Why one igloo night suits a honeymoon

We are a couple from Rovaniemi who run Rovaniemi Weddings, so we have seen plenty of honeymoons, and the ones people talk about are rarely the most expensive. A night in a snow igloo is memorable because it is different from the rest of the trip: a private igloo, an expedition sleeping bag, a rose frozen in ice if you want one, and a hot tub in the open air. We have not stayed at Iglu-Dorf ourselves; this plan comes from its published facts.

It works best as one night in a longer trip, not the whole trip. Iglu-Dorf itself recommends a single night.

What the Romantic Igloo includes

The Romantic Igloo sleeps two. Included: welcome drink and aperitif tray, igloo tour, all-you-can-eat Swiss cheese fondue, whirlpool and sauna use (subject to availability), a night walk or snowshoeing, the overnight stay, expedition sleeping bags and liners, morning tea served to the bag, and breakfast. The default is a double sleeping bag; two single bags are available free on request. It is a snow bed with thermal mats, thin mattresses and real sheepskins.

Romantic extras at checkout

The Gstaad checkout lists these add-ons: surprise cake CHF 15, rose in an ice block CHF 29, rose petals CHF 25, champagne in the room (0.375 L) CHF 52, and “Candle Light” — fondue with a bottle of wine at a table for two — CHF 99. Check the extras shown for your own village when you book, since lists can differ.

Which village for a honeymoon

For the view, Zermatt: the igloos sit below Rotenboden with the Matterhorn above, though we cannot promise visibility on any night. A sample honeymoon plan

Spend a few days in a Swiss city or resort, then take the igloo night mid-trip. Arrive the day before, buy your cableway or train ticket, meet at the set time (Zermatt: 4:30 pm at Rotenboden, train from Zermatt around 4:00 pm), have fondue, soak in the hot tub, and sleep at about 0 °C. In the morning, breakfast and a slow return to a warm hotel. Tickets and visitor’s tax are not included.

Honest bits before you book

Shared dry toilets, no shower in the igloo, a walk in the snow with a backpack and a cold bed. If the thought of that is fun, go. If one of you will be miserable, choose the TinyLodge. See our bathroom reality check and our Valentine’s igloo guide.

Dates: when you can use the code

Our code covers stays from 4 January to 4 April 2027, Sunday to Thursday nights only. In practice that means Sunday and Thursday nights (Gstaad also Monday) — the live calendar on iglu-dorf.com shows exactly which nights are open. A honeymoon in January, February or March therefore fits, but Christmas and New Year do not.

How to book your igloo night with HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5

5. Confirm. You can cancel free of charge up to 60 days before the night; after that Iglu-Dorf charges 10% (59–30 days), 50% (29–7 days) and 100% (under 7 days or no-show), with refunds preferably as vouchers. Discounts are not cumulative.
