“Does it have air conditioning?” is one of the questions we get first from friends planning a tropical trip. At Casa Cayuco the honest answer is: only one accommodation does. We think that is worth explaining properly, because it shapes which room you should pick. All details come from the lodge’s pages; we have not stayed there yet.

The short answer, room by room
Casa Cayuco has eleven accommodations; nine are described on its site so far. The villa is the only one with air conditioning. The other eight (including the two new units opening on 15 December 2026) rely on fans and ventilation.

What the villa offers
The Estrella De Mar Tropical Beachfront Villa4% off · HungryTravelPanama is a two-storey seafront house with three bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom and sea-view balcony, a living room, a well-equipped kitchen and a dining room. It blends open-air living with fully air-conditioned bedrooms. It sleeps up to eight (three king beds plus up to two twin beds), and all the services of the full lodge are included: meals, daily housekeeping, the boat transfer. It suits multigenerational families, or two or three couples travelling together. Our multigenerational guide covers it in depth.

How open-air rooms keep you cool
Every other cabin and suite is open-air by design. According to the lodge each has a high-powered ceiling fan, a memory-foam mattress, high-thread-count sheets and a mosquito net. Rooms catch the ocean breeze or canopy air, and the new Starfish bungalow has a sweeping roofline designed to let in light and ocean breeze. Temperatures average about 27 °C (82 °F) all year.

Electricity is solar-powered and runs 24/7, so fans do not stop at night. US-style 110 V outlets; the lodge asks guests not to use hair dryers.
Tips for sleeping well without air-con
- Choose a beachfront room if heat bothers you; sea breeze helps.
- Shower before bed and use light cotton sleepwear.
- Bring a small flashlight so you do not need to switch on lights.
- Keep your mosquito net tucked in properly.
- Drink water through the day and avoid late heavy meals.
- Book at least four nights so your body can adapt.
When heat is a bigger factor
The lodge calls February to April and August to October the generally drier months, with the calmest sea from August to October. Heat itself is steady through the year; humidity can feel higher on windless days, and more rain falls in other months. For heat-sensitive travellers, guests must be 5 or older, and elderly guests and anyone with heat-sensitive health conditions should talk to a doctor and consider the villa. Other comfort questions
Wifi is high-speed in rooms, according to the lodge. Bathrooms are en-suite and open-air, with organic coconut soap and hair care made in Bocas. Daily housekeeping is included. Hot water details are not stated on the lodge’s pages we used, so ask before you book if it matters. Meals are included, with plant-based dishes and fresh fish.
Who should choose the villa, and who should skip Casa Cayuco
Choose the villa if you are a group of five to eight, if you need cool bedrooms, or if you want a kitchen and living room. If you need air conditioning in every room, or do not want to sleep close to nature, Casa Cayuco is not the right place. It is also not for under-fives, nightlife seekers or stays under three nights.

Who we would put in the villa, and why
The villa works best for a group that wants shared space but separate sleeping. Think a grandparent trip with parents and grandchildren, or three couples who know each other well. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and a sea-view balcony, so nobody queues. The kitchen and living room mean you can have a quiet evening in, while the lodge still does the cooking if you prefer. Pricing is not published, so check live rates for your dates and compare the cost per person with booking separate rooms.

If you have only two people, a villa is likely too much; a bungalow with a fan and a view will feel more intimate.
Fan, net and breeze: what a normal night is like
A typical night in an open-air room sounds nothing like a hotel. You hear frogs and insects, wind in the palms and, depending on the room, waves. The ceiling fan keeps air moving, the mosquito net keeps you comfortable, and the open walls mean you wake to birdsong and sunrise. For many guests this is the reason to come; for some it takes a night or two to adjust. If you are unsure, compare with a screened room such as the Rana Lodge Suite, which has no open gaps but is still fan-cooled.

Mosquitoes and chitras are most active at dusk and dawn, so natural repellent helps. The lodge says malaria and Zika are not a concern in its region; check with your doctor.
