This guide is built from our own winters in the Arctic and from the live Legendary Adventure tour pages in Tromsø — prices, pickup times and what is included come straight from the operator, never invented.
Confirm your pickup point (outside Clarion Hotel The Edge, 19:00, or 18:30 from 25 October), charge your devices, plan a light dinner and sleep well. If you still need a seat, the small-group Northern Lights Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is NOK 2 300 per person; use HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 at checkout.

Northern Lights Tour
From NOK 2 300 per person · 5-8 Hours · Tromsø. Live dates and prices open right here — you book directly with Legendary Adventure in Tromsø.
Today: confirm the basics
If your tour is tomorrow evening, spend ten minutes today on the boring things that cause stress later. Find your booking confirmation and check the date, the number of guests and the pickup time. For the small-group Northern Lights Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5, the operator lists pickup at 19:00, or 18:30 from 25 October, outside Clarion Hotel The Edge, where you look for a black Mercedes. For the Private Northern Lights Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5, you chose your pickup location at checkout, so check that too.
Save the operator’s contact details on your phone. If you are late or lost, you will not want to search for them with cold fingers. And note the cancellation rule: a full refund more than 48 hours before, and a 100% charge inside 48 hours. If your tour is tomorrow, the free-cancellation window has closed, so the question is only how to make the best of the evening.
Still need a seat? Booking at short notice
Availability for tomorrow depends on the date and the season. Open the live calendar on the operator’s booking page and look at the next departures. If tomorrow is full, check the next two nights, and consider the private tour if your group is large enough to make it worthwhile. At NOK 15 000 per group it is not cheap for a couple, but for a family of four or more, or when the shared tour is full, it is a practical fallback.

To book, open the live calendar through the links on this page, choose your date, and type HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 into the promo-code field at checkout for 5% off. It takes only a few minutes.
Do not wait for a perfect forecast before booking. Forecasts shift, and the tour is designed to move to clearer sky. A booked seat on a mediocre-looking night often beats an empty hope on the best-looking one.
What to wear tomorrow
A winter suit is included, which solves the biggest problem. Under it, wear a thermal base layer, a warm mid layer, wool socks and a hat. Bring gloves you can use with a phone, and a thin liner glove for photos. Leave bulky coats at the hotel because the suit goes over your clothes and a heavy jacket makes it uncomfortable in the vehicle.
If you wear glasses, expect fog when you move between cold and warm. Contact lenses may feel dry in the wind. Little things like lip balm and a small scarf help more than you would think. Our wider winter packing advice is gathered in our Tromsø activities hub.
Tomorrow during the day: pace yourself
The tour lasts 5–8 hours, so your day should leave energy for a long night. Avoid a strenuous morning. A walk in Tromsø, a coffee, a museum, or a relaxed fjord outing earlier in the day is fine, but do not stack a six-hour excursion before a late night unless you are well rested.

If you want a daytime activity, the Ersfjord & Grøtfjord Scenic Fjord Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 is a 3–4 hour option at NOK 1 500 per person with a 10:00 pickup, which leaves the afternoon free for a rest. The Sommarøy & Kvaløya Scenic Fjord Tour5% off · HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 runs 5–6 hours and is better placed on another day.
Book it · 5% off with HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5

The tour includes a warm meal, snacks and hot drinks, so you do not need a big dinner. A light early meal with some protein and something warm is enough, with a full stomach avoided before a long drive. Drink water through the day, since cold air is dry, and go easy on alcohol, which makes you feel colder and sleepier.
If you have a food allergy or dietary need, tell the operator before the tour, not at the pickup. The menu is not published on the tour page, so a quick message is the safe way to ask.
Charge, pack and prepare your camera or phone
Charge your phone, spare battery and camera tonight. Cold drains batteries fast, so keep spares in an inside pocket close to your body. Clean your lens before leaving. If you plan to take aurora photos, practise holding your phone steady against something rather than in the air, and know where your night mode is. Tripod rules differ on shared tours, so ask the guide before setting one up.

Put a small bag together: phone, battery, lip balm, tissues, a spare hat and gloves. Everything else can stay at the hotel.
If the forecast looks cloudy
Cloud cover is the main thing that stops people seeing the lights, but the chase exists to deal with it. The operator says the route is prepared from the latest weather forecasts and the guides’ knowledge of the area, and the group may head inland or along the coast. That means a poor forecast in Tromsø does not automatically mean a poor night. We cover this in more depth in other posts on this site, and the short version is: go, stay positive, and be ready for a late return.
If your trip is long enough, book a second night on another date to improve your odds.
Tomorrow evening, step by step
Eat lightly, dress in layers, and be outside Clarion Hotel The Edge a few minutes early. Look for the black Mercedes. Introduce yourself to your guide, put on the suit if it is offered at the start, and settle in. Keep your phone warm and switch off the screen light when you reach a stop, so your eyes adapt to the dark.
To book, open the live calendar through the links on this page, choose your date, and type HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 into the promo-code field at checkout for 5% off. If you are reading this on the day itself, check live availability first.
The cancellation rule we know of is a full refund if you cancel more than 48 hours before departure, and a 100% charge inside 48 hours. Check the current terms on the booking page before you pay.
