night minimum, a boat ride to arrive, and nothing to buy on site beyond the lodge’s own offering. If those suit your family, the villa is as close to a family compound on the Caribbean coast as we’ve found. See our guide to where to stay in Panama.
