Yes, We Work Beyond Rovaniemi

The most common reason people choose a resort outside Rovaniemi is a skiing trip. Levi, Ylläs and Saariselkä are known for their slopes and fell landscapes, and many couples base the whole holiday there. Some of them ask us whether a Rovaniemi-based team can handle a proposal at their resort, and the answer is yes.

Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company. We are based in Rovaniemi, and the company works across Lapland, Finland, Sweden and Norway; the places we name include Levi, Ylläs, Saariselkä, Pyhä, Kiruna, Abisko, Tromsø and the Lofoten islands. Most proposals happen close to Rovaniemi because that is where most visitors stay, but the team, the flowers and the method travel. This article explains what travels well and what we ask you to check first.

The questions we ask first are short: which resort and cabin, which dates, who you want to surprise, what the two of you enjoy doing together and whether a photographer is a must. From the answers we suggest one or two plans, and you choose. If you are still deciding where to stay, tell us that too, because the right proposal sometimes decides the right resort.

What Changes When the Proposal Is Away From Rovaniemi

Four things change, and none of them is a problem if we know early.

1. Transport. Some options include transport within a distance from Rovaniemi (for example, The Grand Romance within 30 km, Dinner in the Glass Dome within 10 km). Beyond that, private transport is priced by distance. The team or the flowers have to travel, and we say so in the quote.
2. The venue. The private land, the lake and the Ice Chapel near Rovaniemi cannot move. Elsewhere we use what is on site: your cabin, a resort terrace, a lakeshore, a fell trail or a restaurant arranged with the resort.
3. Local partners. We coordinate with the resort and, where needed, a local photographer or operator. You deal only with us.
4. Lead time. Travel and local coordination take more planning, so the earlier you write, the better.

Nothing about the method changes: we plan, prepare quietly, set up while you are on the way, and remove everything afterwards. We never contact your partner.

Which Proposals Travel Best

Levi, Ylläs and Saariselkä: What We Suggest at Each

We are Rovaniemi specialists, so we do not claim detailed knowledge of every hotel in these resorts. What we offer is a method, and this is how it looks at each.

• Levi. A large ski resort with many hotels and cabins. Right Where You Are at your accommodation is the simplest, and a fell-side or forest setting can be built around a short walk from your cabin.
• Ylläs. Fell and forest at the foot of the hills. A styled setting at your cabin or a lakeshore or forest edge, with a photographer.
• Saariselkä. The most northerly of the three, a long drive from Rovaniemi, and a place with a good chance of the northern lights. We suggest planning the proposal for the aurora season and giving yourselves spare nights.

At each, we ask what you have booked, what you love most about the place and how much walking or driving you want to do, and we propose a plan. We also tell you if the resort’s rules, the distance or the season make an idea unwise.

One more point applies to all three. These resorts are further from Rovaniemi than most visitors expect, with drives of a few hours at the longer end, so we agree early who travels, when the flowers leave Rovaniemi and how the timing works if the roads are slow in winter. We would rather add a buffer than rush a set-up.

Pyhä and Kurula's Resort: A Venue We Know

The one resort outside Rovaniemi where we can speak from direct experience is Kurula's Resort in Pyhä. It sits on Lake Pyhäjärvi beside Pyhä-Luosto National Park, under two hours from Rovaniemi Airport, with seventeen lakeside suites, each with its own sauna. We have styled a wedding dinner there, with long tables, white florals and candlelight in the restaurant, and the evening can end at Lohkare, the lakeside sauna.

For a proposal, the lakeshore, the snowy forest of the resort and the restaurant are natural settings, and the resort offers husky safaris, reindeer farm visits, snowmobiling and northern lights hunts. It is open all year, with snow and aurora in winter, midnight sun in summer and colour in September. Transfers are arranged for the couple and guests. If you are staying in Pyhä, this is where we would start.

Northern Lights, Distance and Timing

The further north you go, the better the northern lights odds are likely to be, but cloud still decides. Plan the proposal for a night in the middle of your stay, not the last one, and tell us the dates so we can build in slack. If the plan depends on the sky, we agree an alternative in advance. On timing, think about daylight: in December the day is short, so a late-afternoon proposal is in twilight; in March it is long; in summer the midnight sun gives light all night. Our month-by-month guide covers the seasons.

A Rovaniemi day as an add-on. If you are in Levi or Saariselkä for the slopes but love the idea of the frozen lake, the laavu fire or the Ice Chapel, consider ending or starting the trip in Rovaniemi. Many travellers fly in via Rovaniemi anyway, and a night there before or after the resort lets us use the settings that cannot move. Costs: What to Expect

The signature proposals start from €650, and their prices include planning, coordination, set-up and removal. For a proposal away from Rovaniemi, the main extra is private transport, priced by distance, and possibly a local photographer or other costs we quote with nothing hidden.
