If you are searching for Salt Lake City RV rental, there is a good chance you are thinking about Utah’s national parks. Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands are known as the Mighty Five, and a single loop from Salt Lake City can link them all. An RV makes sense here because the parks are far apart, campgrounds are scenic, and hotels near the parks fill early.
It is November, which is the right time to start looking for spring and autumn 2027. We have gone through the live Salt Lake City RV rental page on CampervanPlanet for prices and seasons, and filled in the route using well-known geography. This is a researched planning guide, not a claim of a recent personal tour, and you should check park rules, reservations and road status on official sites.
Salt Lake City RV rental starts from about $86 a day on CampervanPlanet, with cheapest seven-night totals of about $602 for November and March and $850 for June 2027. October is described as arguably the best month for Utah RV travel, summer is very hot in the south of the state and winter is mild but quiet. Plan 8–12 days for the Mighty Five loop. Our €20 reader coupon works at checkout.
Why Salt Lake City is a good RV base
Salt Lake City has a major airport with flights from across the US and several European hubs, and the CampervanPlanet listing describes it as basecamp for Utah’s Mighty Five. The pick-up is at the Salt Lake City (SLC) depot, and you can also hire one way to other cities in the booking engine, such as Denver, Las Vegas or Seattle, subject to fees.
A big advantage over starting from Las Vegas is that you can combine the Mighty Five with Yellowstone and Grand Teton, which sit north of Salt Lake City, in a summer trip. The page notes that Yellowstone and Grand Teton are best in summer, while Yellowstone and high passes close in winter. If you want a Colorado alternative, read our Denver RV rental guide.
The Mighty Five loop, step by step
A typical anticlockwise loop goes south from Salt Lake City to Capitol Reef and Moab, then on to Arches and Canyonlands, back west to Bryce Canyon and finally Zion. Distances are long. As a rough guide, Moab is about 235 miles (3.5 hours) from Salt Lake City, and the parks are each a couple of hours apart, so a comfortable trip is 8–12 days with at least two nights in each area.
Arches and Canyonlands cluster around Moab, with red arches, canyon overlooks and river views. Capitol Reef is quieter, with orchards and cliffs. Bryce Canyon has its hoodoos and high-altitude nights. Zion is the busiest, with a shuttle system in season and a canyon that rewards early starts. Check the National Park Service pages for current rules, shuttles and any timed-entry reservations, as they change.
If you can, build one slow day into the middle of the trip. After several long drives, a day with a short hike, a picnic and an early night is worth more than one extra viewpoint. Sunrise and sunset are the best light in red-rock country, and the midday sun is harsh, so plan your driving for the hours when the light is flat anyway.

Which month to choose
The page is clear about the seasons. Spring (March to May) is ideal for southern Utah, with comfortable 15–25°C temperatures and wildflowers in Zion, although some higher-elevation roads may stay closed through April. Summer is best for Yellowstone and Grand Teton, but southern Utah is very hot (38°C and above in Moab), crowds are biggest and afternoon thunderstorms are common in canyon country.
Autumn is the sweet spot, with comfortable temperatures, colour in the canyons, thinning crowds and all five parks accessible. The page says October is arguably the single best month. Winter is mild in the south at about 5–12°C, with far fewer visitors and Bryce in snow, but Yellowstone and high passes are closed. Nearby Park City and Alta offer skiing if you want a different kind of trip.
If your dates are fixed to a summer holiday, consider a split trip with the cooler north first, or do the southern parks early in the morning and rest in the shade after lunch.

What it costs
The Salt Lake City page shows the cheapest vehicle for a seven-night rental from SLC at about $86 a day in November 2026 and March 2027 (about $602 for the week) and about $122 a day in June 2027 (about $850 a week). Those are minimums, but they show that the summer premium is smaller here than in some places.
The wider USA price study reports typical prices of about $104 a day from November to March and $168 a day from June to August. It also notes that excess reduction costs about $13–41 a day, and that one-way trips cost extra. Our USA RV rental cost guide has the full breakdown, and the main USA RV rental page lets you compare vehicles.
Budget separately for fuel, campground fees, national park passes and groceries. Distances in Utah are large, and fuel stations can be spread out, so fill up when you can.
Camping and practical tips
National park campgrounds are popular and often need booking months ahead through the official reservation system, so check the opening dates for your parks. Private RV parks near Moab, Springdale and Bryce are an alternative, and some national forest and public lands allow dispersed camping with rules, so check local signs and maps.
Desert weather can swing from hot days to cold nights, so pack layers and plenty of water. Carry a paper map or download offline maps, because phone coverage drops in canyon country. Keep an eye on the weather during storm season, as flash floods can affect roads and slot canyons.
If you want to continue west, our Las Vegas RV guide covers a southern loop with Death Valley and the Grand Canyon.
Booking tips and our discount
Compare several vehicle types and total prices including excess reduction and mileage. A small camper van is easy to park at trailheads, while a larger motorhome gives you a bathroom and kitchen but can be harder on narrow park roads. Check any length restrictions on scenic roads such as the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway, where large vehicles may need an escort and fee, and consider that before you choose a big rig.
