Why This Budget-Friendly Finca Home Is Easy to Overlook

That arithmetic is what makes it interesting for us. We are a family from Rovaniemi in Finland, and when we plan a winter escape we compare the cost per person per night against what we get. A home that sleeps up to six for about €1,163 in a January week, with children free, is worth a closer look. To be clear about our position: Joona and Alla have not stayed here. What the Cottage Actually Is: A Studio Plus the Buena Vista Bedroom

The operator describes a 40 square metre, environmentally friendly cottage studio set among the gardens of Finca de Arrieta, restored with local stone and wood. The main space is a split-level, open-plan living room, bedroom area and fully fitted kitchen. The sleeping area has a super king-size bed, and the double sofa bed in the lounge sleeps 2 extra adults or 2 children. There is a shower room and toilet.

The Buena Vista bedroom is the cosy extra. Per the operator, it has a single bed or sofa that can be made into a double, or a child bed can be added to give two singles. In practice, we read the layout like this:

• Two adults and two children: adults in the super king bed, children on the lounge double sofa bed, Buena Vista left free for a teenager or a grandparent.
• Four adults: one couple in the super king, another couple on the lounge sofa bed or one adult in the Buena Vista bedroom, depending on who is comfortable with what.
• Four adults and two children: the maximum, which means a proper squeeze and a plan for who sleeps where.

It is a 40 m² home, not a villa, and the operator is honest that it is ideal for a couple or a family. We would call it a base for people who spend the day outside.

The Walled Garden, Kitchen and Terrace

The outdoor space is where the cottage justifies itself. The operator mentions a private walled and gated garden with wooden sun loungers, a barbecue and dining furniture for four, plus uninterrupted sea and mountain views from the terrace. A gated garden matters with small children and is the kind of detail we look for when we read these pages.

Inside you have your own kitchen, and the operator also lists a further covered kitchen and lounge in the pool and chill-out area nearby, with free wifi. The cottage itself has free fibre-optic wifi according to the operator, and a Bluetooth speaker. Beach towels are provided, one per person. The operator’s FAQ says each property has its own gas water heater for hot water.

One thing to know before you book: Finca de Arrieta is off-grid and runs on solar panels with a generator as back-up. The operator says there are no dishwashers, TVs, electric kettles or irons in the Finca homes to save energy, and a hairdryer is available on request. If you picture an evening of streaming, this is not the house. If you picture a barbecue under the stars with the children asleep, it is.

The Pool, the Beach and the Village

Guests of the cottage share the Finca’s solar-heated pool, 13 metres by 2.5 metres and open all year according to the operator. In winter that matters, because the sea in Lanzarote is roughly 18–22 °C, which is bracing rather than warm. The Finca also has a children’s play park, giant chess, ping-pong, donkeys, chickens and fresh eggs from the hen-house, a 24/7 honesty shop, and a Monday paella evening subject to availability.

A track runs 300 metres down to Playa de la Garita, the 810 metre golden beach that the operator describes as having calm water, a beach bar, showers and a play park. Arrieta itself is a fishing village of about 400 people in the Haría municipality, with seafront fish restaurants, a pizzeria and a supermarket. It is peaceful: there are no neon bars or nightclubs, which is exactly why we would choose it.

The airport at Arrecife is 20 km away. The operator can arrange private transfers with 48 hours’ notice, and the package includes a complimentary 5-seater car for up to 7 days, which for a family wanting to reach Haría market or Jameos del Agua is useful. Ask for a quote because the price depends on group size and dates.

What a Week Costs: Real Booking-Engine Quotes

These are quotes, not fixed rates. We checked the operator’s booking engine on 23 October 2026 for 7-night stays and 2 adults, and prices depend on dates and guests, so the live calendar is the truth.

Two details stand out. First, the 10–17 January quote stayed at €1,163 when we searched for 2 adults plus 2 children and again for 4 adults plus 2 children, which fits the operator’s statement that children 17 and under go free at Finca de Arrieta. Second, November is clearly the bargain: the 15–22 November quote was about 23% lower than the January one. For a family with flexible dates, shifting the trip a few weeks changes the total more than any discount code. The 5% reader discount still applies on top, and the operator’s price on the property page is the normal one.

Garden Cottage vs Eco Tower, Eco Barn and Eco Cabin

Which small Finca home is right depends on who is travelling. Using only the operator’s data and our 10–17 January 2027 quotes for 2 adults:

The Garden Cottage and the Barn cost almost the same for the week, so the question is layout. The Barn has two proper bedrooms and suits two adults with up to three children; the cottage has more flexibility for extra adults. The Eco Cabin has two bedrooms and also sleeps 4 adults plus 2 children, for roughly €173 more than the cottage in that week. If you are two adults who want romance and a lower bill, the Tower is the cheaper pick; for a family of four who sleep close together, the Garden Cottage is the value choice.

Who Should Skip It

We want to be as useful as possible, so here are the cases where we would look elsewhere. If you need a second bathroom or two real bedrooms for older children, the Barn, Cabin or Eco Luxury Villa fits better. If you want a private pool, the Eco Luxury Farmhouse has one while the cottage shares the Finca pool. If you want air-conditioning, the operator says Lanzarote does not need it and only Arrecife Sands has it. And if you travel with several suitcases and a stroller, a 40 m² studio will feel full with four adults.

For everyone else — a couple with one or two children, a family of four who live outdoors, grandparents joining for the week — the cottage is the sensible, honest choice at the Finca. Pack a fleece for the evenings and a light waterproof; the operator’s advice for October to March.
