The Eco Luxury Villa at Finca de Arrieta: Our Honest Guide to Lanzarote’s Converted Water-Tank Villa for Families of Six (With 5% Off)

A 200 m² single-level villa built from an old Canarian aljibe, with hardwood floors, a four-poster bed, a walled garden and a shared solar-heated pool, 300 metres from a calm golden beach. We went through the operator’s pages and the booking engine to work out who the Eco Luxury Villa suits, what it costs in winter, and where it is not the right pick.

Short answer

The Eco Luxury Villa5% off · code inside is the home we would point most families of four to six towards at Finca de Arrieta, the off-grid eco village in Arrieta on Lanzarote’s north-east coast. It is a detached 200 m² single-storey villa converted from a traditional water repository (an aljibe), with two bedrooms, a bath and a walk-in shower, a lounge day bed for the extra child, a private gated garden with a shaded dining hut, and access to the village’s shared solar-heated pool. Children 17 and under stay free at the Finca, so the quote depends on the dates rather than the head count: on 23 October 2026 the booking engine quoted €1,656 for 7 nights from 24 January 2027. If you want a private pool, look at the Eco Luxury Farmhouse5% off · code inside; for a smaller budget, the Eco Barn5% off · code inside or the Eco Garden Cottage5% off · code inside. We are Lanzarote Retreats’ affiliate partner: book directly on lanzaroteretreats.com and use code HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for stays until 18 December 2026 (Christmas and New Year excluded) or HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY275 for stays from January 2027 — 5% off either way.

What the Eco Luxury Villa Actually Is

Most of the 21 homes at Finca de Arrieta are cottages, yurts or small houses. The Eco Luxury Villa is the one that looks and feels like a proper villa. Lanzarote Retreats describes it as a classical aljibe, a water repository, that has been transformed into a house with wooden flooring and traditional stone walls, furnished with a mix of Moroccan and Indonesian pieces, and recently renovated with a strong commitment to sustainability. In plain terms: thick stone walls that stay cool in summer and cosy in winter, hardwood floors and a lot of character.

The headline numbers from the operator are 200 m² of interior space on a single level, two bedrooms, an en-suite bathroom plus a further shower room, a partially open-plan lounge and dining area with double patio doors, a custom hardwood-and-granite kitchen with an oven, grill, four-ring hob and fridge/freezer, and free fast wifi. Outside there is a private walled and gated garden with a shaded dining hut, a day bed, a hammock and a barbecue, plus access to the Finca’s shared pool. Because everything is on one level, it also works for grandparents or a toddler who has just discovered stairs.

One honest framing: we have not stayed here. We research Lanzarote Retreats’ homes from the operator’s own pages and booking engine and send readers who ask us where to stay, so everything below is what the operator says, with our judgement about who it suits.

Room by Room: Who Sleeps Where

The villa sleeps up to four adults plus two children or infants. The master bedroom has mountain views, antique furniture and a king-sized four-poster bed (180 cm), a built-in wardrobe, and an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, a bath and a WC. The second bedroom has wooden floors and hand-painted Chinese furniture. The lounge has six seats, a Moroccan coffee table and an Indonesian day bed that the operator says comfortably sleeps additional guests.

For a family that works out like this:

  • Two adults and two children: parents in the four-poster room, children in the second bedroom. Easy, with space to spare.
  • Two adults and up to four children or infants: the extra children sleep on the lounge day bed, which the operator says sleeps additional guests. Check the exact bed set-up with the reservations team when you book.
  • Two couples (or grandparents plus a family): two bedrooms and two bathrooms make it workable, with the day bed for a child.

The listing mentions a second shower room but does not say the second bedroom has its own en-suite, so if privacy between two couples matters, ask Lanzarote Retreats how the bathrooms are laid out before you pay the deposit.

The Garden, the Pool and the Village Around It

This is where the villa earns its price. The walled, gated garden is private, so small children can play without anyone watching the gate, and the shaded dining hut means breakfast and long lunches happen outdoors even when the sun is strong. There is a barbecue, a hammock and a day bed.

The pool is shared rather than private: the Finca’s solar-heated pool is 13 m × 2.5 m and the operator says it is open all year. It is a lap-and-splash pool, not a resort lagoon, and in winter it is the village’s one pool for everyone, so if a private pool is the point of your holiday, the Eco Luxury Farmhouse (with its own solar-heated pool) is the home to look at instead.

Around you is the rest of Finca de Arrieta: a play park, giant chess, ping-pong, donkeys, chickens and fresh eggs from the hen house, a honesty shop open 24/7, and a paella evening on Mondays subject to availability. A 300 m track leads down to Playa de la Garita, an 810 m golden-sand beach with a beach bar and restaurant, showers, a play park and generally calm water that the operator calls ideal for first-time surfing and body-boarding.

What Off-Grid Means in a Villa This Size

Finca de Arrieta runs on solar panels with a generator back-up. Lanzarote Retreats says you can use ordinary appliances as you would on the mains, but to conserve energy it does not fit dishwashers, televisions, electric kettles, electric water heaters, high-watt bulbs or irons. Hot water comes from a gas water heater in each home, and hairdryers are available on request rather than provided as standard.

For us that is a feature, not a flaw: it is a villa where the evening plan is a barbecue and a card game instead of a screen. But it is worth being clear with teenagers. You get free fast wifi, so phones work; you do not get a television. There is also no air conditioning and no heating. The operator says temperatures sit around 18–28 °C year-round and the stone walls do the work, with fans on request; the weather table the operator publishes shows January averaging 18 °C and February 18 °C. In practice that means a fleece for the evenings and a light waterproof in case of a shower.

What a Winter Week Costs: Real Quotes From the Booking Engine

Lanzarote Retreats has no fixed rate card: the price depends on dates. When we checked the booking engine on 23 October 2026, it quoted these totals for 7 nights for 2 adults. Children 17 and under go free at Finca de Arrieta, so adding children did not change the quote in our other Finca samples; treat the numbers as a dated snapshot and check the live calendar.

Dates (7 nights)Quoted totalPer night
24–31 January 2027€1,656about €237
7–14 February 2027€2,003about €286
7–14 March 2027€1,865about €266

Read it as: late January is the cheapest of our samples, and February is the dearest. That is for the whole villa, which sleeps up to six. The operator’s rules are the usual ones: a 30% non-refundable deposit at booking, balance 30 days before arrival, and a deposit that is forfeited if you cancel, so we would take out travel insurance.

Before 18 December 2026 the same booking engine can also price November and early-December weeks; ask for a quote for your dates, and remember that Christmas and New Year dates are excluded from the code that covers pre-18 December stays.

Eco Luxury Villa vs Farmhouse vs Barn vs Garden Cottage

Getting There and Getting Around

Finca de Arrieta is about 20 km from Arrecife airport. Lanzarote Retreats can arrange a private return transfer for Finca guests, and the package includes a complimentary 5-seater car for up to 7 days (7-seaters are extra; drivers must be 25+ with at least two years’ licence; request at least 48 hours before arrival). Child car seats are free on request. A bus stop sits on the main road by the Finca, so a car-free day is realistic, but for Timanfaya, the César Manrique sites and the island’s markets you will want wheels for at least part of the week.

From Helsinki the flight is roughly six hours and Lanzarote is two hours behind Finland in winter; from the UK it is about four hours and the same time zone. Check-in is from 16:00 and check-out by 10:00; self check-in works, and the Finca has an on-site team and a WhatsApp concierge.

Who Should Not Book It

We would steer you elsewhere in a few cases. If you want a private pool or a hot tub, book the Farmhouse or a villa in the south. If you want air conditioning, only Arrecife Sands has it, and the north coast in winter does not need it anyway. If you are a big group of eight or more, look at the Farmhouse, Casa Pino or Villa Palacio & Yurts. If you want a restaurant-and-nightlife holiday, Arrieta is a quiet fishing village with seafront fish restaurants and a pizzeria, not a resort. And if you need a television for the children, the Finca will be a culture shock, which some families find is the best part.

A 30% non-refundable deposit is due at booking and the balance 30 days before arrival. Cancelling forfeits the deposit, and inside 30 days 100% is retained, so the operator recommends travel insurance.

Our Honest Final Word

We have not slept in the Eco Luxury Villa, so we will not tell you what the four-poster feels like. What the operator’s pages and booking engine tell us is that it is the Finca’s best all-round family villa: 200 m² on one level, two bathrooms, a private garden, a beach 300 metres away, and a weekly price that does not grow with the number of children. The caveats are the ones that come with off-grid living: no television, no air conditioning, a shared pool and a fleece for the evenings.

If that sounds like your kind of week, book directly on lanzaroteretreats.com and use code HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY5 for stays until 18 December 2026 (Christmas and New Year excluded) or HUNGRYTRAVELFAMILY275 for stays from January 2027 — 5% off either way.
