A Small Wedding in Lapland for 20 to 30 Guests: One Venue, One Long Table and a Weekend Instead of a Day
Twenty to thirty guests is the size where a Lapland wedding feels most like a long dinner with the people you love. This guide covers which venues near Rovaniemi suit that size, what the budget looks like, how to handle guest accommodation, and how we plan a small wedding as a weekend rather than a single day.

A small wedding in Lapland for 20 to 30 guests works best with one venue, one long table and a weekend of time together. Near Rovaniemi, the venues we would put forward are Silver Birch Resort (up to 36 guests seated), the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos and its Ice Chapel (winter only), Invisible Forest Lodge (a restaurant for up to 44) and Kurula's Resort in Pyhä. A beautifully styled event of 20 to 50 guests is typically €10,000 to €20,000. Our own company, Rovaniemi Weddings, plans the whole thing or just the day; start with our Intimate Wedding in Lapland page and the Weddings overview.

Why 20 to 30 Guests Is a Sweet Spot
Many of the weddings people remember best in Lapland are for 10 to 30 people. It is large enough to feel like a celebration, with grandparents, siblings and friends, and small enough that everyone sits at one table and nobody is a stranger by the second evening. It also fits the venues: Lapland’s best places are small, private and seasonal, and they work better with a close group than with a crowd.
Full disclosure: Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company. Alla founded it after planning her own wedding in 2024, and we plan weddings from two guests to 200 and more across Lapland, Finland, Sweden and Norway. We have our favourites at this size, and we say so, but we also tell couples where a place does not suit them.
Why a Weekend Works Better Than a Day
For 20 to 30 guests, many of whom are travelling a long way, we plan a small wedding as a weekend or even three days, not a single event. A simple shape: a welcome evening with a relaxed dinner or a sauna on the first night, the ceremony and the wedding dinner on the second day, and a slow brunch or an activity on the third. Guests then have time to adjust to the cold and the light, to see something of Lapland, and to talk to each other.

It also eases the budget. A single long table with a good dinner and thoughtful styling costs far less than a seated reception with a band, and a weekend of shared time feels bigger than the sum of its costs. If you want to add an experience, a reindeer sleigh ride, a husky ride or a northern lights evening are all things we arrange; see Reindeer Wedding in Lapland, Husky Wedding in Lapland and Sauna Wedding in Lapland.

What a Small Lapland Wedding Costs
Published cost ranges for a Lapland wedding run from around €5,000 for an intimate elopement to €30,000 and more, and €10,000 to €20,000 is typical for a styled event of 20 to 50 guests. The components:

- Venue. A cabin or glass igloo for an intimate day, €500 to €1,500; a hotel or resort event space, €2,000 to €8,000.
- Styling. A full styling package, €1,500 to €5,000.
- Photography. Full-day coverage, €1,500 to €4,000, with videography an additional €1,500 to €3,500.
- Catering. A sit-down dinner for 20 to 50 guests, €50 to €150 per person.
- Accommodation. Guesthouses €80 to €150 per night, glass igloos and resort suites €300 to €800 per night.
To make it concrete, Silver Birch Resort publishes its venue terms: venue hire until midnight from €799, a staff service fee from €219, a cleaning fee from €119, and dinner from €43 per guest (buffet), €60 (four-course) or €28 (cocktail reception). For 25 guests with a four-course dinner, those items alone come to roughly €2,600 before styling, photography, officiant and accommodation. Our Lapland Wedding Cost page has the wider ranges, and we always add a contingency of around 10%.

Where Your Guests Sleep
Accommodation is the question that decides the small-wedding plan. Silver Birch Resort has five cabins, each sleeping two adults or two adults and one child, so for 25 guests part of the group stays elsewhere, in Rovaniemi a short drive away. Kurula’s Resort has 17 suites, so the whole wedding party stays together on site; Invisible Forest Lodge has suites and log cabins for 2 to 4 guests and a four-bedroom Luxury Log Villa for 6 to 8; and the Arctic SnowHotel offers snow hotel suites, rooms and heated glass igloos, with accommodation packages for wedding guests that can be arranged.
We help with this: we ask the venues for the best arrangement for your guest count, suggest where to place the older relatives and the families with children, and arrange shuttle transport between places. Your guests book their own flights, typically €150 to €500 return from European cities, and arrive in Rovaniemi where the airport is a short drive from town.
A Sample Wedding Weekend
To make the weekend idea concrete, this is a shape we often propose, adjusted to the season and the venue:
- Friday evening. Guests arrive, settle in and meet over a relaxed dinner or a lakeside sauna. No speeches, no schedule.
- Saturday morning. A slow breakfast. The couple get ready, with our team installing the arch, the table and the candles in the venue.
- Saturday afternoon. The ceremony, followed by couple photographs while guests have a warm drink. In winter this is timed for the best daylight.
- Saturday evening. The wedding dinner at one long table, toasts, a first dance if you wish, and a walk outside if the sky is clear.
- Sunday. Brunch and a goodbye, or an optional experience such as a reindeer visit for those who are staying on.
The advantage of this shape is that nobody has to be everywhere at once. Our team runs the timeline, so the couple and their families can be guests at their own wedding.
One Long Table: Styling a Small Wedding
A long table is both the easiest and the most beautiful way to host 20 to 30 guests. We style it with candles, runners, florals and curated décor from our rental collection, and we use high-quality artificial and preserved flowers suited to Nordic conditions, because fresh petals freeze at −30 °C and so that the arrangements look perfect in every season. For a winter wedding the palette is often white, silver, green and warm metallics; in summer it can be foraged wildflowers, linen and birch; in autumn, burgundy, terracotta and amber. See Winter Wedding in Lapland, Autumn Wedding in Lapland and Midnight Sun Wedding in Lapland for the seasonal ideas.

If you already have a plan and just need help on the day, we offer on-the-day coordination only, and décor rental for couples who build their own. Our Lapland Wedding Planner page explains what a planner does and when you need one.
Making It Legal
Finland allows foreign nationals to marry here with no residency requirement or waiting period. You apply for an examination of impediments through the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, which typically takes about seven working days (longer for international applicants) and costs around €60. You will need passports and a certificate of no impediment, with certified translations and sometimes an apostille. The ceremony is performed by a district court judge or other authorised official, in English, at almost any location. Many couples marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Lapland. Start the paperwork three to four months ahead; see Getting Married in Finland and our guide for foreigners.

FAQ
What is the best venue for 20 to 30 guests?
It depends on the season and style. Silver Birch Resort seats up to 36, the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos suits a winter ceremony, Invisible Forest Lodge has a restaurant for up to 44, and Kurula's Resort keeps everyone together in Pyhä.
How much does it cost?
A styled event of 20 to 50 guests is typically €10,000 to €20,000, including venue, styling, photography, catering and coordination. We give you a custom quote after a consultation.
How far ahead should we book?
12 to 18 months for December to March, 9 to 12 months for summer midnight sun, and 6 to 12 months for spring and autumn.
Can we have the ceremony outside in winter?
Yes. Winter ceremonies are kept brief, about 15 to 20 minutes, with fire pits, blankets and warm drinks, and a heated space nearby.
Do you plan only part of the wedding?
Yes. We offer full planning, on-the-day coordination only, styling and décor rental, and you can combine them.
Is the wedding legal in Finland?
It can be. Foreign nationals can marry in Finland with an examination of impediments (around seven working days, around €60) and a civil ceremony in English.
Our Honest Final Word
A small wedding in Lapland is not a compromise; for many couples it is the point. One venue, one long table and a weekend with the people who matter is easier to plan, kinder to your budget and, in our experience, more remembered afterwards than a large event. We are biased, because this is our own business, but we have styled enough of these to know that the best ones are decided by the choice of venue and the length of the weekend more than by any single detail.
