What the tour page tells us about lunch

The facts are short and we will not stretch them. The tour includes a local lunch. According to the description, the group stops around midday at Sommarøy Arctic Hotel, beautifully located by the seaside, for what the operator calls a high-quality Arctic lunch featuring fresh local ingredients, and vegan and vegetarian options are available. We have not tasted it, so we cannot review the menu, and we would not promise a particular dish. What we can say is that you do not need to pack your own lunch for the main meal of the day.

The tour page lists three inclusions: a local expert guide, transport in a premium Mercedes-Benz vehicle and the local lunch. Drinks, souvenirs and extra snacks beyond the meal are not described as included, so carry a little money and your own water.

Vegetarian and vegan guests: what to do

The operator lists vegan and vegetarian options on the tour page, so a vegetarian or vegan guest is expected. Our advice is simple. When you book, look for a notes or special-requests field in the checkout and write your diet in plain words: vegan, vegetarian, no fish. If there is no field, send Legendary Adventure a short message with your booking reference. The tour starts at 10:00, and the lunch is a few hours later, so there is time to prepare, but not time to improvise on the day.

Fish and seafood are common in coastal Norwegian cooking, and in a small fishing region like this one it is sensible to be explicit. A pescatarian guest should still say so rather than assume.

Allergies and other dietary needs

Nothing on the tour page describes allergen handling, so we cannot tell you how a particular allergy is managed. If you or a child has a serious allergy, contact Legendary Adventure before you book, explain the allergy, and ask them to confirm in writing what the hotel can do. Carry your own medication and snacks that you know are safe. This is a day on remote coastal roads, and it is better to arrive over-prepared than to rely on a shop being nearby.

How lunch fits into the day

The pickup is outside Clarion Hotel The Edge at 10:00. The coastal drive from Tromsø passes fjords, mountains and beaches, with scenic stops for photos. The operator describes reindeer near the road, moose in the forest, seasonal whale sightings and white-tailed sea eagles as things to keep an eye out for, none of them guaranteed. Lunch is at midday at Sommarøy, and the tour continues to the village stops, coastal life and fishing stories before the return to Tromsø.

Plan on a 5–6 hour tour. A light breakfast is enough, because lunch is part of the day.

Shared tour or private: a food perspective

The shared tour has 2–8 guests per departure. If one person in your party has dietary needs, it is not a reason to go private, but a private group is easier to talk through in advance. The Private Sommarøy & Kvaløya Scenic Fjord Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is NOK 15,000 per group, also with a local lunch, all ages, with the pickup chosen at checkout. Families with very young children or picky eaters may find the private version calmer. For the details of the other tours, our all our Tromsø tour guides collects everything in one place.

How to book it with 5% off

Choose a date on the booking calendar, add your guests, and write your dietary request in the notes field if one is shown. At checkout, enter HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 in the promo-code field. The 5% comes off the total when you book online with Legendary Adventure. We are Legendary Adventure’s partner and may earn a commission, but your price stays the same.

A booking can be cancelled for a full refund more than 48 hours before, while inside 48 hours the full price is charged. Add any dietary information as early as you can.

What to bring besides your appetite

Dress in layers, with a warm coat, hat, gloves and winter boots. You will step out of the vehicle at scenic stops, and the coast can be windy. Bring a camera or a phone with a charged battery, a small bottle of water and sunglasses for bright snow. In winter the light is soft and the days are short, so the scenery is as much about colour as about daylight hours.
