Why One Price Table Beats Twelve Browser Tabs

Bikes ‘n Wines runs twelve different tours across Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Cape Town, and the names do not make the differences obvious. A half-day tour, a meander, a luxury e-bike day and a peninsula ride can all sound like ‘a bike tour in the Winelands’ until you compare what they cost and what you get. We have gone through the live tour pages from the operator and put every price, duration, distance and age rule in one place, so that you can pick the right tour before you open a single booking page.

All prices below are the ‘from’ prices per person shown on the operator’s tour pages in autumn 2026, in South African rand. The rand moves, so when we give a euro figure it is only ‘very roughly’ — think €55 for the cheapest tour and €150 for the most expensive Winelands day at the time of writing. The live page always has the final word, and dates and availability are shown there.

Two details are worth noticing straight away. First, the two cheapest tours cost the same R1,150, but one is built for families of any age and the other is for adults and teenagers from 16. Second, the e-bike tours ask riders to be at least 155 cm (5 ft 2 in) tall, which matters if you are planning for a smaller teenager.

The R1,150 to R1,695 Group: Half-Day Tours

This is where most first-time visitors should look. Every half-day tour covers about 15 km, visits two wine estates and finishes by lunchtime, so you still have the afternoon free. Lunch is for your own account on all of them, and the operator lists a bottle of water and a light snack as included.

In Stellenbosch the choice is between the mountain-bike tour at R1,150 and the Stellenbosch Half Day Winelands EBike Tour5% off via our link at R1,395 — the difference is R245 per person for pedal assistance and a lower 2 out of 5 difficulty rating. Both can start at 10:00 or 13:30, and the estates are listed as Skilpadvlei, Neethlingshof or Vredenheim, subject to change on the day. In Franschhoek the mountain-bike tour is R1,450 and the e-bike version R1,695, with La Bri, Rickety Bridge and Grande Provence as the listed stops. Franschhoek is the gentler region: its e-bike tour carries the lowest difficulty rating of the whole range, 1 out of 5.

If you are weighing the two Stellenbosch options against each other, we compared them in more detail in our e-bike versus mountain bike guide.

The Full-Day Meanders: R1,450 and R1,645

The meander tours are the middle of the range: full days from 10:00 to 16:00, three estates rather than two, on regular bikes. The Stellenbosch Vineyard Meander Cycle Tour5% off via our link costs R1,450 and is rated 4 out of 5, the hardest Winelands tour on the list, so it suits people who cycle regularly. The Franschhoek Winelands Meander Cycle Tour5% off via our link costs R1,645, covers about 20 km and is rated 3 out of 5. Lunch is for your own account on both, so budget for it on top of the tour price.

Our rule of thumb: if you want a full day but do not want the e-bike or the platter lunch, the meander is the value pick; if fitness is a worry, step up to a luxury e-bike tour instead of risking a 4 out of 5 ride in summer heat.

The Luxury E-Bike Days: R2,295 and R2,795

The two luxury tours are the premium end of the Winelands range. Both run 10:00 to 16:00 on e-bikes and are listed as subject to availability when you book online. The Stellenbosch Luxury Winelands EBike Tour5% off via our link at R2,295 covers 15–20 km and includes a cheese platter lunch, with five possible estates named on the tour page (Skilpadvlei, Neethlingshof, Vredenheim, Boschkloof and Van Ryn’s). The Franschhoek Luxury Winelands EBike Tour5% off via our link at R2,795 covers about 20 km, lists food pairings and a platter, and names six possible stops including Glenwood Estate, Backsberg and Pigcasso.

Because lunch is built into the price, the real gap against a half-day tour plus your own lunch is smaller than the headline numbers suggest. We went through that arithmetic in our guides to the Stellenbosch luxury tour and the Stellenbosch versus Franschhoek comparison.

The Two City and Peninsula Tours

Two tours leave the vineyards behind. The Discover Cape Town Inner City Cycle Tour5% off via our link is a 12 km half day at R1,395, rated 2 out of 5, with stops listed as Green Point Park, the Mouille Point Promenade, the V&A Waterfront, St George’s Mall, the Company’s Garden and Bo-Kaap. It starts at 10:00, finishes at 13:30 and is self-drive only.

The Cape Peninsula Pedal Road Cycle Tour5% off via our link is a different animal: R3,095, 50–90 km, a 5 out of 5 difficulty rating, 08:30 to 16:30, with transfers included from central Cape Town, a platter and wine tasting, and stops at Boulders Beach and the Cape Point Nature Reserve. It is for strong, regular riders, and it is the only tour in the range that includes a transfer from the city.

What the Price Includes (and What It Does Not)

Across the range the operator lists the same core inclusions: a fully guided tour, bike and helmet rental, bottled water and a light snack, and the wine tastings at the estates on the route. On the family tours that extends to child seats, baby buggies or children’s bikes and non-alcoholic tastings and pairings for the children.

  • Not included on any tour: gratuities for the guides and any wine you buy on the day.
  • Lunch: for your own account on every half-day tour and on both meander tours; included on the luxury tours (cheese platter in Stellenbosch, food pairings and platter in Franschhoek) and the peninsula tour (platter and wine tasting).
  • Transfers: most Winelands tours are self-drive only; the Cape Peninsula tour includes transfers from central Cape Town. The luxury and meander tours show transfers as bookable online, subject to availability.
  • Minimum group: two guests for a departure, with private tours available for a supplement. Solo travellers can join an existing booking or book two seats.

Cancellation terms, according to the operator, are 90% refund more than 72 hours ahead, 50% inside 72 hours, nothing inside 48 hours, and a full refund if the operator cancels for weather. Check the operator’s terms and conditions when you book.

What is the most expensive Winelands tour?

The Franschhoek Luxury Winelands EBike Tour at R2,795 per person is the highest-priced Winelands tour. The Cape Peninsula Pedal Road Cycle Tour is higher at R3,095, but it is a 50 to 90 km ride for strong cyclists rather than a Winelands day.

Yes. The operator’s e-bikes require riders to be at least 155 cm (5 ft 2 in) tall, so check heights before choosing an e-bike tour for teenagers.

Our Honest Final Word

We have not ridden these tours ourselves — we live in Rovaniemi and send readers to them after reading every page the operator publishes. What the table shows is that the range is better value than the names suggest: R1,150 buys a guided half day with two estates and all equipment, and even the luxury days include lunch. The things to plan around are the 16+ rule on everything except the two family tours, the 155 cm e-bike limit, and the sell-out dates around Christmas.
