Lanzarote in February: Weather, Sea Temperature and Where to Stay for a Family Winter-Sun Week

February is the month when Finland is at its coldest and Lanzarote is still sitting at about 18 °C. Here is what the operator’s weather table really says, what the sea feels like, which Lanzarote Retreats homes we would book, and what the booking engine quoted for a February week.

Short answer

February in Lanzarote is dry, mild and busy: about 18 °C on average with roughly 18 mm of rain across the month, according to the operator’s weather table. It is a good month for beaches, walks and day trips and a cool one for swimming. Enter code HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for stays until 18 December 2026 (Christmas and New Year excluded) or HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY275 for stays from January 2027 — 5% off either way.

What February Is Really Like

We live in Rovaniemi, where February means deep snow and temperatures that can sit around −20 °C. Lanzarote Retreats publishes a weather table on every property page, and for February it lists an average of 18 °C and about 18 mm of rain, slightly wetter than January’s 16 mm and a touch cooler than March’s 19 °C. The island is the driest of the Canaries, so rain tends to arrive as a short shower rather than a lost day, but it is worth knowing that February is not a guaranteed cloudless month.

Two things to expect from the north-east, where the Finca de Arrieta homes sit. Evenings are cooler than the daytime figure suggests, so the operator’s packing advice of a fleece and a light waterproof for October to March is sensible. And the trade winds can blow, which makes sheltered terraces and walled gardens more valuable than you would think. Occasionally a calima, a spell of Saharan dust and warm air, turns the sky hazy for a day or two.

The Sea, the Beach and the Pool in February

The Atlantic around Lanzarote is cool in winter, roughly 18 to 20 °C as a general rule. Children will happily paddle and splash on a sunny afternoon; most adults will manage a short swim and then want a towel. Playa de la Garita at Arrieta, an 810-metre golden beach with calm water, a beach bar, showers and a play park according to the operator, is a 300-metre track from the Finca homes and is the easiest place to test the water.

The Finca’s own pool is solar-heated and open all year, 13 × 2.5 metres. In February it is pleasant rather than hot, so it works best as a midday swim in sunshine. If a properly warm pool matters to you, the operator lists Villa Las Palmitas and Finca Panorama as electrically heated, and the Finca villas and Palacio as solar-heated, so read the pool details before choosing a home.

North-facing beaches can have a strong Atlantic swell in winter, so look at the flags and the conditions before letting children into the water.

Where to Base Yourselves in February

The simplest decision is north or east coast resort. Arrieta is a village of about 400 people in the Haría municipality, with seafront fish restaurants, a pizzeria, a supermarket and no purpose-built resort. Costa Teguise is the opposite: a resort 15 minutes from the airport with Las Cucharas beach, Pueblo Marinero, a Friday market, an aquarium, an aquapark and golf.

For a quiet week with children who want space, a pool and a beach on foot, we would choose Finca de Arrieta. For a week where you want restaurants, shops and a promenade without a car, the The Beach House5% off · code inside in Costa Teguise has a solar-heated plunge pool and sits about 100 metres from the beach, according to the operator. Its quote for 7 nights from 7 February 2027 was €2,201 for two adults.

Children 17 and under stay free at Finca de Arrieta according to the operator, and the Farmhouse quote did not rise when we added children in our January samples.

Things to Do in February With Children

February suits the island’s sightseeing better than its swimming. From Arrieta, the operator’s area notes point to Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes and the Mirador del Río, all César Manrique-influenced sites in the north, as well as the Haría market and the Teguise Sunday market. The volcanic Timanfaya National Park is a day trip from most bases. Carnival season on the island usually falls in February or early March, but dates move each year, so check the local calendar before planning around it.

The Finca itself keeps younger children busy: a play park, donkeys, chickens and fresh eggs, giant chess and ping-pong, plus a Monday paella evening subject to availability. Whatever you plan, take sun cream: even at 18 °C, the Canary sun burns.

February Compared With January and March

If your dates are flexible, the operator’s table and our samples show a clear pattern. January averages 18 °C with 16 mm of rain, February 18 °C with 18 mm, and March 19 °C with 12 mm, so March is a touch warmer and drier, while the three months are otherwise close. On price, the Eco Luxury Villa5% off · code inside was quoted at €1,656 for 7 nights from 24 January, €2,003 from 7 February and €1,865 from 7 March, so early February was the dearest of the three samples. The Eco Barn5% off · code inside followed the same shape: €1,228 from 24 January, €1,486 from 7 February and €1,384 from 7 March.

The practical reading is that a late-January or March week can be cheaper than the middle of February for the same house, though school half-terms in the UK and other countries lift demand and prices, so the exact week matters more than the month. If you are coming from Finland, the winter holiday weeks fall in February and March, which is when many Finnish families look at the island. We suggest opening the live calendar for two or three alternative weeks before you commit.

One more thing worth knowing is the December cut-off: the first of our two codes ends with stays on 18 December 2026, and February sits firmly in the second window, so you have time, but the best homes for school-holiday weeks tend to go first. Book the home first and worry about the flights straight after, as most families do.

Practical Notes: Time, Travel and Packing

Lanzarote is on UTC+0 in winter, the same as the UK and two hours behind Finland, so there is no jet lag. Flights from Helsinki take roughly six hours and from the UK about four, which are generic figures to confirm with your airline. Arrecife airport is about 20 km from Finca de Arrieta, and the operator can arrange private transfers with a complimentary 5-seater car for up to seven days when you book with 48 hours’ notice.

Pack layers, a fleece, a light waterproof, swimwear, a torch for the off-grid evenings and a hairdryer only if you need one, as the Finca does not supply them as standard. Arrival is from 16:00 and departure is by 10:00, and the minimum stay at the Finca is three nights.
