Arctic Paws or Nulkki Husky Adventure in Rovaniemi: Which Husky Day Fits Your Family
A 10-minute guided sleigh ride for toddlers, or a 4-hour self-driven husky day for school-age children? Here is how we would choose between the two.

Huskies are the activity children ask for first, and the one parents worry about most: is it too cold, too long, too scary, too expensive? We have seen families get this decision exactly right and others book something that did not match their children at all.
The two products we get asked about most are very different in shape. One is a short, guided ride of about ten minutes. The other is a four-hour outing where you drive your own dog team. Same animals, completely different day. Here is how we would choose.
For toddlers and young children, Arctic Paws, the 2 km family-friendly husky ride5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 from €65 is the easy yes: about a 10-minute guide-driven sleigh ride, ages 0 to 12 welcome, plus time with the dogs. For school-age children and parents who want to drive, the Nulkki Husky Adventure5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 from €189 gives you a 5 km self-driven ride over four hours.

Two different kinds of husky day
The simplest way to think about it: Arctic Paws is a visit, Nulkki is an expedition. One fits into an hour of a busy family day. The other takes the best part of an afternoon and asks for energy, attention and a bit of stamina.
Neither is better in the abstract. What matters is the youngest and the most nervous person in your group. If you have a three-year-old who loves dogs but is tired by four in the afternoon, the short ride is the one. If you have a ten-year-old and a twelve-year-old who have been asking to drive a sled since the booking, the long one is the one.
We also see mixed families where one parent does the long tour with the older child while the other stays with the toddler. That is a perfectly good plan, and we will come back to it.
Arctic Paws: the short, gentle ride
According to the listing, Arctic Paws5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is a gentle guide-driven husky sleigh ride of about 2 km, roughly 10 minutes, followed by time to meet the dogs and take photos. It is listed from €65, marked easy, and open to children aged 0 to 12 plus adults. The cut-off is 15 minutes before the start.
Two points to read carefully. The time on your ticket is the meeting time at the husky location, and the exact ride start can shift by up to 40 minutes. Also, there is no pick-up or drop-off, and thermal clothing is not included, so dress the family properly before you arrive.
Book this if: your children are small, your budget is limited, or you want a pleasant husky moment without committing half a day. Skip it if: you are travelling with teenagers who expect to drive.

Nulkki Husky Adventure: you drive
Nulkki Husky Adventure5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is a four-hour outing listed from €189. The listing includes a 5 km self-driven ride with detailed instructions on how to mush the dogs, information about huskies, winter clothing in adult and child sizes, an English-speaking guide, and cookies and juice. The difficulty is marked easy.
Driving a team yourself is the part people remember. The dogs are strong and eager, and it takes a few minutes before you stop being nervous and start grinning. If you are not comfortable driving, you can usually share a sled and let the other person steer, which is a good compromise.
One caution: the tour is described as not suitable for children under three, and in bad weather it can be turned into a shortened guide-driven experience for safety. Read the full conditions before you set your heart on a particular format.

Choosing by the age of your children
Zero to two: choose Arctic Paws and keep the visit short. A baby in a sleigh with a parent is lovely if the weather allows, but the whole thing should take no more than an hour of the day.
Three to six: both could work, but we lean towards Arctic Paws for most. At that age the long outing can end in a meltdown, no matter how much they love dogs.
Seven to twelve: this is where Nulkki shines. Children of this age remember driving a sled for years, and they are capable of following instructions about braking and balance. Teenagers love it, as long as nobody makes it feel like a school trip.
Cold, clothes and what to bring
Nulkki includes winter clothing. Arctic Paws does not include thermal clothing, so check what you have, and if you do not have proper overalls, consider that when comparing prices. A cheaper ticket can become a more expensive day if you need to hire gear elsewhere.
Layers matter more than any single item: a base layer, a wool mid layer, a windproof outer. Mittens are warmer than gloves for small hands, and a neck warmer is better than a scarf, which tends to come loose.
Keep a small snack and a warm drink in your bag for the walk back. Children who are cold and hungry will tell you about it very loudly.
Combinations that save a day
If you want more than one animal in one outing, look at the Kuoksa Husky & Reindeer Adventure5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 from €349 over five hours: a 5 km self-driven husky ride, a reindeer sleigh ride of 2 to 3 km, and open-fire salmon soup in a teepee. It replaces two separate outings and is, in our opinion, one of the best-value family days in the catalogue.
For a bigger day, the Lapland Bucketlist Adventure with huskies, reindeer and snowmobiles starts at €449 over six hours. See our guide to activities in Rovaniemi for other options.
Our earlier comparison, sharing a private sleigh ride between two families, shows how splitting costs can change the choice.

What the budget looks like
A family of four on Arctic Paws, at €65 per adult before any child prices, spends far less than the same group on Nulkki at €189 per adult. The difference is large enough to pay for a second activity on another day. If you only have one outing, we think the question is not which is better but which your family will actually enjoy to the end.
Prices change with dates and group size, so use the live calendar. When you pay, enter HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for 5% off, whichever tour you choose.
And if the budget is very tight, remember that meeting the dogs for a short time is still a good memory; you do not need the biggest tour to get it.
