Proposing Over Dinner in a Glass Dome in Rovaniemi: How Our Invisible Forest Lodge Proposal Works
A glowing glass dome in a pine forest ten minutes from Rovaniemi, a private three-course dinner for two, and the question whenever it feels right. We plan this proposal through our own company, Rovaniemi Weddings, and this is the honest version of how the evening goes, what it costs and when to come.

Dinner in the Glass Dome (from €1,450) is the proposal we plan at Invisible Forest Lodge, a boutique lodge in a pine forest beside the Ounasjoki river, less than ten minutes from Rovaniemi. Your partner thinks you have booked a special dinner, which you have: a welcome drink and a private three-course meal of fresh local ingredients inside a glowing glass dome among the trees. The proposal décor waits either outside the dome in the snow or inside on your table, a photographer captures the moment and takes couple photos right after, and private transport within 10 km of the city centre is included. It works all year round; from late August to April the northern lights may dance above the glass. The cover story is the easiest of all our Proposals in Lapland: “I booked us dinner.”

What a Glass Dome Dinner Proposal in Rovaniemi Actually Is
First, the setting. Invisible Forest Lodge sits at Ketavaara, in a pine forest beside the Ounasjoki river, less than ten minutes from the centre of Rovaniemi. It is a small boutique lodge of mirror-clad suites, and its evenings revolve around food: an Arctic tasting menu from the hot-rock grill in the Invisible Restaurant, or a private dinner in one of the glass domes that stand among the trees. The domes seat two to six people, reservations are limited to keep them private, and they are where many of the proposals we plan take place.
Second, the honesty. Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company. Alla founded it after planning her own wedding in 2024, and we are the ones who carry the candles into the forest while you are still at your hotel deciding what to wear. Treat this as advice from a friend who does this for a living, not as a neutral review.
Third, why we like this option for a surprise: it needs no weather plan, clear sky or long walk in the cold. A dome dinner is a complete evening even without a ring in it, so your partner has no reason to suspect anything. You add one sentence at the right moment; we take care of everything around it.
How the Evening Unfolds, Step by Step
The dinner is served in the evening, so this is how a typical night runs:

- Pick-up. Private transport from your accommodation is included within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre, which covers the town and most hotels around it; further out is priced by distance. The drive is under ten minutes.
- The walk in. Before you arrive we have set up the décor, checked the candles and stepped out of sight. You walk through the forest to a dome that is already glowing.
- Welcome drink and three courses. A welcome drink, then three courses from fresh local ingredients, private and unhurried. If you chose the décor inside, your partner sees it as the dome door opens; if outside, the setting waits among the trees for later.
- The question, when it feels right. There is no fixed minute. Some ask before the first course; most wait until after the main. The photographer is nearby and captures the moment.
- Couple photos. Right after the yes: in the dome, among the pines, or at the outdoor setting.
- Back to town, or not. Transport returns you to your accommodation unless you are staying at the lodge. We pack down quietly after you have left.
Outside, Inside or Both: Where the Décor Waits
The one decision we ask you to make early is where the proposal setting should be. The price includes décor in one of two places; having both is an add-on.
| Option | What your partner sees | When the moment usually happens | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outside the dome, among the trees | A styled setting in the snow or forest, lit with candles, a short walk from the dome | After dinner, stepping outside “for the view” | Couples who want a dramatic reveal and photos against the forest and sky |
| Inside, on the dinner table | The table already dressed with the proposal setting as the door opens | At the start of dinner, or whenever you choose | Couples who want warmth, privacy and the whole dinner to be “the moment” |
| Both (add-on) | A styled table inside and a second setting outside | You choose; many people ask outside and celebrate inside | Couples who want the reveal and the long, warm dinner afterwards |
Whichever you choose, the bouquet of 30 roses is part of it and the photographer works around it. If you cannot decide, tell us how your partner reacts to surprises: people who love a big reveal get the outdoor setting; people who prefer not to be in front of a camera for long get the table.
What €1,450 Includes, and What Adds to It
Like all our proposals, the price is a “from” price and already covers planning, coordination, set-up and removal by our team. For Dinner in the Glass Dome it includes:
- Organisation, planning and coordination of the proposal
- A private three-course dinner for two with a welcome drink, in your own glass dome
- Proposal décor outside the dome or inside at your table (you choose)
- A bouquet of 30 roses
- Private transport within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre
- A professional photographer capturing the moment, followed by couple photos right after the proposal
What raises the price is predictable, and we quote it before you decide:
- Décor in both places, outside and inside the dome
- A bigger bouquet
- A videographer
- Private transport from further than 10 km from the city centre
For context against our ten signature proposals: the dome dinner sits in the middle of the range, close to The Fireside Proposal (from €1,400) and Yes Under the Aurora (from €1,500), and it is the only one of the three that includes a full dinner. If your budget is tighter, Right Where You Are (from €650) brings a styled setting to the cabin or hotel you have already booked.

Dinner in the Glass Dome
From €1,450 · year-round (northern lights possible late Aug–Apr). Everything you share stays between us — we never contact your partner.
When to Come: The Dome Works in Every Season
This is one of the few proposals we plan that is genuinely year-round, so pick the trip first.

- Late August to April — aurora season. The forest around the lodge is genuinely dark at night, which is exactly what you want for the northern lights, and from the dome you have the sky above you. We say this plainly: the lights are possible, never guaranteed. The difference from our dedicated northern lights proposal is that here nothing depends on the sky. If the night is cloudy, you still have the dinner, the décor and the photos; if the aurora appears above the glass, it is a gift.
- December to March — deep winter. Snow on the pines, the blue polar twilight in December and January, and candles that glow properly against the dark by late afternoon. The outdoor setting among snowy trees is at its best now. If you are coming at Christmas, our Lapland Christmas season guide explains why the dinner reservation and the proposal date should be fixed as early as you can.
- June and July — midnight sun. No aurora, but the light stays soft until well past midnight, which makes the couple photos after the yes easy and golden. The forest is green instead of white.
- May and September–October. Quieter months; September brings autumn colours and the first northern lights of the season.
One note for readers travelling as a family: from 1 November to 15 March the lodge welcomes guests aged 14 and over only; from mid-March to the end of October families are welcome. On a winter trip with younger children, the dome dinner is an evening for the two of you.
Where It Fits in Your Trip, What to Wear and How to Keep It Secret
Which night. On a three- or four-night Rovaniemi trip we suggest the second evening. Day one is for arriving and seeing the town; day three is for the daytime activity your partner came for. Because the dome dinner does not depend on the weather, you do not need a reserve night for cloud, as you would for an aurora hunt.
What to wear. The dome is a dinner setting, so you can dress for dinner. The walk from the car through the forest is short but it is still Lapland: proper boots and the warm coat for the walk, then take the coat off inside. If you chose the outdoor setting, you will stand in the snow for the proposal and the photos, so add the hat and mittens from our Lapland winter packing guide. One cream or bright piece photographs beautifully against the dark trees and the glow of the dome.
Keeping it secret. On our side the rule is simple: we communicate only with you, on the channel you choose, and we never contact your partner or your friends. On your side, the dome dinner almost keeps itself secret. “I booked us a special dinner in a glass dome in the forest” is true, sounds like a treat rather than a plot, and explains the nice clothes, the taxi and the camera. Keep the ring on you, not in the hotel safe.
Making a Night of It: Staying at the Lodge, and Other Ways to Ask
Many couples turn the proposal into a full night at Invisible Forest Lodge. The Invisible Suites are mirror-clad cabins with a full glass wall onto the forest, a bed facing the sky and their own sauna and hot tub; there are also log cabins, a four-bedroom Luxury Log Villa and a glass Aurora Hut for two, and the Arctic Forest Spa has an outdoor lagoon pool and a 360° wave sauna for the morning after. If you stay, we can style a second surprise for your return to the suite, from a candle-lit path through the snow to a setting inside your room, which is what our Right Where You Are option does wherever you sleep.

If dinner is not your partner’s idea of the perfect moment, the same team plans nine other proposals. The Fireside Proposal is a crackling laavu fire on private land outside Rovaniemi, all year round. Yes Under the Aurora is a private northern lights hunt with a photographer as your guide, from late August to April. In deep winter, On the Frozen Lake and A Promise in the Ice Chapel are the two settings people fly here for; we have written separate guides to each. And the lodge is also one of the places we plan intimate weddings and elopements, with ceremonies among the pines or at the end of a candle-lit path in the snow; our Elopement in Lapland page explains how that works.
How to Plan It With Us, Step by Step
The process is the same for every proposal we plan, and it is built so that the only thing left for you to do on the night is ask.
- Weeks before — tell us the story. Write to us through the Contact Rovaniemi Weddings page: how you met, what your partner loves, how you want the evening to feel, your travel dates and where you are staying. We reply within one business day. If the dome dinner is right, we say so; if another option fits your partner better, we say that too.
- Within a few days — option and quote. One clear quote with nothing hidden. We hold the date, confirm the dome with the lodge and settle the outside-or-inside question with you.
- The days before — quiet preparation. Flowers, candles, photographer, transport and timing are confirmed on our side. You pack the ring and keep your face straight.
- The evening — the moment. We set up while you are on your way and step out of sight. You walk in, dinner begins, you ask when it feels right, the photographer captures it and takes couple photos, and we pack down after you leave.
The earlier you write, the more likely your evening is still free; the domes are limited by design. That said, we happily take last-minute proposals when a date is available.
FAQ
How much does the glass dome dinner proposal in Rovaniemi cost?
Dinner in the Glass Dome starts from €1,450. That includes planning, coordination, set-up and removal, a private three-course dinner for two with a welcome drink, proposal décor outside the dome or inside at your table, a bouquet of 30 roses, private transport within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre, and a professional photographer who captures the moment and takes couple photos right after. Décor in both places, a bigger bouquet, a videographer and transport from further away are quoted as add-ons, with nothing hidden.
Can we see the northern lights from the glass dome?
Possibly. The northern lights season runs from late August to April, and the forest around Invisible Forest Lodge is genuinely dark at night, so if the sky is clear and active you may see them above the glass. Nobody can promise the aurora, which is why we like this proposal: the dinner, the décor and the photos do not depend on the sky, and the lights are a bonus.
What if the weather is bad on the evening?
The dinner happens inside a heated glass dome, so the weather does not change the evening. In winter there is no rain in Lapland; falling snow only makes the forest more beautiful. If you chose the outdoor proposal setting and the night is very cold or windy, the moment is short and the dome is a few steps away, and we can agree in advance to move the setting inside to your table.
Will my partner find out it is a proposal?
Not from us. We communicate only with you, on the channel you choose, and we never contact your partner. Everything is set up before you arrive and packed down after you leave. The cover story is the easiest of all our proposals: you have booked a private dinner in a glass dome in the forest, which is exactly what it looks like until you ask.
Is there an age limit at Invisible Forest Lodge?
From 1 November to 15 March the lodge welcomes guests aged 14 and over only; from mid-March to the end of October families are welcome. For a winter proposal the dome dinner is an evening for the two of you. If you are travelling with younger children in winter and want them part of the moment, we suggest a daytime option such as The Fireside Proposal instead.
Can we stay overnight at the lodge after the proposal?
Yes. The lodge has mirror-clad Invisible Suites with a glass wall onto the forest, log cabins for two to four, a Luxury Log Villa for six to eight and a glass Aurora Hut for two, each with a private sauna and hot tub, plus the Arctic Forest Spa. Accommodation is booked separately with the lodge; if you stay, we can style a second surprise in your suite for when you return from dinner.
Our Honest Final Word
Plainly: Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, and we would love you to book with us. But we have also stood in that forest with a box of candles enough times to know why this one works. A glass dome dinner is already a perfect evening, which is exactly why it makes such a good disguise: no sky to worry about, no long walk in the cold, no schedule your partner can read. You eat well, you ask when you are ready, and every other detail is taken care of.
If your partner loves good food and a warm room, start with Dinner in the Glass Dome. If they would rather be outside under the sky, read our guides to Yes Under the Aurora and On the Frozen Lake. And if you are not sure, see all ten proposals, then tell us the story through our Contact Rovaniemi Weddings page. We reply within one business day, and we never contact your partner.
