This guide is built from Iglu-Dorf’s own pages, prices and conditions — what is included, how the villages work and what each igloo is like come straight from the operator, never invented.
The best igloo village in Switzerland depends on you: Zermatt for the Matterhorn setting, Davos Klosters for the biggest village and the highest-feeling night, Gstaad for the easiest journey, families with younger children and the heated TinyLodge. The short comparison
All three villages are run by Iglu-Dorf and share the same programme: welcome drink, igloo tour, all-you-can-eat cheese fondue, whirlpool and sauna, a night walk or snowshoe trek, an expedition sleeping bag, morning tea and breakfast. What changes is the altitude, the scenery and how you get up there.

| Davos Klosters | Gstaad | Zermatt | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Altitude (about) | 2,500 m | 1,900 m | 2,700 m |
| Overnight igloos | 14 (up to 46 guests) | 10 (up to 40 guests) | 10 (up to 24 guests) |
| Setting | Below Weissfluhjoch, Parsenn area | Below Saanerslochgrat | Below Rotenboden, Gornergrat line |
| Opens | 26 Dec 2026 | 25 Dec 2026 | 19 Dec 2026 |
| Family & Friends | up to 6 | up to 6 | up to 4, by phone or e-mail |
| Extra | — | TinyLodge cabin | — |
Altitudes come from Iglu-Dorf’s FAQ; its village pages show slightly different figures, so read them as “about”.
Zermatt: the postcard village
Zermatt’s igloos sit just below Rotenboden on the Gornergrat railway, with the Matterhorn above them. It is the smallest village — ten overnight igloos — and the highest. Meeting is at Rotenboden station at 4:30 pm; the train leaves Zermatt around 4:00 pm and takes about 30 minutes. Zermatt itself is car-free, so drivers park at Täsch and take the train. The day walk from the lift to the igloos is about 20 minutes, and the next morning breakfast is at Hotel Riffelhaus, roughly a 15-minute walk downhill.
Choose it if the view is the point. Our deeper write-up is in Sleep in an Igloo in Zermatt. Book Romantic Igloo — Zermatt5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for two; the Family & Friends Igloo here sleeps up to four and is currently arranged by phone or e-mail.
Davos Klosters: the biggest village
Davos Klosters has fourteen overnight igloos and the most guests, so it has the liveliest evening: a snow-carved restaurant, a wooden kota with an open fire and an outdoor hot tub sunk into the snow. Night guests meet at Panoramarestaurant Weissfluhjoch at 4:00 pm after the Parsennbahn (changing at the Höhenweg middle station); breakfast is at the mountain restaurant from 8:30 am. Iglu-Dorf’s FAQ lists no running water or showers here, so pack accordingly.

Choose it for a social night, for a group, or if you are already skiing the Parsenn. Start with Romantic Igloo — Davos Klosters5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 or Family & Friends Igloo — Davos Klosters5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5. We cover it in our Davos Klosters guide.
Gstaad: the easiest and the only one with a cabin
Gstaad is the lowest village, which Iglu-Dorf itself suggests for families with children under 6 or for pregnant guests. Check-in is at 4:30 pm at a bar in the village with an aperitif, then a train to Saanenmöser and the cable car up to Saanerslochgrat; the walk from the lift is about five to seven minutes. The FAQ lists running water and showers at Gstaad.
It is also the only village with the TinyLodge, a heated wooden cabin for two, so couples who want the village but a warm bed have a way in: TinyLodge — Gstaad5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5. More in our Gstaad guide. For three or more, Family & Friends Igloo — Gstaad5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 takes up to six.

Iglu-Dorf — Davos Klosters, Gstaad & Zermatt

Which village for which traveller
- Couples who want the view: Zermatt.
- Couples who want warmth and an easier journey: Gstaad TinyLodge.
- Friends or family with older kids (6 and up): Davos Klosters or Gstaad for the larger Family & Friends Igloo.
- Families with younger children: Gstaad, per Iglu-Dorf’s own advice, though under 6 it recommends waiting.
- Skiers: pick the village on the mountain you will ski — Parsenn, Saanerslochgrat or Gornergrat.
Prices: the same everywhere
As published in November 2026: Romantic Igloo from CHF 538 per night for two in all three villages; Family & Friends Igloo from CHF 627 per night for three people, additional guests charged separately; TinyLodge from CHF 438 per night for two. Because price is identical, you choose on mountain, not budget. Cableway or train tickets are not included, nor is visitor’s tax, so add those to your plan.
Dates: what Sunday to Thursday means in practice
Our code covers stays from 4 January to 4 April 2027, Sunday to Thursday nights only. After 3 January, Iglu-Dorf lists the Davos and Zermatt hotels as closed Monday to Wednesday and Gstaad as closed Tuesday and Wednesday. In practice that means Sunday and Thursday nights (Gstaad also Monday) — the live calendar on iglu-dorf.com shows exactly which nights are open. Friday and Saturday nights are not covered by the code, and they book out first.
How to book your igloo night with HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5
Once you have picked a village, booking takes about five minutes. There are no special links or tracking cookies in this partnership. The code typed at checkout is the only thing that gives you the 5% and registers the booking as ours, so this is the one step not to skip.
- Choose village and igloo. Use the links in this guide, or start at Iglu-Dorf5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 and pick Davos Klosters, Gstaad or Zermatt, then Romantic Igloo, Family & Friends Igloo or (Gstaad only) TinyLodge.
- Add your guests first (adults 16+, teenagers 10–15, children up to 9) — the date calendar only appears after that. Pick a Sunday-to-Thursday night between 4 January and 4 April 2027. In practice that means Sunday and Thursday nights (Gstaad also Monday) — the live calendar on iglu-dorf.com shows exactly which nights are open.
- Fill in guest details and extras — single sleeping bags instead of a double, a dog, the vegetarian dinner alternative, a rose in ice.
- Scroll to “Promo-Code — Do you want to redeem a promo code?”, type HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5, press Add and check that the total has dropped by 5% before you confirm. The field above it, “Voucher”, is for gift vouchers, not for our code.
- Confirm. You can cancel free of charge up to 60 days before the night; after that Iglu-Dorf charges 10% (59–30 days), 50% (29–7 days) and 100% (under 7 days or no-show), with refunds preferably as vouchers. Discounts are not cumulative.
For the Zermatt Family & Friends Igloo, send the request to info@iglu-dorf.com or call +41 41 612 27 28 and write the code in your message. Full transparency: we are Iglu-Dorf’s affiliate partner and earn a small commission when you book with our code. It costs you nothing extra — you pay 5% less.
Our pick, and who should look elsewhere
If we had to book one tomorrow for two, we would pick Zermatt for the view and Gstaad if the heated cabin appealed. For friends, Davos Klosters. If you need a private bathroom, a lie-in in a warm room or you only travel on Fridays and Saturdays, an igloo night with our code is not for you. See our full Iglu-Dorf igloo guide for the general picture.
FAQ
Which Iglu-Dorf village is the most beautiful?
Zermatt is the one with the Matterhorn view. Davos Klosters and Gstaad have their own mountain settings, and what you see on the day depends on weather and snow, which no one can promise.
Which village is cheapest?
As published in November 2026, the Romantic Igloo starts from CHF 538 per night in all three villages, so price is not a reason to choose one over another.
Which is best for families?
Gstaad is the lowest and the one Iglu-Dorf recommends for younger children, and Davos Klosters and Gstaad both sleep up to six in the Family & Friends Igloo. Iglu-Dorf recommends overnight stays from age 6.
Does the 5% code work in all three?
Yes: HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 covers the Romantic and Family & Friends igloos in Davos Klosters, Gstaad and Zermatt and the TinyLodge in Gstaad, for stays from 4 January to 4 April 2027, Sunday to Thursday nights.
Is Innsbruck or Zugspitze included?
Iglu-Dorf also runs villages in Innsbruck Kühtai and on the Zugspitze, but they are not part of our code.
Our Honest Final Word
There is no wrong village, only a wrong match: Zermatt if the Matterhorn matters most, Gstaad for ease and warmth, Davos Klosters for the biggest night. Check the live calendar, because the open nights decide more than the scenery does.
