When northern Europe turns dark and grey in November, Florida turns into one of the best RV destinations in the world. Warm, dry days, palm-lined state parks, the Keys at the end of a long causeway, and Gulf beaches that really do look like the postcards. If you are searching for RV rental in Orlando, you are probably thinking about winter sun or a family holiday that combines theme parks with a road trip.

As a Finnish couple writing from Rovaniemi, where the sun is about to disappear for a while, we understand the appeal. This is a researched guide rather than a diary of our own Florida RV trip. The prices and seasonal notes come from the Orlando RV rental page on CampervanPlanet, which we checked in November 2026.

The big message is about timing. Florida’s best season is also its busiest, and the best campsites are booked many months ahead, so planning now for winter 2027 is not early, it is normal.

Short Answer

Florida’s RV high season runs November to April, with typical rental rates of about $165 to $295 a day at the peak, $115 to $180 in spring (best value), and $89 to $140 in summer. State park campgrounds such as Bahia Honda, Long Key and Fort De Soto book out six to eleven months ahead, and hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November.

Why November to April is Florida’s RV season

The page describes November to April as the snowbird high season: temperatures of roughly 18 to 28°C, dry air, low humidity and peak demand. The Keys, the Everglades and the Gulf Coast are at their best, and campgrounds in state parks, such as Bahia Honda, Long Key and Fort De Soto, book out six to eleven months ahead.

That has two consequences. First, rental rates are at their highest, with the page quoting $165 to $295 a day. Second, the right campsite matters more than the right vehicle. If you want a waterfront pitch in the Keys in February, reserve it as early as the booking window opens, and then find your RV.

If you book through our links, our reader code HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY20 takes €20 off the booking at checkout. For a fixed amount, it will not move the needle against a $200-a-day rate, but it covers a few nights of campground fees.

What RV rental in Orlando costs by season

  • November to April (snowbird high season): about $165 to $295 a day. Dry, comfortable weather and peak demand.
  • March to May (spring shoulder): about $115 to $180 a day, the page’s best value. The Atlantic Coast drives to Daytona, St. Augustine and Amelia Island are at their best, and the Gulf water is warming. Avoid mid-March to early April if you want to skip the Spring Break crowds.
  • June to August (summer): about $89 to $140 a day, the budget option. Hot, humid, with a short thunderstorm most afternoons. Mosquitoes are heavy in the Everglades, so bring strong repellent.
  • June to November (hurricane season): variable at roughly $95 to $175 a day, with the most activity from August to early October.

Our reading: if you can go in March, April or May, you get most of the weather for much less money. If you have to travel in December, February or at Christmas, book as early as you can and accept the premium.

Hurricane season, in plain language

The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from 1 June to 30 November, with most activity in August, September and early October. For an RV renter, the practical points are these. Rental companies may recall RVs if a named storm threatens the state, so always book with free cancellation where you can. Keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center forecasts, and install an emergency alert app. And build flexibility into any Keys or coastal itinerary, because evacuation orders are taken seriously.

None of this means you cannot travel in autumn. It means you should buy flexibility into the booking, avoid tight connections, and know what the policies say about cancellations and changes before you pay.

November is an interesting month because the season is ending and the winter high season is beginning. Prices are rising, the weather is improving, and the risk of storms is lower than in September.

Route one: the Florida Keys and the Everglades

The classic Florida RV route runs south from Orlando through the peninsula to Miami, then along the Overseas Highway to Key West. It is a long drive, and the Keys are a place to slow down, with state parks such as Bahia Honda and Long Key as highlights. The Everglades are on the way, with boardwalks, wildlife and airboat operators.

Allow at least a week for the whole route, and more if you want to snorkel or kayak. In the Keys, large RVs can be hard to park in the towns, so plan to stay in a campground and use bikes or a taxi. Campgrounds fill early in winter, which is why the booking window matters so much.

Mosquitoes are part of the Everglades, particularly in summer. In winter, the dry season concentrates wildlife around water, and the weather is far kinder to visitors. Bring repellent in any case.

Routes two and three: the Gulf Coast and the Atlantic

On the Gulf side, a route west from Orlando to the coast around Fort De Soto and St. Petersburg, then south or north along the sand, offers beaches with warm, calm water, sunsets and a gentler pace than the Keys. State parks here are popular, so book early, and consider midweek stays.

On the Atlantic side, the spring route north from Orlando to Daytona, St. Augustine and Amelia Island is a fine way to combine history, beaches and wildlife on the Space Coast. St. Augustine is among the oldest European-founded towns in the country, and it is compact and walkable once you have parked.

Choosing the right RV for Florida

For a couple, a campervan or a small Class C is enough, and both are easier to park at beaches, in towns and in state parks. For a family, a Class C gives you a bathroom and more space, which is a real help in humid weather. We explain the differences in campervan vs motorhome vs RV.

Air-conditioning is a must in Florida, and many RVs have a roof unit plus a generator. Ask how generator hours are charged, because they can add up. Also ask about mileage allowances, as Florida’s distances are long, and about pet policies if you are travelling with an animal.

Pick up near Orlando International Airport, stock up at a supermarket on day one, and keep a good supply of water and insect repellent. A cooler for the beach is more useful than it sounds.

Our verdict on Orlando RV rental

Florida is a genuinely good RV destination for winter sun, as long as you accept the early-booking rule. Reserve campsites first, pick the smallest vehicle that works for you, and consider March to May for the best value. In hurricane season, buy flexibility.
