A Honeymoon in Rovaniemi in March: Bright Snow, Longer Days and the Last Good Aurora Nights
March is the winter month that is kindest to honeymooners: real snow, more daylight and northern lights still in season, without the hardest cold. We run Rovaniemi Weddings, our own company, and we style honeymoon evenings in Lapland every winter. Here is how to plan four or five days for two in March.

March is a very good month for a honeymoon in Rovaniemi: snow is still deep, days are noticeably longer and brighter, the northern lights are still in season (September to March), and the cold is usually gentler than in January and February. The Ice Chapel and the glass igloos at the Arctic SnowHotel both run to 31 March. We style honeymoon moments such as the room surprise A Thousand Petals (from €700) and Dinner in the Glass Dome (from €1,450), and we can coordinate the move from wedding to honeymoon. Why March Suits a Honeymoon
The first thing couples ask us about a Lapland honeymoon is when to go. January and February give the deepest snow and the coldest nights, down to −30 °C. December is polar-night candlelight. March has a different personality. Our own wedding notes call it the “sweet spot”: snow without the extreme cold, longer days and bright sunshine on snow, and northern lights still possible. For a honeymoon, when you want to be outdoors for hours and in each other’s company more than in layers, that matters.
The days are long enough to do an activity in the morning and still have the afternoon, which makes the trip feel less like survival and more like holiday. Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company and we live here; March is when we personally choose to be outside for a full day. For a different winter month read a honeymoon in Rovaniemi in January.
There is another reason we like March for couples: you arrive in a better state. In midwinter a honeymoon can mean hours of dark and cold before the holiday begins; in March you get daylight on arrival, and the first afternoon can be a walk rather than a retreat. A honeymoon is also the first trip you take as a married couple, and it helps if the weather is on your side.
Four Days in March, Day by Day
A simple plan for a couple, based on how a honeymoon in the Arctic actually feels:

- Day 1, arrival. Rovaniemi Airport is about ten minutes from town. Check in, sleep, eat something warm.
- Day 2, snow and activity. A husky safari, a snowmobile day or a reindeer sleigh ride; see husky and snowmobile day in Rovaniemi. Other honeymoon favourites include ice floating in a dry suit and a lakeside sauna.
- Day 3, the romantic day. A slow morning, a long walk on the snow, and a styled evening: a private dinner, a room surprise or an aurora hunt.
- Day 4, the slow goodbye. A late breakfast, a final walk, and your flight.
If you can, add a fifth day as a buffer for cloud, because aurora nights are never guaranteed.
Where to Stay: Igloos, Cabins and Villas
For a honeymoon, the place you sleep is part of the programme. Options, from our own knowledge of the area: glass igloos and aurora cabins; wilderness cabins with sauna and fireplace; resorts with a spa; and villas. At the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos the glass igloos are open from 1 September to 31 March, so March is the last month to sleep under the sky there. Arcticmint Villa, on Lake Norvajärvi, is about 20 minutes from the city centre and 15 minutes from the airport and Santa Claus Village, and is available all year round. For guidance on cabins we know, see our post on romantic cabins and villas near Rovaniemi.

As a broad guide, glass igloos and resort suites cost €300–€800 per night and guesthouses €80–€150; ask each property directly for current prices.
Honeymoon Moments We Can Style
Honeymoon styling is part of our services: romantic dinners, cabin florals and the transition from wedding to honeymoon. These are the ones couples ask for most:

- A Thousand Petals, from €700. A rose-petal path, 70 roses on the bed, 15 heart balloons and a bottle on ice. It suits an anniversary or a honeymoon evening, whether you are engaged or not. Set-up within 30 km of Rovaniemi city centre is included; a photographer is an add-on.
- Dinner in the Glass Dome, from €1,450. A private three-course dinner in a glass dome at Invisible Forest Lodge, with décor outside or inside, a bouquet of 30 roses, transport within 10 km and a photographer. Aurora season is late August to April.
- Yes Under the Aurora, from €1,500. A private northern lights tour for two with a guide who is also a photographer, flowers and candles, and all transport. A lovely “first night” tradition even when you are already married.
Several of these were designed for proposals, but they work as honeymoon gifts to each other. We will not pretend a honeymoon needs any of them: a cabin, a sauna and each other is already a good trip. They are for the evening you want to remember, and we are glad to style one night rather than the whole stay.
If you are marrying in Lapland and honeymooning straight after, we coordinate the move between the two. That can mean flowers waiting in the cabin when you arrive from the ceremony, a dinner booked for the first night, or simply a quiet plan with no timeline. The wedding is public and busy; the honeymoon should be the opposite.

Comparing the Months
| Month | Snow and cold | Daylight | Aurora | Honeymoon feel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| December | Snow, cold | Polar-night twilight | In season | Candlelit, festive |
| January–February | Deepest snow, down to −30 °C | Returning twilight | In season | Classic deep winter |
| March | Snow, often gentler cold | Longer, brighter days | Still in season (to March) | Active and bright |
Our own site notes the Northern Lights season as September to March, so March is the end of it; April may still show lights but is more about long light and thaw.
Activities That Suit Two People in March
Winter temperatures in our region are −10 to −20 °C for much of the season, and the activities are the classic ones: husky safaris, snowmobiles, ice fishing, reindeer sleigh rides, a lakeside sauna, ice floating in a dry suit, and a visit to Santa Claus Village. For a honeymoon, choose one big activity, one slow day and one styled evening. We do not quote tour prices because they are set by the operators. See budget activities in Rovaniemi that are still magical for ways to enjoy the town without a large spend.
What to Wear and Pack
Even in March, evenings are cold. Thermal layers, warm boots, hat, gloves and a proper outer layer; see what to wear in Lapland in winter. For photographs, bring one outfit you love and a warm wrap. Pack a swimsuit if your cabin has a sauna, and a lighter layer for sunny afternoons, because March sun on snow can feel almost warm.
Honest Caveats
March is the end of the northern lights season in the sense that the nights are getting short and clear skies can still be rare; we recommend at least two evenings for an aurora attempt. Snow conditions vary by year; the frozen lake is in season from December to March, but it depends on ice. The Ice Chapel and the glass igloos close at the end of March. If you hope to combine the honeymoon with the wedding itself, plan the wedding for the days before and keep the honeymoon days free. Finally, do not over-schedule: couples who book an activity every day tend to come home tired, and the evenings that stay in memory are usually the slow ones.
As for budget, we do not know what you will spend on flights or cabins and we do not quote tour prices. What we can say is that a styled room surprise from €700 is one of the lowest-cost ways to turn an ordinary night into a remembered one, and that a photographer added to it keeps the evening afterwards.
How to Plan It With Us, Step by Step
Our honeymoon styling is booked the same way as a proposal.
- Weeks before: tell us the story. How you met, what matters to them, how you want the moment to feel. We suggest the option that fits, or shape a custom one — start at Proposals in Lapland or write to us through Contact Rovaniemi Weddings.
- Within a few days: option and quote. One clear quote with nothing hidden, your date held, and the exact place and timing fine-tuned together.
- The days before: quiet preparation. Flowers, candles, photographer, transport, sparkling wine and the weather plan are all confirmed.
- The hour: the moment. We set up while you are on your way and step out of sight; you walk them in, the yes happens, we capture it and quietly pack down.
We reply within one business day. If you are marrying in Lapland too, we can coordinate the wedding and the honeymoon in one plan.

Our Honest Final Word
March gives honeymooners what January and February sometimes do not: time outdoors without a struggle. It is also the end of the season, so it asks for a little planning and a spare night for cloud. We are biased, because this is our own company and we style these evenings, but we would tell a friend the same. Look at Honeymoon in Lapland, A Thousand Petals and Dinner in the Glass Dome, and write to us through Contact Rovaniemi Weddings.
