Best Family Room at Casa Cayuco: Where a Family of Four Should Sleep
Four people, one remote Caribbean lodge, nine very different rooms. We went through every sleeping arrangement Casa Cayuco publishes and tell you which one we would book for a family of four — and which two we would look at first if the kids are older.

Families of four are the sweet spot at Casa Cayuco, and also the group that gets stuck at the room-picking step, because the lodge has no ‘family room’ category — it has bungalows, a treetop cabaña, lodge suites and a villa, each with its own bed mix. We read each description on the lodge’s own pages so you do not have to, and we have put them side by side from the point of view of two parents and two kids. If you are still deciding whether the lodge is right at all, start with our family hotel guide for Bocas del Toro and come back here.

What 'a family of four' means at Casa Cayuco
Casa Cayuco has eleven accommodations in total, sleeping two to eight guests each, and the lodge describes nine of them on its site. Four of those can sleep four or more people in a straightforward way: Tortuga (sleeps 5), Delfín (sleeps 5), the Mono treetop cabaña (sleeps 6) and the Estrella De Mar villa (sleeps 8), plus the brand-new Cangrejo (sleeps 4). Everything else is built for two or three.
Two rules from the booking terms shape every family plan. Children must be 5 or older — the lodge does not accept guests under 5 because of the remote location — and there is a three-night minimum. Kid-friendly meal options are available on request, and all meals are included, so you are not hunting for restaurants with hungry children at 6 pm.
Our pick: Tortuga Beachfront Bungalow
Tortuga Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama is a spacious, open-air bungalow with an en-suite bathroom and a large covered porch. The lodge’s description talks about watching the waves from the porch and enjoying the cool ocean breezes, and that is the real argument for it: your front door is the beach. The bed set-up is one queen bed plus up to three twin beds, so two parents can have the queen and two children take twin beds with space to spare.

Every unit has a mosquito net, memory foam mattresses, a high-powered ceiling fan and high-speed wifi, and all of that applies here. Because the sides are open to the air, this is a room for families who like the idea of falling asleep to the sea — not for anyone who wants a sealed, air-conditioned box.
The close second: Delfín Beachside Bungalow
Delfín Beachside Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama has the same bed mix — one queen plus up to three twin beds — and the same open-air layout, en-suite bathroom and large covered porch. The difference is the view: the porch looks over both the Caribbean Sea and the jungle garden, rather than sitting right on the sand. If your children are the type to spot a sloth or a poison dart frog before breakfast, the garden side is a fun place to be, and the beach is still a short walk.

We would choose Tortuga if the sea is the main attraction and Delfín if you like the idea of a shadier, greener base. For a family of four the practical experience is very similar.
New for 2026–27: Cangrejo Beachfront Cabaña
If you want separate bedrooms, look at the new Cangrejo Beachfront Cabaña4% off · HungryTravelPanama. It is a fully screened-in, two-bedroom beachfront cabaña: one room has a king bed, the other a king bed that converts into two XL twin beds, plus a full bathroom and a large deck terrace with sea views. It is built for four, which makes it a very neat fit for a family of four with teenagers who want a door to close.

It is new, ready for stays from 15 December 2026, and the photos on the lodge’s site are design renderings, not photographs of finished rooms — we mark them that way too. A brand-new guest lounge opens with it. Our planning rule for new rooms: book early for the Christmas and New Year weeks and check the live calendar for your dates.

Two wildcards: Mono treetop cabaña and the Estrella De Mar villa
The Mono Panoramic Treetop Cabaña4% off · HungryTravelPanama is the room kids talk about for years. The first floor is fully open-air with up to four twin beds and an en-suite bathroom; the second level is fully screened-in with one king bed and lots of lounge space, and a covered porch overlooks the rainforest 40 feet up. A family of four can split across the two levels. The lodge calls it its most private and exclusive accommodation, so it suits families whose children are comfortable with stairs and heights.

The Estrella De Mar Tropical Beachfront Villa4% off · HungryTravelPanama sleeps eight over three en-suite bedrooms, with a kitchen, living room and the only air-conditioned bedrooms at Casa Cayuco. For four people it is generous, and it makes the most sense if you are travelling with another couple or grandparents, or if someone really struggles with heat. See our multigenerational villa guide for that scenario.

What the family stay actually looks like
A stay at Casa Cayuco is built around the outdoors. Sea kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats are included, and the lodge says its beach is calm and swimmable all year. The Salt Creek village tour, with the boat ride through the mangrove channel, is included too, and a jungle trail starts at the lodge. Guided excursions are extra — Sloth Creek is $40 per person for an hour, the Isla Zapatillas half-day is $80 per person, and the Botanical Chocolate Farm Tour is $70 — and you plan them at check-in with the in-house guides, so there is nothing to book in advance (prices as listed by the lodge in November 2026; they may change).

Dinner is a three-course affair at communal tables, often on the dock where stingrays glide past. The cuisine is largely plant-based with fresh local fish, which most children find surprisingly easy once they see the fishermen bring the catch in by dugout canoe. Our Honest Final Word
For two parents and two kids aged five or older, we would book Tortuga Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama for the beach, Delfín if the garden appeals more, and Cangrejo if separate bedrooms matter and you are travelling after 15 December 2026. We have not stayed yet, so this comes from the lodge’s own descriptions and booking terms rather than first-hand experience. It is not for children under 5, for a stay shorter than three nights or for anyone who needs air conditioning everywhere. Read more in our our Panama stays guide.
