You drive to Koman, the village at the dam end of the lake. You do not drive to the villas \u2014 nobody does. Instead:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Parking:<\/strong> the paid lots around Koman cost about \u20ac5 per day. They sit roughly two kilometres from the ferry dock, and the parking operators run minibus shuttles to the dock \u2014 you will not be hiking with your luggage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tickets and boats:<\/strong> at the ferry station you are assigned to a boat based on where you are going. It sounds chaotic; it works fine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The hosts make it easy:<\/strong> the owner \u2014 one of the two brothers who run the villas \u2014 messaged us in advance with exactly how to reach the boat, how to buy tickets and where to leave the car. That advance help took all the stress out of a genuinely unusual arrival.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From the boat drop-off, you walk a few hundred metres \u2014 call it one or two hundred \u2014 along a natural path through the greenery, and then the villas appear.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"s2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_ferry_ride_across_Komani_Lake\"><\/span>The ferry ride across Komani Lake<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The ride to the villas takes over an hour one way, and we want to be clear about something: <strong>this is not a transfer, it is an attraction<\/strong>. The lake narrows and bends between cliffs and green mountains, the water shifts colour with the light, and the whole landscape has a mysterious, closed-in drama that we have not seen anywhere else in Europe \u2014 and we say that as people who have driven most of Norway.<\/p>\n<p>We barely sat down. You do not get off the boat for the views because you do not need to \u2014 they come to you, continuously, for the entire hour. We believe the view from these villas is one of the best you can get anywhere on Komani Lake: water, cliffs and mountains, arranged like someone composed them.<\/p>\n<p>Living in a small wooden hut in this landscape has a particular magic.
