What Snowshoeing Asks of a Teenager
Snowshoeing is walking with large frames on your feet. In deep, soft snow it is more tiring than a normal walk, because every step lifts a heavier foot. It is not a race. A guided group moves at the pace of its slowest member, with stops to look, rest and drink. Any teenager who can walk uphill for an hour and tolerate cold air can handle it. Teenagers who are very sedentary may find it harder, but the pace is adjustable.
The operator recommends the hike for ages 10 and up, which matches what we would expect from the physical effort and the weather.
What the Four Hours Include
The Arctic Snowshoe Hike5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is listed at 4 hours, including the transfer time. Pickup is at 10:00 outside Clarion Hotel The Edge, in a black Mercedes minivan, and groups are 2 to 8 guests. The price includes a local expert guide, transport, and snowshoes and poles. It does not list food, so bring snacks and a thermos. The operator describes pristine snow, snow-capped mountains, fjords and potential sightings of reindeer, foxes and seabirds.

Will They Be Bored?
This is the honest question. Teenagers rarely complain about a hike that feels like an adventure: new equipment, deep snow, mountains and the chance to photograph a landscape that looks like another planet. They do complain about cold, hunger and slow pace. So pack food, encourage photography, and let them walk near the guide if they ask questions. In our experience of Arctic outings, people tend to settle in once the first rest stop is behind them.
Clothing and Gear
The Arctic climate is unpredictable, as the operator puts it, so dress in layers: thermal underwear, a fleece or wool middle layer, a windproof and waterproof outer layer, good winter boots, a hat, gloves and a buff. Teenagers often wear trainers and fashion jackets; do not allow it. Warm socks matter more than anything else, and a spare pair in a pocket is cheap insurance.
Hands are the first problem: bring two pairs of gloves, a thin pair under a warm one for taking photos.
