A two couples trip in Panama sounds simple until you look at hotel rooms: most are built for two people, or for one family sharing a single space. Before you pick a place, decide how much togetherness you want. This guide is our planning view, built from the lodge’s own pages and booking terms. We have not stayed at Casa Cayuco yet, so we describe only what the lodge publishes.

Short answer

For a two couples trip in Panama, the setup we would look at first is the Cangrejo Beachfront Cabaña at Casa Cayuco4% off · HungryTravelPanama on Isla Bastimentos: a new two-bedroom, fully screened-in beachfront cabaña that sleeps four, ready for stays from 15 December 2026. Our photos of it are design renderings. The alternatives are two separate rooms such as Pelicano and Loro, or the three-bedroom Estrella De Mar villa. Two couples in Panama: what you actually need from a room

Four adults travelling together usually want the same few things. Everyone wants a bed that suits them, since couples are rarely happy squeezing into a shared dorm-style room. You will also want somewhere to meet that is not a bedroom, and enough separation that nobody is woken by the other pair’s early alarm. Finally, you want a place where all four can do the same things without a logistical puzzle at every meal.

That last point is where a remote lodge helps. At Casa Cayuco all meals, the boat transfer from Bocas Town and use of kayaks, paddle boards and snorkel gear are included, so there is no daily decision about who is booking what or splitting which bill. The open question is only the sleeping arrangement, and that is what this guide compares.

Remember the lodge’s own rules for any option: the minimum stay is three nights, guests must be 5 or older, and most units are open-air with fans rather than air-conditioned. We cover those honestly further down.

It also helps to be clear about the style of trip. Casa Cayuco is a remote eco lodge between rainforest and sea, with a jungle trail starting at the lodge and the Zapatillas islands ten minutes away by boat. Days are built around kayaking, snorkelling, walking and long communal meals, which suits two couples who like doing things together, but it is not a city-break format. If both couples are comfortable with that rhythm, the rest is detail.

What the Cangrejo Beachfront Cabaña is

Casa Cayuco describes Cangrejo Beachfront Cabaña4% off · HungryTravelPanama as a brand-new, spacious, fully screened-in two-bedroom cabaña on the beach, inspired by the symmetry of the mangrove crab. One bedroom has a king bed. The other has a king bed that converts into two XL twin beds, so the second room works as a double for a couple or as twins for two friends or a parent and adult child. There is a full bathroom and a large deck terrace with sea views.

Two details matter for the planning. First, it sleeps four, with two king beds as the base layout. Second, it is new: it is ready for stays from 15 December 2026, and every photo of it is a design rendering, not a picture of the finished building. We would treat the pictures as intent rather than proof, and we would check with the lodge about anything you care about, such as exact bathroom arrangements, before you rely on it.

Because it is fully screened in, it suits people who like to sleep without worrying about insects. Being on the beach also means the calm water the lodge is known for is a few steps from your deck.

Four ways to sleep four: an honest comparison

These are the realistic options for four adults, using only what the lodge lists. Room rates are not published on the lodge’s site, so for prices open the live booking page for your dates.

Cangrejo Beachfront Cabaña2 bedrooms; 2 king beds (one converts to two XL twins); one full bathroom; deck with sea viewTwo couples or friends who want to share a deck and a roofNew and shown in renderings; one bathroom for four people

Estrella De Mar villa3 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms; air-conditioned bedrooms; kitchen, living room, dining roomTwo or three couples who want space and air conditioningBuilt for up to eight; you would use part of it

The Cangrejo is the neat middle path: one address, a shared deck, and still two proper bedrooms. If you each want an en-suite bathroom, the two-room route or the villa wins. If privacy matters more than a shared terrace, two separate rooms are the safer choice.

Two separate rooms: Pelicano and Loro

The classic alternative is to book two rooms and let each couple choose. Pelicano Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama is the lodge’s smallest and most unusual cabin, with a thatched roof, a step-down bathroom and a wraparound porch for watching wildlife. Loro Lodge Suite4% off · HungryTravelPanama sits high in the canopy on the third floor of the main lodge, with views of the Caribbean Sea and the lodge’s most distinctive open-air shower, looking into the jungle canopy.

This works well when the two couples are not used to living in each other’s pockets, or when one pair keeps different hours. Each couple has its own bathroom and its own door, and you meet at the communal tables, on the dock and on the beach. We like it for friends who are close but value their own space, and for parents travelling with an adult son or daughter who would like a door of their own.

The compromise is that you lose the single shared terrace, and you are booking two rooms on the same dates, so availability has to line up. Check both on the live calendar before you plan flights. Our friends trip guide goes deeper on that style of group.

When the Estrella De Mar villa makes more sense

If you want air conditioning, or you are two couples who are happy to cook or lounge at home, look at Estrella De Mar Tropical Beachfront Villa4% off · HungryTravelPanama. It is a two-storey seafront villa with three bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom and a sea-view balcony, a living room, a well-equipped kitchen, a dining room and outdoor lounge space. Its bedrooms are fully climate-controlled, and it is the only air-conditioned accommodation at Casa Cayuco. It sleeps up to eight, with three king beds and up to two twins.

For two couples it gives each pair an en-suite bedroom plus a spare room, which is useful if one pair brings a friend or an adult child at the last minute. The trade-off is that you are booking a unit built for more people, so it is a bigger commitment than the Cangrejo, and the lodge’s open-air style still applies outside the bedrooms. If air conditioning is non-negotiable for any member of your group, this is the only room that answers it.

Our Cangrejo room guide covers the new cabaña on its own if you want a closer look.

What is included for four, and what is extra

Casa Cayuco works almost like an all-inclusive, which makes a group of four easy to budget for. Included in the stay:

  • Round-trip scheduled speedboat transfer from Bocas Town, about 30 to 35 minutes
  • All meals: chef’s choice breakfast, lunch, a three-course dinner and an afternoon snack, plus coffee and tea every morning
  • Sea kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats
  • A guided tour of Salt Creek village
  • Daily housekeeping and 24/7 on-site staff

Extra: drinks, guided excursions, staff gratuities (the lodge recommends 12 to 15% of the stay), the 10% Panamanian hotel tax on room charges and a 7% tax on excursions and drinks. Excursions are priced per person, so multiply by four: for example, the half-day Zapatillas islands trip is listed at $80 per person, so $320 for the group, while the Salt Creek tour is free. Prices are as listed on the lodge’s site in November 2026 and may change.

One practical note: the lodge runs one scheduled boat a day, with a 3:00 pm departure from Bocas Town and a return around 12:30 pm, so plan your flights around it. The lodge recommends Air Panama flight 980 into Bocas and 981 back out, which match that boat; check our hub page for the wider planning picture if you are building a longer trip.

Who this trip is not for

We would rather you book the right trip. A two couples stay at Casa Cayuco is probably not for you if:

  • You want nightlife: Bocas Town is a 30-minute boat ride away and the boat runs on a schedule.
  • You can stay fewer than three nights, which is the lodge’s minimum.
  • Anyone in your group is under 5, as the lodge does not accept younger guests.
  • You need air conditioning in every room: only the villa has it.
  • You want four separate en-suite bathrooms in one building and a guaranteed finished building today: the Cangrejo is new and shown in renderings.

FAQ

How many people does the Cangrejo cabaña sleep?

Four. It has two bedrooms: one with a king bed, and one with a king bed that converts into two XL twin beds. There is a full bathroom and a large deck terrace with sea views.

When can we stay in the Cangrejo?

It is ready for stays from 15 December 2026. The photos we show are design renderings, so check with the lodge for any detail that matters to you.

Is it better for two couples to book one cabaña or two rooms?

It depends on privacy. The Cangrejo gives a shared roof and deck with two bedrooms; two rooms such as Pelicano and Loro give each couple its own bathroom and door. The villa gives en-suite bedrooms and air conditioning.

Does the cabaña have air conditioning?

The lodge says only the Estrella De Mar villa is air-conditioned. Other units are open-air or screened-in with fans, so ask the lodge about the Cangrejo’s details.

Are meals and transfers included for all four of us?

Yes. All meals, the afternoon snack, the scheduled boat transfer from Bocas Town, kayaks, paddle boards and snorkel gear are included. Drinks, excursions, tips and taxes are extra.

What is the minimum stay and the age limit?

The minimum stay is three nights, and guests must be 5 or older because of the remote location.

Our Honest Final Word

For two couples, the Cangrejo is the option we would look at first: two real bedrooms, one beachfront deck and everything included on a calm Caribbean beach. But it is new, and we have not seen it built, so go in with open eyes. If you want maximum privacy, book two rooms; if you want air conditioning, take the villa.

Casa Cayuco is not for nightlife, short stays or guests under 5, and we would rather say so now.
