Bocas del Toro Villa for Groups: Best Room for 6–8 Guests
Six, seven or eight of you, one Caribbean island and a lot of group-chat opinions. Here is how we would split a bigger party across Casa Cayuco’s rooms, why the three-bedroom villa is the obvious first look, and when two bungalows beat one big room.

Group trips fail on the accommodation question long before anyone books a flight: someone wants air-conditioning, someone wants a view, someone does not want to share a bathroom with their brother-in-law. We are family travellers from Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland, and we have learned that the best group stay is the one where the sleeping arrangement is settled in the first ten minutes. Everything below about Casa Cayuco comes from the lodge’s own pages and booking terms; the planning logic is ours. We have not stayed there yet — we researched it closely and partnered with it.
The best accommodation in Bocas del Toro for a group of 6–8 is the Estrella De Mar villa at Casa Cayuco — a three-bedroom beachfront villa that sleeps eight, with 3 king beds plus up to 2 twin beds, climate-controlled bedrooms, a kitchen and dining area and a sea-view balcony. For six, the Mono Panoramic Treetop Cabaña4% off · HungryTravelPanama is the fun alternative. The short list: which rooms actually fit 6–8 people
Casa Cayuco has eleven accommodations, sleeping between two and eight guests each. Only a few can hold a group of six or more under a single roof, so the decision is smaller than it looks. This is the whole menu for a party of 6–8, using the lodge’s own bed counts:
- Estrella De Mar Tropical Beachfront Villa4% off · HungryTravelPanama — three bedrooms, sleeps 8 (3 king beds + up to 2 twin beds), the only air-conditioned accommodation at the lodge.
- Mono Panoramic Treetop Cabaña4% off · HungryTravelPanama — sleeps 6 (1 king bed + up to 4 twin beds), open-air, up in the rainforest canopy.
- Two neighbouring bungalows — for example Tortuga Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama and Delfín Beachside Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama, which each sleep 5, so together they take a party of up to ten comfortably split.
- The new Cangrejo two-bedroom cabaña (sleeps 4) combined with a second unit — ready for stays from 15 December 2026.
Everything else — the lodge suites and the small honeymoon bungalows — is built for two or three, so we would use them only to top up a bigger group.
The Estrella De Mar villa: why it is our first pick for eight
If your group is a multigenerational family, two or three couples, or simply a bunch of friends who want to share one space, the villa is the answer. It is a three-bedroom beachfront villa with a proper living room, a kitchen and dining area, and a balcony with a sea view and a swing bed. The bedrooms are climate-controlled — the only ones at the lodge that are — which matters if anyone in your party sleeps badly in tropical heat.

Three king beds plus up to two twin beds means the arrangements are flexible: three couples, two couples and two kids on the twins, or a grandparent and a few grandchildren with the rest of the family in the king rooms. Because the villa is one self-contained unit, your group has a place to gather that is not the shared lodge deck — handy for a quiet card game when the rain comes through in the evening.
Remember the lodge’s rule: no guests under 5 years old, so the villa is a fit for families with children of five and up, teens and adults. If you are travelling with a toddler, Casa Cayuco is not the right place for this trip.
When the Mono treetop cabaña beats the villa
The Mono Panoramic Treetop Cabaña sleeps six: one king bed plus up to four twin beds. It is open to the rainforest — the lodge describes an open-air treetop level with lounge seating — so it is the room for people who want to feel like they are sleeping in the canopy rather than beside it. For a group of friends or a family with older kids, nothing else on the island feels like it.

Choose Mono over the villa when your group is six or fewer, when nobody cares about air-conditioning, and when the idea of falling asleep surrounded by trees is the point of the trip. Choose the villa when you want a kitchen, a living room, a king bed for every couple and climate control. We wrote a closer look at the difference in our guide to Panama stays, where every room has its own page.
Splitting a group across two bungalows: the case for privacy
A single big unit is not always the best answer. If your party is two families, or friends who want separate bathrooms and separate mornings, booking two bungalows side by side gives everyone their own door. Tortuga (1 queen bed + up to 3 twin beds) and Delfín (also 1 queen bed + up to 3 twin beds) each sleep five, so a group of eight can split four and four with room to spare.

Every cabin and suite at Casa Cayuco has an en-suite open-air bathroom, a high-powered ceiling fan, a mosquito net, memory foam mattresses and high-speed wifi, so splitting up does not mean anyone gets a lesser room. The trade-off against the villa is simple: you lose the shared living room and kitchen, and you gain privacy and a bungalow per family.
Both bungalows are open-air, with high-speed fans rather than air-conditioning. If that is a dealbreaker for anyone in the group, the villa is still the only option.

What a group gets included — and what costs extra
Planning a group budget is easier here than at most places because the big items are bundled. Every stay includes the round-trip scheduled speedboat transfer from Bocas Town, all meals (chef’s choice breakfast, lunch, a three-course dinner and an afternoon snack), morning coffee and tea, daily housekeeping, a guided tour of Salt Creek village, and the use of sea kayaks, SUP boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats.

What is extra: drinks, guided excursions, staff gratuities (the lodge recommends 12–15% of the stay), a 10% Panamanian hotel tax on room charges and a 7% tax on excursions and beverages. Room rates are not published on the lodge’s site, so we will not guess — open our link for live rates for your dates and compare the villa against two bungalows with real numbers.
Meals are communal, which is great for groups: breakfast, lunch and dinner are shared tables, with a large table on the dock for dinners under the stars. The food is predominantly plant-based with fresh fish brought to the dock by cayuco every evening, and the kitchen adapts to allergies and diets.
Bigger than eight? Group rates and the whole lodge
Casa Cayuco holds a maximum of 53 guests. A group of 30 or more can reserve the entire lodge, and groups of 20 or more get discounted per-person rates through custom quotes — you contact the lodge directly for these. The lodge hosts large family vacations, yoga and wellness retreats, multi-day kayak trips, milestone celebrations, writers’ escapes, school groups and wedding parties.
For a party of 6–8 you are below those thresholds, so the practical advice is to book early and to book together: three-night minimum, a 50% deposit to confirm, and the group’s dates need to line up with the daily boat. If you are in the 10–20 range and thinking of mixing villa, Mono and bungalows, ask the lodge about availability before you promise anyone a particular room.
Getting a group to Casa Cayuco without losing anyone
The simple route is the lodge’s: fly Panama City (Albrook) to Bocas del Toro, about 50 minutes with Air Panama. The recommended flight 980 arrives in Bocas around 2:00 pm and matches the lodge’s one scheduled daily boat — the captain meets you at the airport with a sign, and the boat ride to Casa Cayuco takes roughly 30–35 minutes through the mangroves of the Bastimentos National Marine Park. The way back leaves the lodge around 12:30 pm to connect with flight 981.
For a group, the single boat is an advantage: nobody is lost in Bocas Town, and you arrive together. Other transfer times are possible as private transfers for a fee; early pick-ups are not available. Our Honest Final Word
For a group of six to eight, the villa is the room that makes the logistics disappear: one booking, one shared living space, a king bed for every couple and the only air-conditioning at the lodge. For six who want a story to tell, the Mono treetop cabaña wins on character. And if your group is two separate households, two bungalows give everyone their own door. What the lodge is not for: toddlers, anyone who needs air-conditioning outside the villa, or a group that wants nightlife — Bocas Town is 30+ minutes away by boat.
