Not because the coffee itself is extraordinary in some global sense, but because the whole setup works: the stops come at the right intervals, the scenery around them justifies slowing down, and the waffle house tradition gives the whole thing a character that feels specifically Norwegian rather than generic motorway.<\/p>\n\n<p>From our home in Finnish Lapland we cross into Norway regularly, and every time we do we rediscover something we had forgotten: that the journey really is the destination, and the part of the journey that involves a heart-shaped waffle and a flat white with a fjord in the background is often the part you tell people about afterwards.<\/p>\n\n<p>Slow down.
