Two-Bedroom Beachfront Cabaña in Bocas del Toro: Meet Cangrejo
Cangrejo is Casa Cayuco’s new two-bedroom beachfront cabaña, fully screened and ready for stays from 15 December 2026. It is the room we would look at first for a family of four who want two bedrooms and the beach.

Families of four are the hardest group to place in a remote lodge. One room with four beds can feel tight; a big villa can be more than you need. Casa Cayuco’s new Cangrejo cabaña is built for exactly this gap. It is brand new, so there are no guest stories yet — and we have not stayed at the lodge ourselves, only researched it in depth. What follows is based on the lodge’s own description, and the photos on this page are design renderings, not finished-room photographs.
If you are looking for a two bedroom cabin in Bocas del Toro on the beach, the Cangrejo Beachfront Cabaña at Casa Cayuco is the one to check. It sleeps four in two bedrooms (two king beds, one of which converts into two XL twins), is fully screened-in and has a large deck terrace by the sea. It is ready for stays from 15 December 2026. New two-bedroom beachfront cabaña · sleeps 4 · 2 king beds (one converts to two XL twin beds). All meals and the boat transfer from Bocas Town included · 3-night minimum.
What Cangrejo is
Cangrejo is named for the mangrove crab and inspired by its symmetry. The lodge describes it as a spacious, fully screened-in, two-bedroom beachfront cabaña with a full bathroom and a large deck terrace by the sea.

- Sleeps: 4
- Bedrooms: two. One has a king bed; the other has a king bed that converts into two XL twin beds
- Screened: fully screened-in, which makes it the room for travellers who want to keep insects out
- Outside: a large deck terrace by the sea
- Opening: ready for stays from 15 December 2026
Casa Cayuco also expects a new guest lounge to be ready, and a second new unit, the one-bedroom Starfish bungalow. We cover everything new in our new bungalows guide.
Why two bedrooms change a family trip
On paper, sleeping four in one open room is fine. In practice, bedtimes differ. Kids go to bed at eight; parents want to sit on the porch with a drink. Teens want to sleep late; parents want to be up for the sunrise. Two bedrooms mean a door between you and the people you love, which makes a week much calmer.
The convertible bed is a clever detail for families. One room can be a king for the parents, the other can be a king for a second couple or two XL twins for two children or two friends. That makes Cangrejo a good fit for two couples travelling together, for parents with two kids aged 5 and up, or for parents with two teenagers. Our guide to Bocas del Toro with teens has more on that age group.
Screened-in living on the beach
Most Casa Cayuco rooms are open-air. The screened rooms are Rana, the new Starfish and Cangrejo, and the upper level of Mono. For some people that is the single most important feature. It keeps flying insects out, particularly around dusk and dawn, when mosquitoes and chitras are most active in the tropics, while still letting the breeze through.
It does not mean air conditioning, which only the Estrella De Mar villa has. Expect a fan, a breeze, a mosquito net and a space that is open to the sound of the sea. We explain the difference in our guide to screened rooms in Bocas del Toro.
The beach, the water and the day around it
The cabaña sits on the secluded beach of Punta Vieja. Casa Cayuco says it is one of the only resorts in the archipelago with direct access to a calm, swimmable beach all year round, and it has kayaks, SUP boards and snorkel gear free for guests. The Zapatillas Islands are ten minutes away by boat and the Ngäbe-Buglé village of Salt Creek is five minutes by boat.

Included in every stay are all meals and an afternoon snack, a guided tour of Salt Creek village and the round-trip boat from Bocas Town. Guided excursions are extra and planned at check-in: for instance, the 1-hour Sloth Creek boat trip ($40 per person) is good for younger children, and the Casa Cayuco Sendero jungle loop ($25) takes two hours. Those are the lodge’s November 2026 prices and may change.

Planning a Christmas or New Year stay
The cabaña opens on 15 December 2026, just before the holiday period. If you want Christmas or New Year in Panama, book early, because the lodge has only 53 guests in total. On New Year’s Eve the lodge serves dinner on the dock with a champagne toast and fireworks; there is an extra per-person charge for 31 December, included in that rate. Read our December in Bocas del Toro guide for details.
Remember that November to January is generally the rainier season in Bocas del Toro, though rain usually falls at night and clears by late morning, and the average temperature stays near 27 °C (82 °F). The biggest surf swell runs November to April.
Who Cangrejo is not for
We would rather you book the right trip than the wrong one, so here is who Casa Cayuco does not suit:
- Families with children under 5. The lodge does not accept guests under five, because of the remote location and safety.
- Anyone who needs air conditioning in the bedroom. Only the Estrella De Mar villa has it; every other room is open-air with a high-powered fan.
- Travellers who want nightlife. Bocas Town is 30–35 minutes away by boat, and there is one scheduled boat a day.
- Short stays. The minimum is three nights, and honestly four or five is better.
- Anyone who wants to see the finished room in guest photos first. The cabaña is new, and what we show are design renderings.
Getting to Casa Cayuco
Most guests fly from Panama City (Albrook, PAC) to Bocas del Toro (BOC) in about 50 minutes with Air Panama. The lodge recommends Flight 980, which lands around 2:00 pm, and Flight 981 home, leaving about 2:30 pm, because they match the daily boat: pickup at the Bocas airport at 2:00 pm, departure from the lodge’s dock in Bocas Town at 3:00 pm, and the return from Casa Cayuco around 12:30 pm. The round-trip transfer is included. The speedboat ride takes about 30–35 minutes through the mangrove islands of the Bastimentos National Marine Park. Other times are possible only as a private transfer for a fee, and early pickups are not available. Our full getting-there guide has the overland and Costa Rica options.

Our Honest Final Word
Cangrejo fills a real gap: two bedrooms on a calm beach, fully screened, for a family of four or two couples. It is also new, so we cannot tell you what guests think, and we ask you to treat the photos as renderings. If you want something proven, Tortuga and Delfín are the established family bungalows. If you want a bedroom door and a deck by the sea, Cangrejo is the room we would watch.
