Why Pool Heating Matters on a Lanzarote Winter Holiday

Lanzarote in winter is mild rather than hot. The operator’s weather table averages 18 °C in January and February, 19 °C in March and 20 °C in December, and the sea is roughly 18–22 °C. That is lovely for walking and lunch outdoors, and it is the reason we send winter-sun readers there from the Finnish dark. It is less obviously lovely for a child who wants to spend two hours in an unheated pool.

So pool heating is not a luxury detail in December to March; it decides how much of the holiday happens in the water. The operator is helpfully explicit about how each home’s pool is heated, and we have organised it from warmest to coolest. Prices are the booking engine’s dated snapshots from 23 October 2026 for 2 adults, not fixed rates.

The Short List: Which Pool Is Heated How

According to the operator: Finca de Arrieta and the Palacio estate have solar-heated pools; Casa Lili has a shared solar-heated pool; the Beach House has a solar-heated plunge pool; Villa Las Palmitas and Finca Panorama have electrically heated pools; Casa Pino has a solar pool cover but is not heated; and Villa Ocean Bliss is unheated. Finca Botanica Tao’s own description also calls its private pool unheated.

Solar heating relies on the sun and the operator does not quote a temperature for those pools, so we would treat it as “takes the chill off” rather than “warm every day”. Only the electrically heated pools come with a figure.

Electrically Heated: Villa Las Palmitas and Finca Panorama

The operator says the large 10 m × 5 m pool is heated to an inviting 27 °C or more all year, and there is a hot tub installed in 2024 on the terrace. It is a 6-minute drive to Puerto Calero and 7 to Puerto del Carmen, and the booking engine quoted €2,989 for 10–17 January 2027.

Finca Panorama5% off · code inside in the hillside village of La Asomada sleeps up to 10 adults plus an infant in five bedrooms, and its gated 8 m × 4 m pool is maintained at 25–27 °C with a hot tub next to it. The operator asks guests to keep the solar cover on when nobody is swimming, to hold the temperature. A car is essential; the engine quoted €2,301 for 10–17 January 2027, based on adult occupancy only with extra charges for children aged 3–17.

Solar-Heated: Finca de Arrieta, Palacio, Boutique Beach Villa and More

Every one of the 21 homes at Finca de Arrieta can use the shared 13 m × 2.5 m solar-heated pool, which is open all year. The Eco Luxury Farmhouse5% off · code inside adds its own private solar-heated pool of about 2.5 m × 5 m with a covered chill-out area, quoted at €2,556 for 10–17 January 2027.

The operator warns that the pool is easily reached from the terrace and offers a fence or gate for families with children. Unheated: Casa Pino, Villa Ocean Bliss and Finca Botanica Tao

Casa Pino5% off · code inside in Tabayesco has a 10 m × 4 m private pool with corner steps and a solar cover to retain heat, but it is not heated (€2,361 for 10–17 January 2027, with a child surcharge for ages 3–17). Unheated does not mean useless. In November and March, and certainly in summer, a plunge in a cool pool on a sunny afternoon is exactly what many people want. In January it is more a bracing dip than a swim, and we would not book one for a family whose children live in the water.

Pool Safety With Children

Most of these pools are private and not fenced by default. The operator notes that Villa Palacio’s pool is easily accessible from the terrace and offers a pool fence or gate on request, and describes Finca Panorama’s pool area as gated and safe for families. Whatever you book, ask Lanzarote Retreats about fencing before you arrive if you travel with toddlers or non-swimmers, and plan supervision as you would at home.

Hot Tubs: The Winter Workaround

If the pool is cool, a hot tub can rescue the evening. Villa Las Palmitas, Finca Panorama, Finca Botanica Tao and Villa Palacio all have one, according to the operator. For the Finnish winter-sun crowd, sitting in a hot tub at 19 °C air temperature with the sea in view is a good deal more civilised than the sauna-and-snow routine back in Rovaniemi, though we have to admit we have only read about it.

Which Pool for Which Family

A family with young children who live in the water from breakfast to dinner should lean toward the electrically heated villas, because swimming at 27 °C is a different holiday from a quick dip at the temperature of the air. A family with teenagers who prefer the beach and only want a place to cool off can happily take a solar-heated or unheated pool and spend the savings elsewhere.

Couples and small groups who want a beach on foot rather than a private pool should look at the Finca de Arrieta homes, where the shared pool is a few steps away and Playa de la Garita is 300 metres down the track. And anyone who loves the idea of a very quiet pool should read the Beach House’s rules carefully, because the operator asks guests to keep the pool area and roof terrace quiet after 21:00.

Lastly, think about how you will use the pool. If you plan to be out all day exploring Timanfaya and the César Manrique sites, a heated pool matters mostly for an evening swim. If your plan is a slow week in one place, it matters a great deal more.

We have not swum in any of these pools, so we can only report what the operator says. What it says is clear enough: for a warm January swim, book Villa Las Palmitas or Finca Panorama; for a village-and-beach holiday where the pool is a bonus, Finca de Arrieta’s solar pool is fine; for summer or shoulder-season dips, the unheated villas are good value. Decide what your family does in the water, then choose the home.
