Lanzarote in March: Weather, Rain, Easter Timing and Where to Stay for a Family Week

March is the month the island starts to feel like spring: 19 °C on average, less rain than January, and the winter-sun crowd still around. We pulled the operator’s weather table and real March booking-engine quotes from Lanzarote Retreats to help you decide where to base a family week, and when to book.

Short answer

According to the weather table Lanzarote Retreats publishes on its property pages, Lanzarote in March averages 19 °C with 12 mm of rain, a touch warmer and drier than January and February. It is a good month for a family week at Finca de Arrieta in the north, where the Eco Cabin5% off · code inside was quoted at €1,579 for 7 nights from 7 March 2027. Book early if your dates touch Easter (28 March 2027). Use code HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for stays until 18 December 2026 (Christmas and New Year excluded) or HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY275 for stays from January 2027 — 5% off either way, so a March week falls under the second code.

What March Weather in Lanzarote Is Really Like

The operator’s month-by-month table shows 19 °C on average and 12 mm of rain in March, compared with 18 °C and 16 mm in January and 18 °C and 18 mm in February. That is a small step, but you feel it: it is the first month in which sitting by the pool in the afternoon is a plan rather than an experiment. Lanzarote Retreats quotes an average of 21 °C across December to March on its winter-sun page.

For us in Rovaniemi, March still means snow, so 19 °C reads like an early summer. The operator still advises a fleece or jumper for the evenings and a light waterproof, and we would take both. Lanzarote is also known for trade winds and the occasional calima, a spell of Saharan dust and warm air, so a windbreaker is worth packing. That is general island knowledge, not a forecast for any particular week.

What does that mean for a family? Plan the day around the middle: breakfast outside, the beach or pool from late morning, a cover-up and a hat for the strongest hours, and something warm for when the sun drops. The operator says most homes have no air-conditioning or heating, with temperatures of roughly 18–28 °C year-round, so there is nothing to switch on if an evening turns cool. The yurts are double-lined and naturally insulated, and that is the reason we would still choose one in March with children who feel the cold.

Sea Temperature and Swimming in March

The Atlantic around Lanzarote is roughly 18–20 °C in March, which is brisk; children paddle and braver adults swim, and a wetsuit helps surfers and bodyboarders. That is a general figure, not an operator claim. The shared pool at Finca de Arrieta is 13 m × 2.5 m, solar-heated and open all year, and the operator says Finca de Arrieta and Villa Palacio use solar heating, Casa Lili has a shared solar-heated pool and The Beach House has a solar-heated plunge pool. Villa Las Palmitas and Finca Panorama have electrically heated pools, which matters most in winter if swimming is non-negotiable.

Playa de la Garita, the 810 m golden beach 300 m from the Finca, has calm water according to the operator, and in the north the Atlantic swell can arrive without warning, so check conditions before children go in.

March, Easter and School Holidays

Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027, so Holy Week and many European school breaks fall in the last week of the month and the first days of April. We cannot see Lanzarote Retreats’ occupancy, but a month that includes Easter is when family homes tend to go first, so check the live calendar early if your dates touch it.

Finland and the UK have different school calendars, so check yours before booking. If you can travel the first or second week of March, you get the warm, drier month without the Easter rush. If you must travel at Easter, we would look at a home that sleeps more and can be shared between families, like the Eco Luxury Farmhouse, since a larger home divides the cost.

What a March Week Costs: Real Quotes From the Booking Engine

The booking engine quoted these totals for 7 nights, 7–14 March 2027, for 2 adults, when we checked in October 2026. Children 17 and under stay free at Finca de Arrieta. Prices vary by date and availability, so always check the live calendar.

Compared with the January quotes we found for the same homes, March is a little pricier in the Cabin (€1,579 against €1,336) and the Garden Cottage (€1,298 against €1,163), so a mid-winter week is not always the cheapest. Check several weeks on the live calendar rather than assuming.

Where to Base Yourself in March: North or Costa Teguise

The north-east, at Finca de Arrieta, suits families who want a beach on foot and a quiet village: about 20 km from Arrecife airport, with a 300 m track to Playa de la Garita, a play park, donkeys, chickens and a Monday paella evening, subject to availability. It is off-grid: electricity comes from solar panels with a generator back-up, with no dishwashers, TVs or electric kettles in the homes, and no heating or air-conditioning.

Costa Teguise is a resort with Las Cucharas beach, the Pueblo Marinero square, a Friday market, an aquarium, an aquapark and golf, about 15 minutes from the airport. The Beach House5% off · code inside is 100 m from the beach with a solar-heated plunge pool and, according to the operator, you do not need a car; the Ocean View Penthouse5% off · code inside has a 25 m south-facing terrace 100 m from Las Cucharas, was quoted at €1,715 for 7 nights from 10 January 2027, and sleeps 6 adults plus children. If you want a heated private pool and a hot tub, Villa Las Palmitas5% off · code inside near Puerto Calero was quoted at €3,273 for 7 nights from 7 March 2027 for 2 adults.

A Gentle March Week on the Island

With March’s weather we would plan mornings for the sights and afternoons for the pool. From a base in the north, the operator’s area guides point to the Haría market, Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes and Mirador del Río, sights linked to the artist César Manrique, plus the Teguise Sunday market and the Timanfaya volcanic landscape. We would do one big day out per two days, since March days are not long and children tire quickly.

For a day on the water, La Graciosa is reached by ferry from Órzola. We have not done the crossing and cannot give times or prices, so check the operator’s guide and the ferry company’s current schedule. Check opening times locally before you set off.

Practical Notes: Getting There, Car and Packing

Flights are roughly six hours from Helsinki and about four from the UK (approximate and generic), and the island is two hours behind Finland. Lanzarote Retreats arranges private airport transfers on 48 hours’ notice for Finca de Arrieta, Fisherman’s Cottage, Casa Lili, Palacio, Casa Pino and Boutique Beach Villa; the package includes a complimentary 5-seater car for up to 7 days, and 7-seaters are extra. A car makes sense in the north and a car is not needed in Costa Teguise, according to the operator.

Pack layers, a light waterproof, sun cream, a swimsuit and a torch for the evenings at the Finca. Linen, towels, cleaning, utilities and wifi are included. Check-in is from 16:00 and check-out is by 10:00.

Our Honest Final Word

We have not stayed in these homes, so we can only give you what the operator’s pages and booking engine show. What they show for March is a warm, dry-ish month with spring light, mostly cool seas and a price level a little above January for some homes. The one planning mistake we would avoid is leaving Easter week until the last minute.
