What You Get on the Sommarøy & Kvaløya Tour: Lunch, Transport, Guide and the Details Nobody Lists
NOK 2,100 per person sounds like a lot until you list what it replaces. Here is everything the Sommarøy and Kvaløya fjord tour includes, the lunch question, and what you still need to bring or pay for yourself.

When we help friends plan a Tromsø trip, the first thing they ask about the fjord day is what is actually included. Is lunch real or a snack? Do we need a car? Is the guide just a driver? The answers are on the operator’s tour page, but they are scattered. This is the whole list in one place.
The Sommarøy & Kvaløya Scenic Fjord Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 costs NOK 2,100 per person and includes a local expert guide, transport in a premium Mercedes-Benz vehicle and a local lunch. It lasts 5–6 hours, picks up at 10:00 outside Clarion Hotel The Edge, runs in groups of 2–8 and is recommended from age 7. The Official Inclusions, Item by Item
Legendary Adventure lists three inclusions for the Sommarøy & Kvaløya Scenic Fjord Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5:
- A local expert guide. The guide drives, explains the landscape and stops where the views are best.
- Transport in a premium Mercedes-Benz vehicle. You are picked up and dropped off in town.
- A local lunch. A proper meal during the day, not a packed sandwich.
Everything else, from souvenirs to extra drinks, is yours to pay for. That sounds simple, and it is. There are no hidden activity fees to add on top of the NOK 2,100, as far as the tour page shows.
The Lunch: What We Know and What We Do Not
The operator’s description says that at midday the group stops at the Sommarøy Arctic Hotel, a seaside location, for a high-quality Arctic lunch with fresh local ingredients. It also says that vegan and vegetarian options are available. That is useful for mixed groups.

What we do not know is the menu on a given day, how the portions look, or how well other dietary needs such as allergies are handled. If you have specific requirements, write to Legendary Adventure before you book and ask. We are not the operator, we have not eaten the lunch ourselves, and we will not describe dishes we have not seen.
Transport: Why the Vehicle Matters in Winter
You travel in a premium Mercedes-Benz vehicle with a small group of 2–8 guests. In winter that matters for three reasons: the vehicle is warm, the driver is local and used to snow and ice, and you can look out of the window instead of at the road. The roads on Kvaløya are narrow and winding, and daylight in the polar-night months is limited. We do not recommend driving them yourself in winter unless you have real packed-snow experience.
Pickup is outside Clarion Hotel The Edge, where you look for a black Mercedes. The private version of the tour lets you choose your pickup location at checkout.
The small group size also changes the experience in a way that is easy to underestimate. With a maximum of eight guests, every person can see out of a window, ask the guide a question and get out at a stop without a queue. A big coach cannot do that, and a self-drive trip cannot give you the commentary. For many travellers that is the real value of the NOK 2,100.
The Guide: More Than a Driver
The tour description says that the guide shares stories about local fishing traditions, island life in remote communities, Norwegian coastal culture and the history and folklore of the region. They also watch for wildlife: reindeer by the road, moose in the forest, sea eagles over the fjords, cormorants and guillemots on the cliffs and, in migration periods, orcas and humpback whales offshore. Sightings are never promised.
The guide also decides where to stop. The operator describes several scenic photo stops along the way, so you are not locked into one viewpoint.

To avoid surprises, here is what you should plan to cover yourself:

- Warm winter clothing and boots (no winter suit is listed for this tour, unlike the northern lights chase)
- Hotel pickup: the shared tour starts at Clarion Hotel The Edge
- Extra drinks, snacks and souvenirs
- Travel insurance
- Tips, which are optional
Because no winter suit is listed on this tour, we recommend that you bring proper layers. Wear a thermal base layer, a fleece, a windproof shell, a warm hat and gloves. The beach and fjord stops can be windy.
Is NOK 2,100 Good Value? A Simple Test
Add up what you would pay for the same day on your own. A rental car for a day in Tromsø in winter, fuel, a lunch at a restaurant and the time to plan routes and stops all cost money, and a guide who knows the coast is hard to replace. For a couple the tour costs NOK 4,200, and for a family of four NOK 8,400, before the 5% reader discount.
The honest caveat is that value depends on what you want from the day. If you do not enjoy long scenic drives, or you would rather spend a day in the city, the fjord tour is not for you. If you are travelling in a group of four or more, a private vehicle may work out close to the same cost per person while giving you much more flexibility. Work out the per-person figure for your own group before you decide, and remember that the discount applies to the total.
Families with younger children, or groups who want their own pace, should compare it with the Private Sommarøy & Kvaløya Scenic Fjord Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 at NOK 15,000 per group. If you only have a half day, the Ersfjord & Grøtfjord Scenic Fjord Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is NOK 1,500 per person for 3–4 hours. The full picture is in our full guide to Tromsø activities.
Practical Details: Time, Age and Cancellation
The tour runs year round. Pickup is at 10:00, and it takes 5–6 hours including transfer time. It is recommended for ages 7 and up, in groups of 2–8, with larger groups on request. Shared tours refund in full when you cancel more than 48 hours before the start and charge 100% inside 48 hours.
If you are in Tromsø now and want to go tomorrow, check the live calendar. Tours depart with limited seats, and holiday periods fill up first.
A Day on the Tour, Hour by Hour
The operator does not publish a minute-by-minute timetable, because the guide adapts the day to weather and light. Based on the tour description and the listed times, this is the shape of the day, and you should treat it as a guide rather than a promise.
- 10:00: pickup outside Clarion Hotel The Edge. Meet the guide and the group of up to eight guests.
- Late morning: the drive to Kvaløya, with scenic photo stops at fjords and mountains. This is the best time for photographs in winter because the low light is soft.
- Midday: the stop at Sommarøy, with its beaches and a lunch at the Sommarøy Arctic Hotel, according to the tour description.
- Early afternoon: time on the beach and the coast, wildlife watching on the way, stories from the guide about island life and local folklore.
- Mid-afternoon: the drive back to Tromsø, with more stops if the light is special. The tour is listed at 5–6 hours including transfer time, so you are normally back in town by mid-afternoon in winter.
In winter, daylight is short, so the day is built around the light you have. In the polar-night months, the best colours often arrive around midday. In spring and summer, you have far more time and a much longer evening to enjoy afterwards.
Because you are back in the afternoon, the tour pairs well with a northern lights night that evening if you are not too tired, though we usually suggest a rest first. If you want to see more of what to do in Tromsø, read our full guide to Tromsø activities.
