Bocas del Toro in April: Weather, Sea and Where to Stay
April sits at the end of Bocas del Toro’s drier stretch, with the winter swell still running and the sea warm. Here is what the lodge says about the weather, what to do, who April suits and which rooms we would book for a stay at Casa Cayuco.

April is a month many travellers overlook for Panama’s Caribbean coast, because most guides stop at the ‘dry season’ label and move on. We looked at what Casa Cayuco’s own FAQ says month by month, and April turns out to be a good compromise: still among the drier months, with swell for surfers and a warm sea. We have not stayed in April ourselves, so this is the lodge’s data and our planning view, not a weather report. Our month-by-month guide to Bocas del Toro covers the whole year.
Bocas del Toro in April is warm and generally on the drier side, with an average of about 27 °C (82 °F) and the winter swell still running until the end of the month, according to Casa Cayuco. It suits families with Easter or school holidays, beach lovers and confident surfers. What the lodge says about April weather
Casa Cayuco’s FAQ says Bocas del Toro is warm all year, with an average of about 27 °C (82 °F). February to April are listed among the generally drier months, with February and March the driest. That makes April the end of the dry stretch rather than its peak: expect plenty of sun, but tropical showers are still possible. Rain usually falls at night and clears by late morning, and a forecast app that shows thunderstorms every day is typical tropical unpredictability.

Panama also sits outside the hurricane belt, which helps with planning. For a fuller picture of the neighbouring months, see our March guide.
Sea, surf and snorkelling in April
The lodge says the biggest surf swell runs from November to April, so April still counts, and that the calmest seas for swimming and snorkelling are August to October. The beach at Casa Cayuco is described as calm and swimmable all year, and protected snorkel spots work all year. For surfers, the lodge’s surfing excursion visits less-known breaks in the marine park: a half day for $75 per person, two-person minimum, for strong swimmers and confident surfers only (it is not a surf school; prices as listed in November 2026). Nidori Beach is a full-day, $135 trip with surf for all levels, three-person minimum. Our guide to surfing Bastimentos has more.

Who April suits
April works for families who want a post-winter Caribbean break, for couples who like warm sea and low drama, for snorkellers, and for surfers who still want swell. Easter can fall in March or April, depending on the year, and brings school holidays; read our Easter and spring break guide for 2027. It suits anyone who wants dry-ish weather without booking in the peak New Year week.
Things to do from the lodge in April
Sea kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats are included, as is the Salt Creek village tour. Excursions are planned at check-in with the in-house guides: Isla Zapatillas ($80, half day), mangrove snorkelling ($85), the Botanical Chocolate Farm Tour ($70), Sloth Creek ($40), Monkey Island ($70) and trail hikes such as the Casa Cayuco Sendero ($25). You do not need to book ahead; that is the lodge’s advice, though in a busy week it makes sense to confirm your favourites on arrival day.
