Combine a Rovaniemi Holiday With a Proposal or Wedding: Itineraries for 3 and 5 Nights

You do not need a different trip to propose or marry in Lapland. You need one good evening in the middle of the holiday you were already planning. We run Rovaniemi Weddings, and here is how we fit it into three and five nights.

Short answer

Short answer: put the proposal or ceremony on the middle evening of your trip and hold the next one free as a spare. For a short break, Right Where You Are (from €650) fits around any itinerary; for longer stays, Yes Under the Aurora (from €1,500) works best. The Short Answer: Build the Trip Around One Evening

Most couples who write to us do not want a different holiday. They want the Rovaniemi holiday they have already planned — the flights from Helsinki, the husky safari, the morning at Santa Claus Village, the glass igloo night — with one evening in it that is quietly something else. That works very well, because a proposal or a small wedding needs surprisingly little room in a trip: one evening, or one afternoon, and a handful of decisions made in advance.

Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, so we have seen this from the inside many times: the couple whose trip already looks full, and the relief when they realise the proposal does not replace anything. It slots into the gaps. The only thing that really matters is choosing the right evening, and that is what this guide is for: which day of a three-, four- or five-day trip suits a question, which one suits a ceremony, and what to keep clear of the rest of the schedule.

Choose the Evening First, Then Build Around It

Every Rovaniemi itinerary has one evening that is slightly special on its own — a private aurora tour, a dinner somewhere memorable, a night in a glass igloo. Make that the evening of the proposal, and do not add a second big thing the same day. A proposal needs calm. If you have been on a snowmobile since nine and dinner is at eight, there is no space for it; if the day was a slow walk and a sauna, there is.

Three rules we use with every trip we plan around:

  1. Not the arrival day. Flights are late, bags go astray and nobody is at their best. The first full day is the earliest we would suggest.
  2. Not the last evening. A delayed flight or a cloudy night would leave no second chance. One evening before departure is the safety net for any outdoor option.
  3. Not the day after a very early start. Tired people say yes just as warmly, but they remember it less well, and so do the photographs.

For a trip of three nights, that usually means night two. For five nights, night three, with night four held as the spare. If you read nothing else here, read that: the proposal goes in the middle, and the spare goes after it.

Three Nights in Rovaniemi: Where the Question Fits

A three-night trip is the most common length we see, and it is tight but very workable. This is the shape we would give it, using only things that run in Rovaniemi most winters.

  • Day one — arrive. The airport is about ten minutes from town, so you are at the hotel quickly. Walk the town, eat early, sleep. Nothing planned for the evening.
  • Day two — the day with the question. A gentle morning: Santa Claus Village or a reindeer visit, a long lunch, a rest. Late afternoon, Right Where You Are can be waiting at your cabin or hotel, or you leave for a private evening setting. This is the day to keep light.
  • Day three — the big activity. Husky or snowmobile safari, the one you wanted. You are now engaged, wearing the ring under a glove, and the day is better for it.
  • Day four — fly home. Or, if you booked a spare, use the earlier evening as backup.

With only three nights there is no spare evening, so we favour a setting that survives weather: a styled room, a glass dome dinner or a dinner at the venue. Our proposals page lists what runs all year; if you would like an outdoor setting, ask us which of the days has the best odds and we will say honestly. Browse the full list of proposals and tell us which evening you have in mind.

Five Nights: Room for the Aurora and a Spare Evening

With five nights the picture changes: you can afford to try for the northern lights, and still have the spare. Aurora season runs from late August to April, and while nobody can promise the sky, a longer stay raises your chances because you are not betting on one night.

What we suggest for a five-night trip is to put Yes Under the Aurora on night three and keep night four free. A private tour for the two of you, led by a guide who is also a professional photographer, goes out to wherever the sky is clearest. While you watch, the guide quietly prepares flowers and candles, captures the moment you ask and photographs you together afterwards. If the sky is cloudy on night three, we move to night four. If it is clear on night two, we can move forward. That flexibility is the whole reason to book a longer trip.

The other four days are yours: a day at the lake, a snowshoe walk, a long sauna evening, a quiet day at the Arctic Circle line. Our HTF guide on how long to spend in Rovaniemi compares two to five days if you are still choosing your trip length.

Which Proposal Goes With Which Kind of Trip

Different trips want different settings. This table is how we think about it when a couple writes and says only “we arrive on the ninth and leave on the thirteenth”.

Your tripSetting we would suggestFrom priceSeason
Short break, cabin or hotel already bookedRight Where You Arefrom €650Year-round
Short break, dinner-focusedDinner in the Glass Domefrom €1,450Year-round

Winter trip, ice hotel on the listA Promise in the Ice Chapelfrom €1,800Mid-Dec–Mar
Walks, nature, photographsThe Path to Yesfrom €1,500Year-round

Every price is a from-price and includes planning, coordination and set-up. Transport and photographers depend on the option, so check the page for each one. If your trip is four nights, use the three-night shape and shift the big activity to the extra day; the proposal still sits in the middle, and the spare evening comes after it. That is also the simplest way to think about a four-night itinerary: three nights of plan, one night of margin, and a flight home that is never the evening of anything important.

Keeping the Secret While You Carry on Holidaying

The part people worry about most is not the setting but the hours before it: how to behave normally for forty-eight hours with a plan in your pocket. We have a few habits that help.

  • Tell your partner you have booked one “surprise evening” and nothing more. Most people love this and ask nothing.
  • Let us deal with the property and operator. Where the proposal is at your accommodation, we ask them on your behalf, without mentioning your partner.
  • Dress for the weather and for photographs at the same time. Warm layers, a clean base layer, and the one nice thing you can wear under a snowsuit.
  • Keep the ring on you, not in a suitcase left at the hotel. A small zipped inside pocket is better than a coat pocket with gloves.

Our companion guide on what to wear in Lapland in winter covers the layers properly. Quiet flowers are the other secret: we arrive and leave before you do wherever possible, so nobody carries a bouquet through the lobby.

Folding a Small Wedding Into the Same Trip

Some couples want more than a question. For a small ceremony inside a holiday, we use the same logic: pick the middle day, keep the day light, and leave the spare. A legal wedding needs paperwork done in advance — the examination of impediments through the Digital and Population Data Services Agency takes about seven working days and costs around €60 — and we suggest starting three to four months before you travel. A civil ceremony can be held anywhere by a district court judge, in English, and a symbolic ceremony needs no paperwork at all.

For the day itself, your time is the constraint, not our team. An elopement can be as small as the two of you; our Elopement in Lapland page explains the usual structure, and Getting Married in Finland covers the documents. If you also want the venue, Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos and its Ice Chapel are the classic winter choice and are open mid-December to March.

How to Plan It With Us

It is simpler than it looks, and you do not need to know the setting before you write; many couples tell us only the dates and the feeling they want. Four steps cover almost everything:

  1. Tell us the story. Your dates, how you met, your partner’s personality, anything they dislike.
  2. We send one option and a quote. Usually within one business day, with the price for the setting and the add-ons that matter.
  3. Quiet preparation. We coordinate the property, the operator and the flowers. You do not have to chase anyone.
  4. The moment. You walk in as a normal guest; we are already gone when you are done.

You can reach us via Contact Rovaniemi Weddings, and we never contact your partner.

FAQ

What is the best day of a Rovaniemi trip to propose?

Usually the middle of the trip, not the first or last night. For three nights that is night two, for five nights night three, with a spare evening held back in case of cloud or delays.

Can a proposal really fit into a three-night trip?

Yes. A styled setting at your accommodation, such as Right Where You Are from €650, or a dinner at Invisible Forest Lodge need only one evening and no extra travel days.

Do I need to book anything before I fly?

The earlier the better, especially for December to March. We reply within one business day; tell us your dates and where you are staying, and we confirm what is possible.

How far ahead should I start if I want a legal wedding on the trip?

Three to four months. The examination of impediments takes about seven working days and costs around €60, and you need passports and a certificate of no impediment, plus translations or apostille in some cases.

What if the weather is bad on my chosen evening?

Our outdoor options are planned with a spare evening wherever possible. In winter there is no rain, and we use clear umbrellas and warm layers for anything unexpected. A styled room or a dinner dome is the weather-proof route.

Is Rovaniemi Weddings an independent company?

It is our own company — Joona and Alla’s — so we are not neutral. We say so because we would rather you knew, and we only quote our own prices.

Our Honest Final Word

Whatever length your trip is, the structure stays the same. A holiday in Rovaniemi with a proposal in it is not a different holiday; it is the same one with a better evening. Choose the middle night, keep a spare, dress warmly and let someone else carry the flowers. Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, so we would of course like you to ask us — but even if you do it yourselves, the middle-and-spare rule is worth keeping.

Tell us your dates and where you are staying through Contact Rovaniemi Weddings, and look at Right Where You Are, Yes Under the Aurora or all ten proposals while you wait for our reply.
