This guide is built from our own winters in the Arctic and from the live Legendary Adventure tour pages in Tromsø — prices, pickup times and what is included come straight from the operator, never invented.

Two Very Different Animal Days
When families plan a winter trip to Tromsø, two things come up quickly: huskies and reindeer. Children want to meet the animals, parents want something special, and both Legendary Adventure private tours promise exactly that. But they are not interchangeable. One is about movement, the other about meeting and culture.
We live in Rovaniemi, where reindeer and husky farms are part of everyday winter life, so we have a feel for how different the two experiences are in Lapland. The details in this post, however, come from the operator’s tour pages for Tromsø, not from our having done these tours, and we will say so whenever we are guessing.
Both tours are private, which means the vehicle, guide and schedule belong to your group only. That is the reason for the prices: they are per group, not per person, and they are high.
Side by Side: Price, Hours, Ages and Inclusions
| Private Reindeer Farm Visit | Private Dog Sledding | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | NOK 35,000 per group | NOK 95,000 per group |
| Duration | 6–7 hours | 5–6 hours |
| Ages | All ages | Ages 7+ |
| Pickup | 08:30, place chosen at checkout | 08:45, place chosen at checkout |
| Group | 2–8 guests plus guide/driver | 2–8 guests plus guide/driver |
| Included | Mercedes minivan transport, snowshoe rental, Sámi lunch and coffee | Guide/musher, transport, winter suit and snow boots, hot drinks |
| Season | Winter | Winter |
Both tours start early, so plan for a morning departure and a full day. You can choose your pickup location at checkout, which suits families staying outside the centre.

What the Price Means Per Person
Because both tours are priced per group, the cost per person depends entirely on how many of you there are. Here is the maths before any discount, using the operator’s listed prices.
| Guests | Reindeer visit (NOK 35,000) | Husky experience (NOK 95,000) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | NOK 17,500 pp | NOK 47,500 pp |
| 4 | NOK 8,750 pp | NOK 23,750 pp |
| 6 | NOK 5,833 pp | NOK 15,833 pp |
| 8 | NOK 4,375 pp | NOK 11,875 pp |
The pattern is clear. For a couple, both tours are very expensive per head. For a group of six to eight, the reindeer visit approaches the price of a shared day tour with lunch, while the husky experience stays a premium purchase. If you are only two or three people, we would think hard before choosing either, and look at the cheaper shared tours first.
The 5% reader discount reduces both totals, but it does not change the pattern: on NOK 35,000 it saves NOK 1,750, on NOK 95,000 it saves NOK 4,750.
The Reindeer Farm Visit: Calm, Cultural and Child-Friendly
The Private Reindeer Farm Visit with Reindeer Feeding & Sámi Culture5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is the gentler option. According to the operator, the day includes reindeer feeding, Sámi culture, a Sámi lunch and coffee, snowshoe rental and transport in a Mercedes minivan. It runs 6–7 hours and welcomes all ages, which is the main reason to choose it for toddlers and young children.

We would treat it as a culture-first day. Reindeer are central to Sámi life and heritage, and a visit like this is a way to learn about it from people who live it. For families with different ages in the group, including grandparents, it is flexible: you can feed the reindeer, listen, eat and rest at your own pace, and the snowshoes are there if the group fancies a short walk.
The price is NOK 35,000 per group. For four guests that is NOK 8,750 each, and for six guests NOK 5,833 each, which makes it a considerable but not outrageous family day out compared with the sled option.

The Private Dog Sledding – Husky Experience5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is the headline activity. The operator lists a local guide and musher, transport to and from the activity, a winter suit and snow boots, and hot drinks, for 5–6 hours. It is recommended for ages 7 and over.

The price is NOK 95,000 per group, which is a lot, and we want to be clear about why: it is a private day with a musher, a guide and transport for a group of up to eight. For eight guests, it is roughly NOK 11,875 each; for four it is NOK 23,750 each. That puts it firmly in the splurge category, a trip highlight rather than a casual add-on.
If dog sledding is a dream for someone in your group, the cost can be worth it. If it is simply one of several animal ideas, the reindeer visit offers more days of value for far less money.
Which Is Better for Your Group?
Here is how we would choose.
- Children under 7 in the group: the reindeer visit, since the husky tour is for ages 7 and up.
- Grandparents or mixed fitness: the reindeer visit, with its flexible pace and included lunch.
- Teenagers and adventurous adults: the husky experience, if the budget allows.
- Culture interest: the reindeer visit, with its Sámi element.
- Tightest budget: neither; look at the next section.
A third option is to do neither private tour and choose a daytime shared tour, such as the Arctic Snowshoe Hike5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 at NOK 1,500 per person, for a first taste of the Arctic landscape, then add an evening aurora tour.
What a Full Day Looks Like
Both private tours are long days that start early: pickup at 08:30 for the reindeer visit and 08:45 for the husky experience, at a location you choose at checkout. That has consequences for the rest of your trip.
- The night before: do not combine either tour with a late aurora chase the evening before. A chase can bring you back after midnight, and an 08:30 pickup the next morning is tiring.
- Breakfast: eat before you leave. The reindeer visit includes a Sámi lunch and coffee, and the husky tour includes hot drinks, but neither is listed as a breakfast.
- Clothing: the husky experience includes a winter suit and snow boots; the reindeer visit does not list them, so bring proper winter clothing, good boots, a hat and gloves.
- Children: bring a snack, a change of mittens and patience; long days in the cold are demanding for young ones, which is why the all-ages reindeer day suits families better.
After the day, an evening with no plans is the right call. If you want an aurora tour in the same trip, book it for a different night, and keep the private day for the middle of your stay when you are rested.
Finally, think about the weather. Winter conditions in northern Norway can change a plan at short notice, so keep a spare day in your schedule, check the operator’s terms for weather changes and talk to them if the forecast looks severe.
A Lower-Cost Sámi Option
If the numbers above are too high, Legendary Adventure also offers the Spiritual Sámi Culture Experience5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 at NOK 17,500 per group, ages 7 and up recommended, lasting 4 hours with a 10:00 pickup. The Spiritual Sami Experience with chance of Northern Lights5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is NOK 22,500 per group for 4 hours and adds a chance of aurora. These are private too, and they focus on Sámi culture rather than animals.

We list them for completeness, but we cannot describe their content beyond the operator’s titles, so check the tour pages for details before you decide.
How to Book with 5% Off
