The short version

Both rooms work for families with children aged 5 and up. Tortuga is closer to the water and sleeps 5 with a queen bed plus up to 3 twin beds. Mono sleeps 6 with a king bed plus up to 4 twin beds, and its open-air treetop level gives you the rainforest around you.

Mono Panoramic Treetop Cabaña

Mono Panoramic Treetop Cabaña4% off · HungryTravelPanama is a treetop cabaña reached by a staircase into the jungle canopy. It has an open-air treetop level with lounge seating, a bedroom open to the rainforest and a floor with twin beds and canopy views. Its upper level is one of the screened options at the lodge.

Best for: families of five or six, kids who love treehouses, and parents who like space to spread out. Think about: stairs, the walk to the beach, and the fact that it is open to the forest, so insects and night sounds are part of the stay.

Tortuga Beachfront Bungalow

Tortuga Beachfront Bungalow4% off · HungryTravelPanama sits beside the beach boardwalk, among the palms, with a queen bed and up to three twin beds. It sleeps 5. If you picture running into the sea before breakfast with no walk, this is the one.

Best for: families of 3–5 who want the beach on the doorstep. Think about: it is smaller than Mono for a family of six, and it is open-air with fans rather than air-conditioning.

Daily life with kids at Casa Cayuco

All meals are included: breakfast, lunch, a 3-course dinner and an afternoon snack, with kid-friendly meal options on request. Kayaks, SUP boards and snorkel gear are free to borrow, and the Salt Creek village tour is included. The Casa Cayuco Sendero jungle loop (about 2 hours) costs $25 per person; the Zapatillas half-day is $80 per person.

Which should you book?

If you have five or six people, book Mono. If you have four or five and beach time is the priority, book Tortuga. If you travel with grandparents or a bigger group, ask about the villa. Neither room suits children under 5, because the lodge does not accept them.

What is included and what costs extra

Families usually want to know what the room covers. Every stay at Casa Cayuco includes the scheduled speedboat transfer from Bocas Town, all meals (chef’s choice breakfast, lunch, a three-course dinner and an afternoon snack), locally grown coffee and tea each morning, daily housekeeping, 24/7 staff, the Salt Creek village tour and the use of kayaks, SUP boards, snorkel gear and yoga mats.

Extra: guided excursions, drinks, staff gratuities (the lodge suggests 12–15% of the stay), a 10% hotel tax on room charges and a 7% tax on excursions and drinks. Room rates are not published on the lodge’s site, so we never quote a nightly figure; open our link for live prices. You can read more in our guide to what is included and what is extra.

Getting there and timing your stay

Most guests fly from Panama City’s Albrook airport to Bocas del Toro in about 50 minutes with Air Panama. The lodge recommends flight 980 (arriving around 2:00 pm) and flight 981 back (leaving around 2:30 pm), because they match its daily boat: a 2:00 pm pickup at Bocas airport and a return from the lodge around 12:30 pm. Other times are possible as a paid private transfer, and early pick-ups are not available. Our full getting-there guide covers the overland options too.

Because the minimum stay is three nights and check-out is at 12:30 pm, most couples and families plan four or five nights. See our guide on how many nights to book.

What to pack and what to expect

Pack reef-safe sunscreen, natural insect repellent (mosquitoes and chitras come out at dusk and dawn), a headlamp or flashlight, trail or water shoes and a light rain jacket. Power is on 24/7 from solar panels with US-style 110 V outlets, though guests are asked not to use hair dryers. Panama uses US dollars, and payment on site can be cash, bank transfer or card; bring a little cash for crafts in Salt Creek. Geckos, bats and the odd spider are part of an open-air stay, and the nets are tightly woven. Our packing list has the full rundown.
