A Full Week in Rovaniemi in February 2027: Our 7-Day Activity Plan, With Rest Days Built In
Seven February days, seven very different Lapland experiences, two proper rest days and two aurora evenings placed early so a cloudy night never ruins the week.

A week in Lapland is a luxury most visitors never get, and February is, in our opinion, the best month to spend it. The deep darkness of December has lifted, the days are visibly longer every week, there is usually plenty of snow, and the nights are still long and dark enough for the Northern Lights. The catch with a full week is the opposite of a short trip: people overbook it, line up seven big tours in seven days and fly home more tired than they arrived.
We live here, and in February we pace ourselves. Joona, a Finn who has worked in Lapland tourism for years, plans around the weather; Alla, Ukrainian and an AI engineer by trade, plans around energy levels and always leaves slack. This is the seven-day February 2027 plan we would build for friends: StayLapland activities you can book together, two real rest days, and aurora evenings placed where they do the most good.
For a week in Rovaniemi in February 2027, start with the Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Tour by Bus5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 on night one (from €109, about 5 hours, refund if no aurora photos are captured), add the Nulkki husky tour, a Wilderness Snowmobile Safari, a Korouoma frozen waterfalls hike, a reindeer morning, a campfire aurora evening and a private sauna with ice swimming, and keep days three and six as rest days. The full plan costs from €1,093 per adult, and our 5% reader discount works on every booking.

Why February, and how we paced the week
February sits in a sweet spot. You get real daylight for daytime tours, which makes husky and snowmobile days far more scenic than in December, and you still have long, dark evenings for the aurora. It is also when many visitors have school holidays, so popular dates can go quickly; our February school holiday guide covers that week specifically.
For a full week, we pace the plan with four simple rules:
- Aurora on night one, a second aurora evening on night three. That leaves four more evenings in the week to try again if the sky is grey.
- Never two big tours on the same day. One main activity per day, plus at most one evening tour.
- Two genuine rest days. Day three and day six. You will be grateful.
- Hardest day in the middle. The snowmobile safari and the frozen waterfalls hike come on days four and five, when you are used to the cold but not yet tired.
The anchor of the whole week is the Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Tour by Bus5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 on your first night. Everything else is placed around it.
Days 1 and 2: aurora first, then huskies
Day 1: arrival and the aurora hunt
Do not book a daytime tour on arrival day; winter flights can be delayed, and you need time to check in and eat. In the evening, join the Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Tour by Bus5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €109 per adult, about 5 hours). Instead of waiting at one fixed spot, the guides choose the route each night based on the weather, heading towards clearer skies. Professional photos are included, and you get a 100% refund if no aurora photos are captured.
Why this tour on night one? Because it is the most mobile option in the plan. If anything can find a gap in the clouds, a hunting tour can. And if the night is a bust, you have six more nights in hand. Book this if you want the strongest start to your aurora week. Skip it only if you would rather pay more for a smaller group, in which case see section 7.
Day 2: Nulkki Husky Adventure
Sleep in a little after your late night, then go on the Nulkki Husky Adventure5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €189, about 4 hours). You get instructions on mushing, then drive your own husky team for 5 km through Kuoksajärvi forest, followed by cookies and warm juice in a teepee. Winter clothing and pick-up within 10 km of the centre are included. February's longer daylight makes this the prettiest time of year for huskies. The tour can be cancelled or rescheduled in extreme cold (the limit is −35°C), so keep an eye on messages; if it moves, day three is free to take it.
In the evening, rest. If the forecast looks strong, step outside and look north; you do not always need a tour to see the sky.
Day 3: rest day with a campfire evening
Day 3 daytime: nothing booked
This is your first rest day. Wander the city, visit Santa Claus Village at your own pace, or simply stay in. If the husky tour was moved because of the weather, this is where it goes.
Day 3 evening: Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire
Your second aurora evening is the Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €99, about 3 hours). You are taken to a quiet viewing spot with a teepee and a fire, snacks and hot drinks, and winter clothing and transfers are included. It is a fixed location, so it does not chase clear skies like night one, but it is relaxed, short and good value. If night one already gave you a big show, this becomes a cosy bonus. If it did not, it is your second chance, with four more evenings still in reserve.
Two fixed aurora tours are not better than one mobile one plus one fixed one. That is why we mix them.
Days 4 and 5: snowmobiles and frozen waterfalls
Day 4: Wilderness Snowmobile Safari
Now that you are used to the cold, it is time for the longest machine day. The Wilderness Snowmobile Safari5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €199, about 5 hours) includes about 2 to 2.5 hours of driving through quiet wilderness, a lunch cooked over an open fire, winter clothing and pick-up. Drivers need a driving licence and must be 18 or older; two people share a snowmobile on a twin-drive ticket. Self-liability for the machine is up to €900, reduced to €250 if you buy the €25 waiver, which we recommend for first-time drivers.
Book this if you want proper snowmobiling rather than a taster. Skip it if about an hour of driving is enough; then take the Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €99) and enjoy a longer afternoon off.
Day 5: Korouoma Frozen Waterfalls Hike
Day five is the one most visitors never do, and the one we would least like you to miss. The Korouoma Frozen Waterfalls Hike5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €139, about 6 hours) takes you to a nature reserve where waterfalls freeze into walls of ice. Ice grippers, winter clothing, berry juice and light snacks are included. It is rated challenging, so it suits people who are comfortable walking on uneven, icy paths.
If that is not you, take the Ranua Wildlife Zoo Park Visit5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 instead (from €139, about 5 hours, lunch included), where you can see Arctic animals including polar bears.
Days 6 and 7: sauna, reindeer, home
Day 6: slow morning, sauna evening
Your second rest day. Sleep, read, walk by the river. In the late afternoon or evening, finish the week's big experiences with the Private Wooden Heated Sauna and Ice Swimming5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €199 per person, about 4 hours). You have a traditional wood-heated sauna to yourselves, a hand-cut ice hole for the cold plunge, instructions, towels, snacks and drinks, winter clothing and transfers. It is a private booking for at least two people, so the live calendar shows the price for your group. A hot tub can be added for an extra charge.
Day 7: Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure before you fly
On the last morning, keep it gentle. The Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €159, about 3 hours, rated very easy) includes a 2–3 km reindeer sleigh ride, stories about reindeer herding, cookies and juice, and pick-up. It is the calmest way to end a busy week. If your flight is early, move the reindeer to the morning of day six and keep the sauna for that evening.
If you only book 2, 3 or 4 of these
- 2: the aurora hunting tour and the husky tour.
- 3: add the Wilderness Snowmobile Safari.
- 4: add the sauna and ice swim, the most Finnish experience on the list.

Upgrades and smarter swaps
A smaller aurora group. If the Northern Lights are your main reason for the trip, swap night one for the Small Group Northern Lights Hunting Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €199). Groups are 2 to 8 people, tours usually last 4 to 10 hours depending on conditions, DSLR photos are included, and there is a 100% refund if no aurora photos are captured. Its booking cut-off is just one hour before the start, which makes it the ideal emergency booking later in the week if both of your aurora evenings are cloudy.
Two animals in one trip. If you would rather free up another rest day, the Kuoksa Husky & Reindeer Adventure5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €349, about 5 hours) replaces day two and day seven with a single outing, salmon soup lunch included. It costs about the same as booking both tours separately, so the gain is time, not money.
Aurora by snowmobile. For a more active evening, the Northern Lights Tour Snowmobile Driving5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 (from €149, about 4 hours, about 1 hour of driving) can replace the campfire night.

Frequently asked questions
Is February a good month for a week in Rovaniemi?
Yes. The days are noticeably longer than in December, snow cover is usually good and the nights are still dark enough for the Northern Lights. It can be very cold, so pack proper layers, and keep your plan flexible.
How many aurora tours should we book for 7 days?
We book two: a hunting tour on night one and a campfire tour on night three. With five more evenings in the week, you can add a third tour at short notice if the first two are cloudy, rather than paying for several in advance.
Do we really need rest days?
Yes. Most winter tours take 3 to 6 hours including transfers, and the cold tires you more than you expect. Two rest days keep the second half of the week as enjoyable as the first.
Is the Korouoma frozen waterfalls hike difficult?
It is rated challenging and takes about 6 hours, with ice grippers, winter clothing, berry juice and light snacks included. If walking on uneven, icy ground does not appeal, swap it for the Ranua Wildlife Zoo Park Visit.
What happens if a tour is cancelled because of the cold?
Some tours, such as the husky tour, can be cancelled or rescheduled in extreme cold. A 7-day plan gives you room to move a tour to another day, which is one more reason to keep rest days in the week.
How do we get the 5% discount on every tour?
Type HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 at checkout in each booking window. It gives 5% off and works on every activity you book, so use it on all seven.
Our final pick for a February week
If you book only one thing today, make it the Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Tour by Bus5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for your first night. It gives you the best first shot at the Northern Lights and a refund if no aurora photos are captured, and it frees the rest of the week to be about huskies, snowmobiles, frozen waterfalls, sauna and reindeer. Around it, keep the rhythm: one main activity a day, two real rest days, and a second aurora evening early enough that you still have time for a third.
Book the week together while February 2027 dates are open, and type HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 at checkout for 5% off every tour.
