Booking a Christmas or New Year Proposal in Rovaniemi: How Late Is Too Late (It Is November)?

If you are reading this in November and have just decided to propose in Rovaniemi over Christmas or New Year, you are not too late to write to us, but you are close to the point where dates start to disappear. We are Joona and Alla, and through our own company, Rovaniemi Weddings, we plan these proposals. Here is what is still possible, what to send us first and what we cannot promise.

Short answer

It is not too late to write to us in November, but do it this week rather than next. The honest answer: we cannot promise that a specific Christmas or New Year date is still free until we have checked it, and we reply within one business day. The earlier the better, but last-minute proposals are happily taken if the date is available. Send us your dates (with a second choice), the number of nights you are staying, where you are staying, your rough budget and a few lines about your partner. A flexible option like Yes Under the Aurora (from €1,500), The Fireside Proposal or Right Where You Are (from €650) tends to be easiest to fit; the Ice Chapel and the frozen lake are possible from mid-December. Start on the Contact Rovaniemi Weddings page, or compare all ten Proposals in Lapland first.

So, Is It Too Late?

Short version: no, but the margin is shrinking, and we want to be straightforward about it. Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, which means we have an interest in telling you yes. We would rather tell you the truth, which is that it depends on the date.

What we know from running proposals here: Christmas and New Year are the weeks people ask about most, and the nearer the date, the likelier it is that the evening you have in mind is already taken. That is why our general advice on every proposal is “the earlier the better”. The same advice has a second half: last-minute proposals are happily taken too, if the date is free.

So there is no deadline we can name for you, and we will not invent one. What we can tell you is that three to four weeks before your trip is a very different conversation from three to four months, and that in November you are still comfortably in the first category for most options.

What We Can and Cannot Promise

Here is what we can say with confidence:

Our Yes Under the Aurora proposal, photographed by the guide, far from the city lights.

  • We reply within one business day, and we tell you plainly if a date is not available.
  • Our quote comes with the date held, and every price includes planning, coordination, set-up and removal.
  • We communicate only with you and never contact your partner.

And here is what we cannot say:

  • We cannot promise a particular date, especially Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve, before we have checked.
  • We cannot promise the northern lights. They are possible from late August to April and December is a good time, but cloud decides. That is why we suggest proposing on the second night of your stay, so the next nights remain a safety net.
  • We cannot promise that a hotel will agree to a room set-up. Right Where You Are and A Thousand Petals need the property’s agreement, and we talk to the property only if you ask us to.

We would rather you hear this now than on the day. A late yes from us is a real yes, and a no comes with alternatives, so you are never left guessing.

It also helps to remember what is not affected by lead time. The bouquet of 30 roses, the sparkling wine and the photographer are part of nearly every option, and the planning and set-up are our job, not yours. The thing that is limited is the number of evenings on which we can be in two places at once, and that is why the date matters more than anything else you send us.

What Is Still Possible, Option by Option

Every price is a “from” price and includes planning, coordination, set-up and removal.

ProposalFromChristmas / New Year?How flexible
Yes Under the Aurora€1,500Aurora season runs late August to AprilGuide picks the spot on the night; a reserve night helps
The Fireside Proposal€1,400All year, reindeer to feed in winterPrivate land, timing agreed together
On the Frozen Lake€1,400December to March, once the ice is safeStyled for the time of day you choose
A Promise in the Ice Chapel€1,800Bookable from mid-December to end of MarchDepends on chapel access on the day
Dinner in the Glass Dome€1,450All yearReservations are limited to keep it private
Right Where You Are€650All yearNeeds the property’s agreement
A Thousand Petals€700All yearSetup within 30 km of Rovaniemi included

If you have to choose, the two options that make the late-booking conversation simplest are the ones that rely on the fewest outside parties: the fireside laavu on private land and a styled setting at the place you already booked. The dome dinner and the chapel involve a venue, so they depend on that venue’s availability on your date, which we confirm for you.

What to Send Us First

The faster we have the basics, the faster you get a real answer. In your first message, tell us:

  1. Your dates, with a first and second choice, and how many nights you are staying.
  2. Where you are staying in Rovaniemi or elsewhere, and how you are getting around. Transport is included in some options and priced by distance in others.
  3. Your rough budget. Prices run from €650 to €2,700, and a clear budget lets us suggest the right fit.
  4. The story. How you met, what matters to your partner, what they would hate (crowds, a stage, cold hands), how you want it to feel.
  5. Anything fixed in your trip, such as a husky safari or a Santa Claus Village visit, so we can plan around it.
  6. How we should reach you without your partner noticing, including a safe email or messaging channel.

Use the Contact Rovaniemi Weddings page. We reply within one business day and suggest the option that fits or shape a custom one, including a proposal around a private husky safari, snowmobile tour or reindeer-farm visit.

What Happens After You Write

The timeline looks like this, and it can be compressed if your trip is close:

  1. Within one business day: our reply, usually with questions.
  2. Within a few days: option and quote. One clear quote with nothing hidden, and the date held.
  3. The days before: quiet preparation. Flowers, candles, photographer, transport, sparkling wine and the weather plan confirmed.
  4. The hour: the moment. We set up while you are on your way and step out of sight.

The steps are the same as for an early booking, only closer together. None of them is a hurdle for you: your job is to reply to us and pack the ring. If you hear nothing from us within a business day, check your spam folder and write again.

For comparison, a full wedding needs far longer. Our wedding pages suggest 8–12 months ahead for December, and Finnish paperwork takes about seven working days plus translation time. If your plan is a proposal now and a wedding later, our Christmas Wedding in Lapland page explains how the season works.

Keeping It a Secret When You Book Late

A late booking does not make it harder to keep a secret; if anything, there are fewer weeks in which your partner can stumble on something. We communicate only with you, on the channel you choose, and never contact your partner, your friends or the venue unless you ask. Everything is prepared before you arrive and removed after you leave.

Your part: choose a cover story that is also true. A private northern lights tour, a dinner in a glass dome, a visit to the snow hotel. Keep the ring in your hand luggage and on you on the day, and do not put it in a hotel safe. Christmas is full of surprises anyway, so “I have booked something for the evening” will not raise an eyebrow.

What to Wear, and a Few Practical Notes for the Holiday Weeks

Dress as you would for a long winter walk: wool base layer, warm mid layer, insulated outer layer, mittens, hat and insulated boots. Our Lapland winter packing guide has the full list, and our guide to Lapland in December tells you what the month feels like.

Practical notes for the holiday weeks. The sun is below the horizon around Christmas, so plan for soft twilight, candles and dark sky rather than daylight. Christmas Day and Boxing Day are public holidays in Finland, so check opening times for restaurants and tours directly. And because the Ice Chapel at the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos is carved fresh each winter, we confirm with the venue that it is ready for your date rather than assuming.

If Your Date Is Not Available

Sometimes the answer is no for a specific evening. Then we look at alternatives with you: a different day in the same trip, a different time of day, or a different option. A frozen lake in the blue hour can replace an evening slot, and a styled setting at your accommodation can replace a venue. If your dates really are fixed and nothing works, we will say so, and you can still celebrate; you may find a later date, perhaps in January or February, easier. In the end the proposal matters more than the calendar, and our honest advice is not to force a date we cannot protect.

FAQ

Is it too late to book a Christmas proposal in Rovaniemi in November?

Not too late to write to us, but we cannot promise a specific date until we have checked. The earlier the better, especially for Christmas and New Year. We reply within one business day and tell you honestly whether your date is free.

How much does a late proposal cost?

The same as an early one: our ten proposals start between €650 and €2,700, including planning, coordination, set-up and removal. Extras such as a videographer or transport beyond the included distance are quoted separately.

What should I include in my first message?

Your dates with a second choice, number of nights, where you are staying, your rough budget, the story of you two, and a safe way to reach you. That lets us give a real answer straight away.

Can you guarantee the northern lights?

No, and nobody honestly can. Aurora season runs late August to April and December is a good month, but cloud decides. Propose early in your stay and keep a night in reserve.

Will my partner find out?

Not from us. We communicate only with you, on the channel you choose, and never contact your partner, friends or the venue unless you ask.

Is the Ice Chapel open at Christmas?

Yes: it is bookable for A Promise in the Ice Chapel from mid-December to the end of March while the SnowHotel stands, and it is rebuilt every winter.

Our Honest Final Word

Rovaniemi Weddings is our company, so you should know we benefit if you write. Even so, we would not want you to wait on a perfect plan. In November, the most useful thing you can do is send a short message with your dates, a second choice and a few lines about your partner. Then you will know within a business day whether your evening is free, what it costs and what we recommend. If it is not free, we will tell you.

If you want a starting point, look at Yes Under the Aurora for the aurora, The Fireside Proposal for warmth, or Right Where You Are if you want the simplest version at your own hotel. Or see all ten proposals. We reply within one business day, and we never contact your partner.
