The Eco Barn at Finca de Arrieta: Our Honest Guide to Lanzarote’s Family Barn for 2 Adults and 3 Children
A 90 m² converted Canarian barn on one level, with a king bedroom, a bunk-bed room, a walled garden and a shared solar-heated pool, 300 metres from a calm golden beach. We went through the Lanzarote Retreats page, the booking engine and the small print to see who the Eco Barn really suits, what a winter week was quoted at, and how our 5% reader discount works.

This guide is built from the live property pages and booking engine of Lanzarote Retreats — sleeping capacities, inclusions, distances and prices come from the operator, never invented. We have not stayed in these homes ourselves; we research them and send readers.
The Eco Barn5% off · code inside is the home we would look at first for a family of four or five that does not need a private pool. It is a restored Canarian barn at Finca de Arrieta, Lanzarote Retreats’ off-grid eco village in the north-east of the island: two bedrooms (a king bed and a set of bunk beds), a z-bed or travel cot for a third child, a walk-in shower room, a full kitchen, a walled and gated garden with a hammock and a BBQ, and a shared solar-heated pool a few steps away. Children 17 and under stay free at the Finca, so on the dates we sampled the price was the same for two adults and for two adults with two children: €1,172 for 7 nights from 10 January 2027. That is a quote from the operator’s booking engine on 23 October 2026, not a rate card, so check the live calendar for your own dates. Use code HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for stays until 18 December 2026 (Christmas and New Year excluded) or HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY275 for stays from January 2027 — 5% off either way. We are Lanzarote Retreats’ affiliate partner and may earn a commission on bookings made with our codes — the 5% discount is yours either way.

The Eco Barn at a Glance
Finca de Arrieta is 21 self-catering homes — yurts, stone cottages and villas — on the edge of Arrieta, a fishing village of about 400 people on Lanzarote’s north-east coast. The whole village runs on solar electricity with a generator as back-up, and a 300-metre track leads down to Playa de la Garita, an 810-metre golden beach with calm water, a beach bar, showers and a play park. Within that village the Eco Barn5% off · code inside is one of the family-sized homes: a detached, 90 m² barn on a single level, lovingly restored with local stone walls and wood and marble floors, according to Lanzarote Retreats.
The headline facts from the operator’s page are simple. It sleeps a maximum of two adults plus three children or infants. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom, free fast wifi, a private walled and gated garden with a shaded terrace, a BBQ, sun loungers and a hammock, and access to the Finca’s shared pool and communal kitchen-and-lounge area. It is 20 km from Arrecife airport. We have not slept there — Joona and Alla live in Rovaniemi, Finland, and we send readers rather than review from experience — so everything here comes from the operator’s own description, its FAQ and a booking-engine check we made in October 2026.
What makes the Barn interesting is the family arithmetic. Many holiday homes top out at four guests; this one takes five, and because children 17 and under go free at Finca de Arrieta, the extra child does not add a surcharge on the dates we tested. That is unusual enough that it deserves its own guide.
Room by Room: What You Get Inside
The large lounge has a patio door and seating for six, and it opens straight into the kitchen. The kitchen is fully fitted and bespoke, with an oven and grill, a four-ring gas hob, a fridge-freezer and, the operator says, plenty of cupboard space. Self-catering is the point of this holiday: you shop in the village supermarket, cook in your own kitchen and eat outside, with the Finca’s honesty shop open 24 hours for anything you forgot.

The master bedroom has a king-size double bed, a wooden floor and oriental furniture, and a window with a sea view. The second bedroom has a marble floor, a set of bunk beds and its own sea-view window; it is reached through the master bedroom or directly from the covered terrace. A z-bed or travel cot can be added for a third child or infant. In practice that means one adult couple in the king room, two children in the bunks, and the third child on the z-bed, most likely in the lounge or in the bunk room, depending on ages. We would ask the operator how they set up the z-bed before booking, because the bunk room is not huge.
There is one walk-in shower room with a washbasin and a toilet, entered from the lounge. A further shared shower room and toilet sits by the communal pool area. So this is a one-bathroom home: perfectly fine for two adults and young children, but if you are travelling with several teenagers, you may start to feel it. Bed linen, towels, cleaning and utilities are included in the price, and the welcome pack on arrival includes cava, water, milk, wine, coffee and tea.
Who the Eco Barn Suits (and Who Should Look at Something Else)
We would put the Barn at the top of the list for families with young or primary-school children: two adults plus up to three children, with a garden that is walled and gated, a pool a few steps away and a play park, donkeys, chickens and a giant chess set on the same estate. For a family with a toddler, the baby kit is free on request — travel cot, high chair, changing mat, potty, toddler step and baby bath — and child car seats in all sizes are free if you take one of the operator’s cars.
It also suits a couple who simply want more room than a studio gives them, and parents who like the idea of a place where nobody is looking at a television. The Finca does not fit TVs, dishwashers, electric kettles or irons in its homes, to protect the solar system, although you can use any ordinary electrical appliance you bring.
Who should look elsewhere? Families of five or six adults, or groups that need more than one bathroom, should compare the Eco Luxury Villa5% off · code inside (4 adults plus 2 children, two bathrooms) or the Eco Luxury Farmhouse5% off · code inside (three bedrooms, private pool, up to 6 adults plus 3 children). Two adults with one child on a tighter budget may be happier in the Eco Garden Cottage5% off · code inside, which sleeps up to 4 adults plus 2 children in a 40 m² studio and is the cheapest of the four in the operator’s quotes. And if you want a private pool, none of the four smaller homes has one: the Barn shares the Finca’s 13 m × 2.5 m solar-heated pool, which the operator says is open all year.
The Garden, the Pool and the Village Outside the Gate
The garden is where a Barn week is spent. The covered terrace has sun loungers, a BBQ and a teak garden dining set; the operator says the terrace looks over the garden to the Temisa valley and the volcanic mountains, which makes it a sunset spot. There is a hammock, and the home has access to table tennis. Everything is behind a wall and gate, which for parents of toddlers is the feature that matters most.

The shared pool area has its own covered kitchen and lounge with free wifi, a shaded daybed and a laundry service. Linen is changed mid-stay for bookings over 8 nights, and luggage storage is available on departure day. A Monday paella evening runs at the Finca, subject to availability, and a mobile concierge works through WhatsApp throughout your stay.
Beyond the gate, the village does the rest. Arrieta has seafront fish restaurants, a pizzeria with takeaway, a supermarket and Playa de la Garita, whose waters generally stay calm through the year according to the operator. Haría, the market town, Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes are all a short drive. None of it is purpose-built resort: Arrieta is described as peaceful and traditional, and that is exactly the appeal — or, if you want neon and nightclubs, exactly the problem.

Every home has a downside, and the operator is open about the Barn’s: it sits on the perimeter of the Finca closest to the beach, so some noise from the main road can be heard. If you are a light sleeper or travelling with a baby who wakes easily, ask for the operator’s view on how noticeable it is before you book, and bring earplugs for the adults.
Second, off-grid is a real thing. There is no air conditioning or heating in the Finca homes — the operator says temperatures stay around 18–28 °C all year, so none is needed, and fans can be provided in warm spells. Evenings between October and March can be cool, so pack a fleece, a light waterproof and long trousers. Hairdryers are not provided as standard because of the solar system, but one can be supplied on request. Hot water comes from a gas heater in each property.
Third, the pool is shared with the rest of the Finca, so you will not have it to yourself, and the beach track is a 300-metre walk each way with buggies and beach bags. Finally, the Atlantic in winter is cool — roughly 18–20 °C is a sensible expectation — and the north-facing beaches can have swell, so heated-pool days and calm-water beach days are both part of a realistic plan. None of this changes our recommendation, but it should shape your expectations.
What a Winter Week Costs: Real Quotes From the Booking Engine
Lanzarote Retreats does not publish a fixed rate card, so we asked its booking engine on 23 October 2026 for 7-night stays. The numbers below are quotes for those dates and guests, not guarantees; prices change with the calendar and availability, and the live page is the only price that counts.
| Home (sleeps) | Dates quoted | 7-night quote, 2 adults |
|---|---|---|
| Eco Barn5% off · code inside (2 + 3 children) | 10–17 Jan 2027 | €1,172 |
| Eco Barn5% off · code inside | 24–31 Jan 2027 | €1,228 |
| Eco Barn5% off · code inside | 7–14 Feb 2027 | €1,486 |
| Eco Barn5% off · code inside | 7–14 Mar 2027 | €1,384 |
| Eco Garden Cottage5% off · code inside (4 + 2 children) | 10–17 Jan 2027 | €1,163 |
| Eco Cabin5% off · code inside (4 + 2 children) | 10–17 Jan 2027 | €1,336 |
| Eco Luxury Villa5% off · code inside (4 + 2 children) | 24–31 Jan 2027 | €1,656 |
For the Barn, the engine returned the same €1,172 for two adults with two children on 10–17 January 2027, which matches the operator’s statement that children 17 and under go free at Finca de Arrieta. That works out at roughly €167 per night for the whole home, which is the figure we would use to compare it with two hotel rooms. On those January dates the Garden Cottage was just a touch cheaper and the Cabin and Luxury Villa dearer, so the Barn sits in the middle of the Finca’s family homes, and it is the one built around two adults plus three children. We have not got a December quote for the Barn, so if you are looking at early December, ask the booking page directly.
Payment rules matter as much as the price: a 30% non-refundable deposit at booking, the balance 30 days before arrival, and cancellation forfeits the deposit or the full amount inside 30 days. The operator recommends travel insurance, and so do we.
Getting There and Getting Around
The Finca is 20 km from Arrecife airport. The flight from Helsinki is roughly six hours and from the UK about four, and Lanzarote is two hours behind Finland and on UK time in winter, so a family can arrive in time for a late lunch with no jet lag. Check-in is from 16:00 and check-out by 10:00, with early arrival or late departure available for 50% of a nightly rate, subject to availability. Check-in is self-service.

For Finca guests, Lanzarote Retreats can arrange a private airport transfer in a minivan (ask at least 48 hours ahead), and the package includes a complimentary 5-seater car, a hybrid where possible, for up to 7 days. The price depends on group size and dates, so ask for a quote. Drivers must be over 25 with a licence held for two years, and child seats are free on request. There is also a bus stop on the main road by the Finca.
Do you need a car? For a Barn week, probably yes for part of it. Timanfaya, the César Manrique sites and the markets at Haría and Teguise are all drives, but the beach, a supermarket and restaurants are within walking distance, so quiet days can be car-free. Minimum stay at the Finca is 3 nights, or 2 if you arrive within a month, with flexible arrival days — useful if you are trying to fit a long weekend around school dates.

Winter dates are the busiest and the Christmas to New Year fortnight sells first, so if you know your January or February week, check the calendar early. The code for stays until 18 December does not cover Christmas and New Year, which is why we say that if you want a Barn week in the festive period, plan on paying the normal price and booking early.

Can Lanzarote Retreats arrange airport transfers and a car?
Yes, for Finca de Arrieta guests: a private return transfer plus a complimentary 5-seater car for up to 7 days, with 48 hours’ notice. Prices depend on group size and dates, so request a quote. Child car seats are free.
Our Honest Final Word
The Eco Barn will not suit everyone: one bathroom, some road noise from the nearest edge of the Finca, a shared pool and no television. But for two adults and two or three children it is a rare combination — a private, gated garden, two real bedrooms, a full kitchen, a calm beach at the bottom of the track and no per-child surcharge. We have not stayed there, so we cannot tell you how the beds feel or how loud the road is on a Tuesday night; we can tell you what the operator, its FAQ and its booking engine said, and that it is the first home we would shortlist for a family of five.
