A Glass Igloo Proposal Near Rovaniemi: Where to Stay, What We Set Up and How to Keep the Aurora Plan Honest

Asking the question from a warm glass igloo with the sky above you is one of the most requested ideas we hear. We plan proposals around Rovaniemi, so we can tell you which igloos and glass suites work, what we can style inside and outside them, and when a different setting is the better choice.

Short answer

A glass igloo proposal near Rovaniemi works best if you book the igloo yourselves and let us style the moment around it. Through Rovaniemi Weddings, our own company, Right Where You Are (from €650) brings a styled setting to the place you are staying, with the property’s agreement, and a photographer can be added. At the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos the heated glass igloos are open from 1 September to 31 March, and A Promise in the Ice Chapel (from €1,800) uses the Ice Chapel from mid-December. If you want a glowing glass room with dinner, Dinner in the Glass Dome (from €1,450) is the closest signature option. See all the Proposals in Lapland.

What People Mean by a Glass Igloo Proposal

When couples write to us about a “glass igloo proposal”, they usually picture the same few things: a clear dome or glass roof, a bed turned towards the sky, snow outside, and the northern lights on a good night. It is a beautiful picture and, with a bit of planning, an achievable one.

We are Joona and Alla, we live in Rovaniemi, and Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company. There are several places around Rovaniemi with glass igloos or glass-roofed suites, and the right one depends on your dates, your budget and how private you want the moment to be. Here is what we can tell you from planning proposals in these places.

One thing to know first: “igloo” covers several different kinds of room. A glass igloo is a heated transparent dome or half-dome with a bed that faces the sky. A glass-roofed suite is a conventional cabin with a glass section above the bed. A glass dinner dome is not for sleeping at all but for a private meal. Each makes a different proposal, and we will help you decide which of them suits your partner before you book anything.

The Places Around Rovaniemi We Know Best

We do not sell the igloos themselves; you book your stay with the resort, and we style and coordinate the proposal. These are the settings we work in most.

The igloos and suites at these places are booked directly with the resort, and they fill early in December and February, so check availability before you plan the proposal around a particular room.

Three Ways to Do It

1. Styled in or outside your own igloo or suite. Right Where You Are starts from €650 and covers organisation and coordination, décor arranged at your accommodation, delivery and set-up within 30 km of Rovaniemi, a bouquet of 30 roses and complimentary sparkling wine. A professional photographer is an add-on, and we recommend one. The option needs the property’s agreement, which we ask for on your behalf without mentioning your partner.

2. Glass for dinner. Dinner in the Glass Dome, from €1,450, is a private three-course dinner for two in a glowing dome at Invisible Forest Lodge. The décor can be outside among the trees, at your table, or both. Private transport within 10 km of the centre and a photographer are included.

3. Ice and then glass. A Promise in the Ice Chapel, from €1,800, is the Ice Chapel at the Arctic SnowHotel to yourselves, with entrance to the SnowHotel included. If you are staying in a glass igloo there, the evening continues in a warm room with the sky above, which is hard to beat for a first night as an engaged couple.

What each of these has in common is privacy. We prepare the setting before you arrive, step out of sight when you come, and pack down quietly afterwards, so the only people in the picture are the two of you. We work with the resort or property on timing, access and heating, which is the kind of logistics you do not want to be thinking about with a ring in your pocket.

None of this has to be fancy. The proposal is often a single question in a quiet, beautiful place, and the igloo is the place you walk back to afterwards.

The Honest Part About the Northern Lights

Nobody can guarantee the aurora, and any company that does is overpromising. Rovaniemi sits under the auroral oval, and from late August to early April the lights are possible on clear nights; the season peaks between September and March. On a cloudy night the glass roof shows cloud.

The way to make the plan honest is to build the proposal so it works either way. A candle-lit setting, a warm room and a photographer are lovely whether or not the sky cooperates, and the aurora becomes a bonus. If the lights are important to you, Yes Under the Aurora (from €1,500) is a private northern lights tour for two with a guide who is also a professional photographer, who chooses the spot with the clearest sky that night. Stay for several nights so you have more than one chance. Our cloud plan explains what we do when the sky does not clear, and the northern lights proposal guide explains the aurora option in detail.

Which Month Is Best for a Glass Igloo Proposal

The glass igloos at the SnowHotel open on 1 September and close on 31 March, and the aurora season is roughly the same length. A few notes by period:

  • September and October. Mild, with autumn colours, the lights returning and the igloos open. A quiet time to come, and a good one if you want the sky without the deepest cold.
  • November. Early snow, long dusks and fewer visitors. See proposing in Rovaniemi in November.
  • December and January. Polar night twilight, deep snow and peak demand. Book early. The Ice Chapel opens in mid-December.
  • February and March. Reliable snow, returning daylight and some of the best weeks for both the sky and the photographs. Our month-by-month guide goes through the light.

If you want snow, the lake and the Ice Chapel as well as the igloo, aim for the second half of December to March. If you would rather come in autumn, glass and dome settings are fine all year.

Keeping the Surprise When You Share a Glass Room

A glass igloo is a small space, which makes secrecy the practical problem. You will be sharing it with your partner for the whole stay, so the ring, the flowers and any messages need a plan.

  • Do not hide anything in the igloo. Keep the ring on you, and let us set up while you are out for dinner or on a tour.
  • Make a simple excuse. A late dinner, a sauna slot, a short walk for pictures. Our guide to keeping a Lapland proposal secret has tested ideas.
  • Tell the resort nothing yourselves. We communicate with the property if needed, and we never contact your partner.
  • Ask for a small reason to go out. A walk to look for the lights, a photograph by the lake, a drink at the bar; the best excuses are the ones your partner would suggest themselves.
  • Dress for both. You will be photographed outside in the cold and sitting in a warm room later, so layers help.

How to Plan It With Us

Tell us the story: how you met, what your partner loves and where you will be staying. We suggest the right option, send a clear quote within a business day and hold the date. In the days before we confirm the flowers, candles, photographer, transport and weather plan. On the day, we set up while you are on your way and step out of sight.

Our work covers Rovaniemi, the rest of Lapland and the other Nordic countries, so if your igloo is elsewhere, tell us where. Look at the Proposals in Lapland page, read about the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos and send your dates through the Contact Rovaniemi Weddings page.

FAQ

Can you arrange a proposal in a glass igloo?

We style the proposal around the igloo you book. Right Where You Are, from €650, brings a styled setting to your accommodation within 30 km of Rovaniemi and needs the property’s agreement, which we ask for without mentioning your partner. A photographer is an add-on.

Which months are the igloos open?

The glass igloos at the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos are open from 1 September to 31 March. The Ice Chapel on the same site opens in mid-December, because it is built from snow and ice each winter.

Can I guarantee the northern lights?

No one can. The season runs from late August to April and peaks from September to March. We build the proposal so that it is beautiful without them, and Yes Under the Aurora gives you a private tour with a guide who knows where the sky is clearest.

Is a glass igloo warm?

Yes. Glass igloos are heated to room temperature, unlike the Ice Chapel, which sits around 0 to −5 °C. That makes igloos a good place to end the evening after a short outdoor moment.

How far ahead should we book?

Book the igloo and write to us as early as you can, particularly for December, January and February. We reply within one business day and can sometimes help with last-minute dates if the day is free.

Does the price include a photographer?

In the signature proposals that include one, yes. For Right Where You Are the photographer is an add-on, and we would add it before anything else.

Our Honest Final Word

A glass igloo is a lovely place to end a proposal evening, and a more modest place to begin one than people expect. The sky is unpredictable, the space is small and the igloo is usually booked by someone else. What makes the evening is the plan around it: a quiet setting, a photographer who has stood in the cold before and a warm room to return to.

Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, so we are happy to plan it, but tell us what you actually want and we will say which option we think fits. Start with Right Where You Are if you have already booked, A Promise in the Ice Chapel for ice and candles, or Dinner in the Glass Dome for glass and dinner. See all ten proposals.
