Tromsø sits on the coast, and coastal cloud is common. But the landscape inland changes the weather within a couple of hours: the Lyngen Alps act as a barrier, and the drier air toward the Finnish and Swedish border often clears. The guides study satellite cloud data and local forecasts through the afternoon and choose the route that evening.
