An Easter Proposal in Rovaniemi: Late-March Snow, Long Light and Which Settings Are Still Open
Easter 2027 falls on 28 March, when Rovaniemi still has deep snow but far longer days. We run Rovaniemi Weddings, and here is what we would tell a friend: which proposal settings are still open, how to book a holiday week, and what to wear when the sun is warm but the air is not.

Easter 2027 falls on Sunday 28 March, and it is a lovely time to propose in Rovaniemi: the snow is still deep, the days are long enough for an unhurried afternoon, and the Ice Chapel and the northern lights are both still possible. Through our own company, Rovaniemi Weddings, we plan A Promise in the Ice Chapel (from €1,800, Ice Chapel season until the end of March), On the Frozen Lake (from €1,400, December to March, ice permitting) and Yes Under the Aurora (from €1,500, aurora season to April). Book early, because Easter is a holiday week, and dress for the cold even when the sun is out. See all Proposals in Lapland.

The Short Answer: Is Easter a Good Time to Propose in Rovaniemi?
Yes, and for a reason that surprises many travellers: late March is the best of both winters. It is still properly wintry, with deep snow and frozen lakes, but the daylight is long and generous, so you are not trying to fit a proposal into a few grey hours. The polar-night weeks of December are well behind, and the midnight sun is still some way ahead.
One honest note: Rovaniemi Weddings is our own company, Joona and Alla, and we live here. So we will tell you what we would tell a friend. Easter 2027 falls on Sunday 28 March, which is inside our winter-only settings but near the end of them. If your heart is set on the Ice Chapel or the frozen lake, an Easter weekend date is still possible, but it is close to the end of the season, so ask early.
What Late March Looks Like in Lapland
We live here, so these are our own observations, kept deliberately general.
- Snow. Still deep in the forest and on the lakes. Late March does not feel like spring in Rovaniemi.
- Light. Days are long, with daylight well into the evening. In Finland the clocks also go forward on the last Sunday of March, which in 2027 is Easter Sunday itself, so the evenings feel longer still.
- Temperatures. Expect anything from properly cold mornings to sunny afternoons closer to zero. It is changeable, so plan for both.
- The sun. Bright, low and reflected off snow. Sunglasses are not a luxury.
- Northern lights. Still possible, with the season running to April. Because it gets dark later, the viewing window moves later in the evening.
The result is an unusually flexible proposal day. You can do an afternoon in the snow, dinner, and still step outside afterwards.
It also means the light can be part of the plan. A proposal at a lakeside or by a fire in the afternoon has soft, low sunlight on the snow, and one in the evening has candles and lanterns. We choose the hour with you, and the photographer helps us pick the moment when the light is at its best.
Which Settings Are Still Open at Easter
Here is how our main options sit against a late-March date, using the seasons in our own kit.
| Proposal | From | Season | Photographer | Easter fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A Promise in the Ice Chapel | €1,800 | Mid-December to March | Yes | Possible, but near the end of the season |
| On the Frozen Lake | €1,400 | December to March, ice permitting | Yes | Possible, with the ice decided on the day |
| Yes Under the Aurora | €1,500 | Late August to April | Yes, the guide | Good, with a later evening start |
| The Fireside Proposal | €1,400 | Year-round | Yes | Very good, afternoon light |
| Dinner in the Glass Dome | €1,450 | Year-round | Yes | Good, evening |
All of these are “from” prices that include planning, coordination, set-up and removal. Transport is included where the option says so, and priced by distance from Rovaniemi where it does not.
The Ice Chapel at Easter: Beautiful, but Book Early
Every winter the Ice Chapel at the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos in Sinettä is carved by hand from snow and clear ice, and every spring it melts away. In our kit it is bookable from mid-December to the end of March, so an Easter proposal falls inside the season but close to its end. Candlelight glows through the frozen walls, reindeer hides warm the benches, and for the proposal the chapel is yours alone.

A Promise in the Ice Chapel starts from €1,800 and includes private use of the chapel, decoration, a bouquet of 30 roses, an entrance ticket to the Arctic SnowHotel & Glass Igloos, a celebratory toast (usually at the Ice Bar) and a professional photographer. The evening can carry on at the hotel after the yes.
Our honest advice: if the chapel is your dream, tell us the Easter dates now rather than in March. We would rather agree a second date in the days before or after Easter than have you stand at the door with nothing planned.

A Promise in the Ice Chapel
From €1,800 · winter-only (mid-Dec–Mar). Everything you share stays between us — we never contact your partner.
On the Ice and Under the Sky: The Lake and the Aurora
On the Frozen Lake puts you on a private frozen lake just outside Rovaniemi, with candles and lanterns on the ice, a fire with warm drinks and cookies, 30 roses and sparkling wine. It runs from December to March, and the ice has to be thick and safe to walk on. In late March that is a judgement we make with you on the day, not a promise we can give in November. We plan a back-up so that the day still works.

Yes Under the Aurora is a private northern lights tour for two, guided by a professional photographer, who captures the proposal and then takes couple photos. It starts from €1,500, all transport is included, and the decoration with flowers and candles is prepared while you watch the lights. No one can promise the aurora, and we will not either. What we can say is that the guide chooses the spot where the sky is clearest that night, and that late March still has long dark evening hours. If the sky stays closed, you still have the setting, the flowers and the photographer.
If you cannot decide between the two, here is how we would think about it. Choose the lake or the Ice Chapel if you want a place that looks the same in every photograph and a time you can set in advance. Choose the aurora tour if you want the sky to be part of the story and are happy for the exact spot to be chosen on the night.
Planning the Trip Around Easter: Crowds, Dates and Secrecy
Easter is a holiday week for many travellers, so expect rooms, flights and private tours to book earlier than in a quiet week. We cannot quote travel prices and will not guess at them, but the pattern is the usual one: the sooner you choose your dates, the more choice you have. Some shops and restaurants keep shorter hours over the Easter holidays, so book your proposal dinner in advance.
A simple plan for a three- or four-night trip:
- Day one. Arrive, settle in, and keep the evening light. The airport is about ten minutes from town.
- Day two. A relaxed day of Santa Claus Village or a snowy walk, then the proposal in the afternoon or evening.
- Day three. A celebratory dinner, or a day of activities such as a snowmobile safari.
- Spare evening. Keep one in reserve for the aurora or a weather change.
On secrecy, we communicate only with you and never contact your partner. We prepare everything before you arrive, and pack down after you leave. If your partner is curious, give them a simple reason for the plan: “a special dinner” or “a sunset walk”.
What to Wear for a Proposal in March Snow
The sun can fool you. Late-March afternoons can feel mild in the light and turn sharply cold when the sun drops or the wind comes across a lake. Dress for the cold, and photograph second.

- Thermal base layers and a warm mid-layer under your coat.
- Insulated, waterproof boots with grip. Snow can be soft in the afternoon and icy again by evening.
- Warm gloves, a hat and a scarf. Keep thin gloves in your pocket for the photograph.
- Sunglasses for the daytime glare off the snow.
- A long coat or cape over a dress or suit, if you want the photographs to feel formal.
Our what-to-bring guide for a day in Rovaniemi goes through the layers hour by hour. In winter there is no rain in Lapland, so falling snow is the weather to expect. We can bring clear umbrellas, and we agree a sheltered alternative in advance.
How to Plan It With Us
The steps are short and always the same.
- Tell us the story. Your dates around Easter, how you met and what they love. We suggest the fitting option.
- Option and quote. A clear quote with nothing hidden and the date held. Timing is fine-tuned together.
- Quiet preparation. Flowers, candles, photographer, sparkling wine and the weather plan are confirmed in the days before.
- The moment. We set up while you are on your way and step out of sight. You walk them in, the yes happens, and we pack away.
We reply within one business day. Start at Contact Rovaniemi Weddings. If the proposal turns into a wedding plan, see Winter Wedding in Lapland and Ice Hotel Wedding in Lapland.
FAQ
When is Easter 2027, and is it a busy time in Rovaniemi?
Easter Sunday is 28 March 2027. It is a holiday week for many travellers, so book your trip and your proposal date early. Some shops and restaurants may keep shorter hours, so confirm a proposal dinner in advance.
Is the Ice Chapel open at Easter?
Our Ice Chapel proposals are bookable from mid-December to the end of March, so Easter 2027 falls inside the season but near its end. A Promise in the Ice Chapel starts from €1,800. Ask early, and we will agree an alternative date if needed.
Can we still see the northern lights in late March?
The northern lights season runs from late August to April, so they are possible, but never guaranteed. Yes Under the Aurora starts from €1,500 and includes a private tour, a guide-photographer and all transport.
Will the frozen lake be safe at Easter?
On the Frozen Lake runs from December to March whenever the ice is thick and safe to walk on. At the end of March we decide this with you nearer the date, and keep a back-up setting ready.
What should we wear?
Thermal layers, insulated waterproof boots, warm gloves, a hat and sunglasses. The sun can feel warm while the air stays cold. There is no rain in winter, so we plan for snow, and can bring clear umbrellas.
How far ahead should we get in touch?
As early as you can, especially for a holiday week. Last-minute requests are welcome if the date is free. We reply within one business day via Contact Rovaniemi Weddings.
Our Honest Final Word
Easter in Rovaniemi is a good time to propose, because the winter is still real and the light is kind. It is also the end of the winter-only season, so the Ice Chapel and the frozen lake need an early conversation, and the weather needs a plan. If you tell us your dates now, we can tell you honestly what is possible.
Rovaniemi Weddings is our company, so we would like you to book with us, but we would rather you booked the right setting than the grandest one. Choose A Promise in the Ice Chapel for the chapel, The Fireside Proposal for a warm, reliable afternoon, or see all ten proposals. We send one clear quote within a business day, and we never contact your partner.
