Greece is a classic campervan destination on paper: sea views, ancient ruins, small harbours and a long season. In practice, the market is smaller than in Spain or Portugal, with few rental companies, mostly handing over vans in Athens. That makes prices worth understanding before you book, because a couple of choices change the total a lot.

This is a pricing guide, not a trip report. All the numbers come from the CampervanPlanet Greece campervan hire cost page, updated on 28 October 2026, which analyses 626 live prices for 47 vehicles from three rental companies. We have kept to what the page shows.

Our our campervan rental guide covers hiring basics for any country.

Short Answer

A campervan in Greece typically costs about €147 a day from November to March and €205 a day from June to August, which is 39 per cent more in summer. The cheapest offer in the search was €83 a day. A typical 7-night rental is about €1,031 in winter and €1,435 in summer. See current prices here, and code HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY20 takes €20 off at checkout.

The price by season

The page reports typical daily prices of €147 from November to March and €205 from June to August. In week terms, a typical 7-night rental costs about €1,031 from November to March, €1,200 in April and May, €1,270 in September and October and €1,435 from June to August. Those are medians for the search, not guarantees.

The cheapest offer was €83 a day, a California Standard (automatic) from Indie Campers picked up in February. That is useful as a floor: you can find cheap vans in the off-season, but you should not expect that price in July.

If your dates are flexible, April, May, September and October offer the best trade-off. Greece in those months is warm, the sea is swimmable in autumn and the sites are quieter than in August.

Three companies, three approaches

The page compares three rental companies. Indie Campers had the lowest typical base price at about €101 a day. The page notes that it is the only one selling cover that lowers the excess to zero, at about €40 a day, while another company, Luna Trips, leaves a €500 excess. The third company is also included in the data.

These details show why the daily rate is only part of the story. A van with a low base rate but a high excess or expensive cover can cost more than a pricier van with better protection. Always check the total, including insurance, on the dates you want.

In Greece, the cheapest van is not always the cheapest trip. Check excess and cover before you decide.

Pick-up and drop-off

The page says 85 per cent of offers are at Athens: all three companies hand over vans there, and only one offered pick-up at Heraklion in Crete in the search. That matters if you plan an island trip. Crete requires a ferry from the mainland, and many rental contracts restrict taking the van on ferries, so check the terms before you plan.

For an Athens start, you can explore Attica, the Peloponnese, Delphi and Meteora on the mainland. The Athens campervan page lists pick-up options, and the Crete page covers Heraklion and Chania. If you want to understand Greek geography for a van, ferries and mountain roads shape every itinerary.

Vehicle choice: automatic or manual

Only about 26 per cent of the 47 vehicles in the search are automatic. If you prefer an automatic, you will have fewer options, and prices may be higher or availability lower in summer. Book early if this matters to you.

The page also breaks vehicles down by daily budget. In the data, no vehicle had a typical summer price under €100 a day, while four had winter prices in that range. That is a good illustration of how the season changes what you can afford.

What else adds to the cost

Beyond the daily rate, consider insurance cover, a one-way fee, bedding and kitchen kits, a second driver and campsite fees. Greek fuel prices are not cheap, and tolls on the main motorways add up. Ferries to islands charge by vehicle length, and campervans are among the more expensive categories.

Wild camping is restricted in Greece, and the rules vary by area. Many coastal zones and archaeological sites prohibit overnight parking, and fines can be heavy. Plan to use campsites and designated areas, and check local rules. We cover budgeting in a similar way in our real cost of a Nordic road trip, because the structure of fuel, camping, food and extras is the same.

How to save money

Travel in the shoulder season. Choose a smaller van if you are two people. Compare rental companies on the same dates, including insurance. Avoid one-way hires unless you need them. And use a discount code: HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY20 takes €20 off your booking at checkout on CampervanPlanet.

We discuss the trade-offs of long trips in why longer trips beat luxury ones, and a longer Greek trip in the shoulder season is often cheaper per day than a short peak-season week.

Booking tips

Check the excess and the cover options, the deposit, the mileage allowance and whether you can take the van on ferries. Confirm pick-up and drop-off times in Athens. Ask about the age and condition of the vehicle. Compare more than one offer for your dates.
