A Last-Minute Proposal in Rovaniemi: What You Can Still Arrange, What Needs More Notice and How to Ask Us Fast
You decided late, your flights are booked, and you are arriving in Rovaniemi in days, not months. A late decision does not have to mean a rushed proposal. We plan proposals here for a living, so here is an honest guide to what is realistic at short notice, which options are the quickest to prepare and what to send us in the first message.

Last-minute proposals are possible if the date is free; we cannot promise it, and the earlier you write, the better the choice. The fastest to organise are those with the fewest outside parties: Right Where You Are (from €650) styles a setting at the cabin or hotel where you are already staying, and A Thousand Petals (from €700) prepares a rose-petal room surprise. With a little more notice we can arrange Yes Under the Aurora (from €1,500) or The Fireside Proposal (from €1,400). Write to us as soon as you have your dates; we reply within one business day. Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, and everything is on the Proposals in Lapland page.

What "Last-Minute" Really Means for a Proposal
Most couples contact us weeks or months before they travel, and we recommend it. A proposal has moving parts: the setting, the flowers, the candles, the photographer, transport, the sparkling wine and a weather plan. The more notice we have, the more choice you get.
But life does not always allow it. A decision is made late, a trip is booked on impulse, a partner has been dropping hints. Our company says the same thing on every proposal page: last-minute proposals are happily taken too, if the date is available. We are Joona and Alla, we live in Rovaniemi, and Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, so we can tell you quickly what is possible without a long chain of emails.
What we cannot do is promise a date before we know it is free. Photographers, venues and operators have their own calendars, and December, the week of New Year and Valentine’s weekend fill first. So the first step is simple: write to us with your dates.
It also helps to be flexible about the details even if you are firm about the dates. The same story can be told in a candle-lit dome, beside a laavu fire or in a styled room, and the difference between them is often a few hours of preparation rather than a difference in feeling. When couples tell us what they want their partner to feel, rather than which setting they have read about, we can nearly always find a version of it that works in the time left.
Which Proposals Are Quickest to Organise
The general rule is that the fewer outside parties are involved, the quicker the proposal can be arranged. This table is our honest ranking from fastest to most advance-dependent; it is a rule of thumb, not a promise.

| Option | From | Why it can be quick | What needs notice |
|---|---|---|---|
| A Thousand Petals | €700 | A room surprise at your accommodation; flowers, balloons and sparkling wine | The property’s agreement and access to the room |
| Right Where You Are | €650 | Décor arranged at your accommodation, within 30 km of Rovaniemi | The property’s agreement; a photographer if you want one |
| Surprise Proposal Photoshoot | €1,050 | A shoot at Ounasvaara hill or Vaattunkiköngäs, styled by us | The photographer’s availability and the light |
| The Fireside Proposal | €1,400 | Our private land, the laavu and the fire | Photographer and transport |
| Yes Under the Aurora | €1,500 | A private guide-photographer for the evening | The guide’s availability and the forecast |
| Dinner in the Glass Dome | €1,450 | A booked dome and dinner | Limited reservations at the lodge |
| A Promise in the Ice Chapel | €1,800 | Private use of the Ice Chapel | The SnowHotel’s calendar, only mid-December to March |
| The Grand Romance | €2,700 | Built from scratch on site | The most preparation of all |
What to Send Us in the First Message
At short notice, a clear first message saves a day. The ones that work best include:

- Your dates in Rovaniemi and, if you know it, the evening you would prefer.
- Where you are staying, so we can check distance and the property’s agreement.
- The story: how you met, what your partner loves, how you want it to feel.
- A budget in a sentence, or the option you like from the list.
- Whether you want a photographer and a videographer.
- How we can reach you, on the channel you prefer. We write only to you and never to your partner.
We reply within one business day with a clear quote or a clear no. If your first choice is full, we will say so and suggest what is available. That is the whole conversation, and it is better to have it with more days left than fewer.
If you already know the accommodation, tell us its name and the room type. Many cabins, villas and hotel rooms around Rovaniemi are happy to agree to a styled setting, but it is the property’s decision, and the answer sometimes takes a day. Asking early removes the biggest unknown. For anything further than 30 km from the centre, tell us that too, since distance changes the transport quote, and we also work in Levi, Ylläs, Saariselkä and beyond.

A Realistic Short-Notice Plan
Here is how a trip of three or four days can run when the proposal is decided at the last minute. It is an example, not a schedule we guarantee.

- Before you fly. Write to us, share dates and the hotel. We confirm availability and a quote.
- Day of arrival. Settle in, rest, let jet lag pass. Do not spend the first evening on the question.
- Day two. Activities you chose anyway, and a quiet afternoon. We prepare while you are out.
- Evening two or three. The proposal, with a buffer day in case the weather or the aurora forecast asks us to shift.
- The last day. Time to celebrate and call the family.
The buffer day matters more than anything else. Our 3-day Rovaniemi trip with a proposal follows the same logic, and you can use it as a template.
If you are arriving even sooner, a two-day weekend can work too. The same logic applies: choose the simplest option, keep the evening before it free and let us prepare while you do something else. A weekend proposal is a smaller canvas, but we have found that couples remember the feeling of the moment far more than the scale of the setting. Do not try to add a second big plan on the same day; a short trip is best with one clear high point.
When Last-Minute Is Harder
Not every date is easy at short notice. Be honest with yourselves about these:
- Christmas and New Year. The week around 24 December to 1 January is the busiest of the year. Read what sells out first.
- Valentine’s weekend. One of the most requested dates in February. See our Valentine’s Day proposal guide.
- The Ice Chapel and the frozen lake. Both are winter-only: the lake from December to March, the Ice Chapel from mid-December to the end of March.
- Bigger designs. The Grand Romance is built on site, and a custom proposal needs time to design.
None of these is impossible, and sometimes a cancellation opens a date. But if your dates fall in one of these windows, write to us the same day you decide.
Keeping It Secret in a Short Trip
A short trip makes secrecy easier and harder at once. You have fewer days to slip, but your partner may notice if the schedule is unusual. Keep the cover story close to the truth: a special evening out, a photo outing, a sauna slot. Do not ask anyone at the hotel to arrange anything yourself; we speak to the property on your behalf where needed. Our guide to keeping a Lapland proposal secret has the details.
Dress for the cold: layers, boots, a thin pair of gloves so you can handle the ring. The photographer will do the rest.
Last-minute plans also tempt people to over-explain. Say as little as you can: “I found a lovely place for dinner” or “I booked a small photo session” is enough. If your partner asks for details, a vague answer with a smile is better than a detailed one that has to be remembered. Keep the flowers and the ring out of the suitcase until the day itself, and let us deliver the bouquet to the setting.
How to Plan It With Us
Our four steps are the same at any notice: tell us the story, receive an option and a quote within a business day, let us prepare quietly, then enjoy the moment while we set up and step out of sight. We hold your date as soon as you accept the quote, and we confirm every supplier before the evening. At short notice we simply compress the middle steps and keep you updated by message.
Start on the Proposals in Lapland page, pick the option you like and write to us through the Contact Rovaniemi Weddings page.
FAQ
Can you really arrange a proposal in a few days?
If the date is free, often yes, depending on the option. Settings at your own accommodation such as Right Where You Are and A Thousand Petals need the fewest outside parties. We cannot promise a date until we have checked it.
What is the fastest proposal to organise?
As a rule of thumb, A Thousand Petals (from €700) and Right Where You Are (from €650), because they happen where you are staying. They require the property’s agreement, which we ask for on your behalf.
Is there a surcharge for last-minute bookings?
We publish from-prices per proposal and give one clear quote before you decide. Ask us when you write; add-ons such as transport and a videographer are quoted for your date.
What if the date we want is full?
We say so quickly and suggest the nearest alternatives, a different evening or a different option. Having a spare evening in your trip makes this easy.
Can we get a photographer on short notice?
Nearly all of our proposals include one. For the two that do not, a photographer can be added; availability depends on your date.
What if the weather turns?
In winter there is no rain in Lapland, and falling snow makes the moment more romantic. We have a weather plan for every date and can bring clear umbrellas or agree a sheltered alternative.
Our Honest Final Word
Deciding late is not a reason to give up on a beautiful proposal. The settings that work best at short notice are the simplest ones, and simple is often exactly what a proposal needs: a styled spot, a bouquet, a toast and someone to photograph it. Write to us first, ask what is free and keep a buffer evening.
Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, so we will tell you honestly if a date is unrealistic and what we would do instead. Start with Right Where You Are, A Thousand Petals or all ten proposals.
